How to remove a stuck key?

If your battery is completely dead, or battery disconnected. The key, once in and turned would not come out for me. Once I charged up the battery I Was able to remove the key. You can also remove the small plug in the underside of the steering column. May not be a plug but just a circle so I used a small drill bit right in the middle of it. Very tough to see as there is only a small faint circle visible. Once removed it will expose a pin. i usually work blind and just push the small scew driver in the hole. Push the pin then the key will turn back to the full off position and can be removed.

2001 ford explorer 5.0 v8 how to replace PVC valve?

The milky residue you see on the oil cap is a common symptom of a bad PVC system.PCV Basics

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

All car engines have a PCV valve and it is located on top of the motor's valve cover. There is a vacuum line attached to it. It pulls out of the valve cover and if you shake it, you should hear a marble knocking inside it. If you shake it and don't hear anything, it's bad. It costs less than 5 bucks to replace.

Location
  • 4.0L is located in the valve cover near the brake booster
  • 5.0L is located behind the intake manifold (engine rear)

PVC Valve

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the oil separator hose from the PVC Valve.
  2. Remove the PVC Valve from the grommet in the crankcase.

Grasp the valve and gently remove it from the grommet in the passengers side valve cover. Remove the valve from the hose by carefully twisting it out.

  1. Inspect the grommet for deterioration.

To Install;

  1. If necessary, replace the crankcase grommet.
    • Install the hose.
  2. Install the PVC Valve.

What is the PCV valve and what does it do?

The blowby vapors that end up in an engine's crankcase contain moisture as well as combustion byproducts and unburned fuel vapors. The crankcase is sealed to prevent the escape of these gases into the atmosphere, but the vapors must be removed to prevent oil contamination that leads to sludge formation. The positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system siphons these vapors from the crankcase and routes them into the intake manifold so they can be reburned in the engine.

The main component in the PCV system is the PCV valve, which is usually located in the valve cover. A hose connects the PCV valve to the intake manifold. A second hose between the air cleaner and crankcase or other valve cover (V6 or V8 applications) provides fresh air to help flush the vapors out of the crankcase. Some engines have a separate air filter for the PCV breather hose located inside the air cleaner.

The PCV valve is a spring-loaded valve with a specific orifice size designed to restrict the amount of air that's siphoned from the crankcase into the intake manifold. This is necessary because air drawn through the valve from the crankcase has a leaning effect on the fuel mixture much the same as a vacuum leak. So air flow through the valve must be controlled within certain limits. At idle, air flow is reduced because little blowby is produced. When the engine is cruising and vacuum is high, airflow through the PCV valve is at a maximum to purge the blowby vapors from the crankcase.

It's important to note that PCV valves are sized for specific engine applications. The wrong PCV valve for an application can flow too much or too little air causing driveability problems. Varnish deposits can clog the valve, so replacement for preventative maintenance is recommended (every 50,000 miles usually).

Not all engines have PCV valves. Some (like Ford Escort, GM FWD cars with the Quad Four engine, etc.) ventilate the crankcase with a small breather hose and calibrated orifice. There is no spring-loaded PCV valve. On these applications, no maintenance is usually necessary.

How do I replace door handle on a 2006 ford explorer?

Recently broke exterior door handle (door froze) on my explorer.

I ordered the handle through dealership ($146) then painted the handle. To remove the door panel there are two snap on caps that must be removed first, one on the handle and one next to the latch. Pull off the cap/panels then remove screws plus one screw at very bottom of panel. To get the panel off you need to pull hard in out and upwards direction to get snaps off. There will be a cable that connects to your latch that can be remove with needle nose pliers. Also there is an electric cable with a snap connector. Push in the tab and pull the connector apart.

Cut off the foam backing to access the inside of the door. Remove both nuts holding on handle. Open yellow tab that is on the threaded rod with a pair of pliers (this piece hinges). Remove handle (you may want to remove rod first) replace with new handle and repeat steps in reverse.
