the engine check light on ANY car means there is somthing wrong with the engine probably that it has overheated Yes, it can mean that your car is overheating, but it also can be one of many emmisions problems. Your best bet is either take it to a good mechanic, or buy a good book, such as a Haynes Manual for it, and it will explain what you need to check/replace. Had the same problem with my 96 Geo Metro........ I replaced the catalytic converter....... Real easy car to work on. Part was about $100 from www.rockauto.com heat up the bolts with some map gas and the bolts will come off

very easy. 4 bolts hold the cover down. They are around 4 inches long and have threads only at the end. (large space between top of cover and actual section it threads into).

There will likely be a few things bolted to the top of it, like a carburetor, ignition wire harness... Just unbolt them and move out of the way. Don't pull the bolts all the way out, the threads will damage the gaskets that seal the bolts.

The cover comes straight up. Be careful not to get any dirt into the exposed camshaft and rocker arms...

The gasket is u shaped and stuck onto the valve cover itself. Clean both surfaces and run a thin layer of oil or gasket sealer across the new gasket with your finger before you put the cover back on. Check the bolt gaskets as well (4 rubber washers set into the valve cover) Set it in place and hand thread the bolts into the header as much as you can before using a wrench. Careful not to cross thread, torque to about 10-15 lbs per foot. (basically hand tight and a quarter turn more. Don't over tighten or you'll break the bolt seals, or even possibly cause header damage.

You can never go wrong with changing the oil at 3,000 mile intervals. Especially if most of your driving is city stop and go traffic. Every car I've had over the years I've always changed it at 3,000 miles, including the filter. Promotes longer engine life in the long run.

The 1995 Geo Metro spark plug torque specification is 20 pounds. You should torque the spark plug intent pound intervals.

Check the dipstick tube o-ring. that's how I stopped my oil leak on my 1994 Geo Metro. I was having the same problem. The part only cost about .39 cents. Go to any hardware store to find it. Hope this helps

My advice. Forget this idea. Sell this car and purchase one that came with an Automatic. You will save yourself money and lots of headaches. This would be an expensive conversion. The only other option would be to find a donor car with all the necessary parts.

when the piston comes to top dead center or in full up position the valves must be closed if they are open the piston will hit the valve and bend it this usually happens from a valve timing issue by a slipped timing belt or chain. sometimes though this will happen if the valve sticks open from a bad valve spring

get manual from auto parts store will help with many things. one has to remove the crank pulley and timing cover on passanger side of engine. the crank end has a mark on it which should be strait up, and the rocker arm gear has a mark on it which sould be strait up too, at same time. manuals show and explain this.

The coolant drain plug on a Nissan Micra engine block is on the upper part of the block. It is under the intake manifold.

It's not too tough. a couple of multi-connector plugs need to be accessed from underneath. then there are several screws in the front and the actual speedo cable from the back. after you get everything loose it's a little tricky to get the whole assembly out and around the steering column, but it is negotiable. opposite the knob there is a horseshoe shaped steel wire spring that 'clips' the window crank onto the shaft... with a thin screwdriver or awl, you can push this clip off from the know side.
