Replace EGR module...do it yourself....takes about 25 minutes

Go to a U-Haul dealer they have the wiring jig you'll need.

There will be a black box on the far left corner of the engine compartment, in front of the battery. Release three or four metal clips holding down the top, and lift the top off the box. The filter will be just underneath. Before installing the new filter, clean out any debris; leaves, maybe paper, grass, etc. that may be at the bottom of the box. Put the new filter in, secure the clips, and it's good to go.

You need to remove the panel that is in between the headlights. This can be done by opening the hood and removing the 4 bolts that hold it in. they are the top most bolts (10mm) in front of the radiator. For reference: one is basically underneath the hood release latch.

Once the 4 bolts are out, the panel can be completely removed. You may have to wiggle or rock it back and forth to get it out. It's a very snug fit. The filter housing has 2 clips on each side, these need to be removed. There is also a clamp that needs to be loosened (do not completely remove it). This can be done with a large Phillips screwdriver.

The easiest way I've found to remove the housing is to push it back toward the engine block until the front of it can pass by the bumper. Once this is off, the filters are right there and you can simply pick them up and replace them.

Put it all back together in the reverse order. Starting with the housing piece, circular part in first.

Two most common reasons are fouled oxygen sensor or fouled catalytic converter. There might or possibly be a tuning issue that can make those go bad much faster than normal... but if no codes are poping up it is 90% one of those. Change the oxy sensor and delete the dummy code light. If it stays off problem found. If not change the catalytic.

This could be one of several problems, my friend has the same year and his did the same thing. His problem was the alignment needed attention. as for what else it may be before asking a mechanic to look at that, possibly for a fee; would be to have the tires checked ( discount tire does it for free). Check them for uneven wear, correct tire pressure for all 4 tires, and have them checked for being "out of round" (tire may appear circular, but unless its machine checked it very well could be the problem). next would be to check the suspension, could have bad shock absorbers or even weak coil springs, or both. To check, go to either side (left or right front), then apply your hands on the fender above the wheel. Give it a good push and remove your hands. The car should come back up and stop with Very little wobble (hopefully no wobble), if it does bounce a few times or wobble for a second or 2, you may want to get the shocks replaced. A wise idea here is to go to the opposite side and repeat. If replacing (doing it yourself) do both at the same time, and very important here, check the top mounting holes for bolt size (my buddy had to have me drill him a new size for one side). last thing I could think of would then be the alignment, since the equipment is very expensive, take it to a repair shop like meinekke, or any place that you trust if you have a mechanic. cost for an alignment is typically $100.00 Hope this helps

The air filter housing is located to the right of the engine and to the left of the fuse/relay panel. Simply undo the clips located on the housing and remove the old air filter and replace it with the new one. It is recommended that the air filter be replaced every 30, 000 miles or 24 months, whichever comes first.

on the 4.2l it is on top of the egr valve. you have to buy the whole thing its about 170 bucks.

Which filter are you referring to? The enginge, cabin or pollen filter? The engine filter On driver side there is a big plastic box. Remove two screws from backside and pivot off. Remove old filter install new.

2. How are you reading code?

3. How did the Coil look when you changed plugs( very common problem)

From what you said i can assume the next place I would go is the coil.

I'd refer to the info panel on the driver's side door jamb, or I'd just ask my local tire dealer. On the side wall of the tire there is a bunch of numbers and letters usually looking like P195/60R15 (example only). Those numbers correspond to the tires tread and size.

I suspect the information in the "Related Question" below regarding Windstar doorlocks will apply to the Freestar - at least a good start...

This front system uses an orifice tube which is located between the firewall and the engine. Remove the wiper cowl to access hex fitting on the evaporator inlet line. The rear system uses an an expansion valve which is located behind the driver side interior trim panel in the rear of the cabin.

It's on the bottom of the motor, by the transmission case.
