Where are the fuses on a 1996 Geo Metro?

The standard small fuses that control the radio, instrument gauges, and other interior electrical components lie under the dash in the steering wheel area (left side). It may be out in the open or under a small square plastic trim piece which can be easily removed. The main engine fuses that control the fan and other large pieces lies inside the engine bay itself. I'm not too sure on a 96 but from memory they should be on the right side of the inner fender in a small square black box with a diagram on it.

How to change o2 sensor on a geo prizm?

The easiest way is to purchase an o2 socket from your locar parts store. Then you unplug the connector, put the socket on it and turn it counter clockwise to loosen it. Be sure to ask if the new one has anti-seize compound on it and if not, put some on it before installing it. That way if you ever have to do it again, it'll come out a lot easier.

Why is my Geo Metro knocking?

I had similar problem with a 96... it was an awful valve train rattle under load and high speed... got anew valve train at the junk yard and fixed it right up. I's normally caused by a bad lifter which is a small button in the rockers and very expensive if you don't know which one is bad. == == you need a valve adjustment, or you have piston slap caused by worn piston rings do you think it could also be caused by a bad rod or main bearing?

Yes, it could be a connecting rod, in which case it will be most noticeable at higher rpm's (2500 - 4500) and the engine is running free. It would be much less noticeable if the engine is under a load. If it is a main bearing it would be more of a 'growl' type of knock, and you would have very low oil pressure. The light would likely be lit when the engine is warm and idling.

What color wire does an oxygen sensor plug into on a 1991 Geo Metro?

They are blue, black and white. They can be found extending from the catalytic converter (the upstream O2 sensor) and possibly from a second source (the downstream sensor).

Why is your 94 geo metro burning oil even though the compression is good?

A defective EGR valve can cause your vehicle to smoke and consume oil. A bad PCV can cause oil to be sucked from the valve cover. Its so small but can easily be a quart a week.Change the PCV because there is no way to check it.You may also have a bad oil ring on one of your cylinders.Look for oil on a spark plug.If you dont fix it,your car is doomed! Answer. If you change that PCV valve, be sure to check out the hose that connects to it. Sometimes they will get clogged up with carbon and cause blowback through the PCV valve. I've never worked on a Metro, but on my truck, it is possible to check the PCV valve. All you have to do is take it out and shake it up and down. If you hear a rattle inside, it's working properly. If it doesn't rattle, that means the valve is gummed up and sticking either open or closed. Hope this helps.

Where is the vehicle speed sensor on 93 metro code 24?

there is a small electrical plug on the top of the transaxle; it is directly beside the mount for your clutch cable and near the end of the trans case. it should have 2 wires coming off of it.

Does a 1997 Geo Metro transmission have overdrive after 35 mph?

If you are speaking of the automatic transmission, no. The 1997 geo metro has a 3 speed automatic. At approximately 35 mph it will shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. This means that it will run at 3500 rpm when traveling at 55 mph. Most cars with overdrive will shift to the 4th gear (overdrive) at this point. A geo metro, which only has 3 gears, does not.

How much will a clutch kit for your geo metro cost?

Prices for clutches can be around a big price but for A Geo Metro, it would be around $110

How do you replace the thermostat on a Geo Metro?

Just trace the top radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. Where the hose stops is your thermostat housing. It should have 2 or 3 small bolts holding it to the engine. Remove the bolts and gently push on the housing neck and this should reveal the thermostat. Pull the old one out and replace it with a new one. Just make sure you drain a couple of quarts of anti-freeze out before you start.

Where is the blower motor resistor located in a 1997 geo metro hatchback 1 liter 3 cylinder without AC and How does one go about replacing it Heater only blows on high speed Thank you?

like before all resistors fof heating are on duct work of blower motor either under dash or on clow mounted to firewall.to replace buy one at dealer ship or ask to look at one. only two screw mount

How can you check that the radiator fan is working on a 1996 Geo Metro?

After driving and warming up your engine turn off your engine. After engine is off turn the key back to the on position and open the hood. The fan should still be running. Chances are if it isn't, a fuse is probably blown.

Will going from 12 inch tire to 13 inch affect acceleration My Geo Metro has stock 12 wheels and tires will going to 13 reduce acceleration and mpg?

You are not gaining 10% of rim. Just be sure your front tires do not rub turned all the way, either way. And you should have some improved gas milige. You speedometer will also be off as well.

What could be wrong on a 1992 Geo Metro when the 'check engine' light comes on?

Emissions problem. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Under the dash on the drivers side there is a fuse block and there is a empty spot in the block that has ridges around it. put a spare fuse in it and turn the key but dont start the car and watch the check engine light it will flash the codes. Like Blink----BlinkBlink, which is a code 12 which is a no trouble code.

Where does the transmission fluid go in a Geo Metro?

In the transmission. You pour in fluid the same place you check it. It goes out the leak. Presumably onto the ground. My 1992 and 93 Metro manual transmissions have a refill plug an inch or two aft of the drive-shaft to the driver's left front wheel. My 93 refill plug has a three eights square recess to insert a regular extension rod (NOT the type used for 1/4 or 1/2 inch drive sockets). The transmission fluid DRAIN plug on both the 92 and 93 has the same type 3/8ths square recess, to loosen or tighten it. The 92 refill plug has a head that can be turned with a 15/16ths socket (about 23mm, in metric). On the top of the transmission case, above the driver's side drive-shaft, some OTHER metro manual transmissions, INSTEAD have a screw-in, lawnmower/motorcycle type, dipstick/oil level check plug (these have a flat extension to loosen or tighten the plug "with your fingers"). To fill, just add 80 or 90 weight gear oil, screw and unscrew the plug to check the level on the dipstick, and repeat as necessary. On my 92 and 93 metros, I use a "turkey baster" syringe-type oil transfer pump. (A funnel, connected to a foot or so of small tubing might also work.) After about two and a half quarts of 80 or 90 weight oil is put in, it starts to flow back out of the filler hole, and it's full... without having to constantly check a dipstick. (The proper oil level is "even with the bottom of the filler plug hole".)

Is a 1996 Geo Metro 3 cylinder carbureted or fuel injected?

It is fuel injected. It may appear to be a carburetor but is in reality a throttle body fuel injection system with one injector.

How do you install a distributor in a geo metro?

The quick answer is...set motor on top dead center, put the distributer in place making sure the cross ridge of the shaft fits in the slot in the camshaft. That slot is slightly off center and the distributer will only go in one way. When you put it in place, if it doesn't go right in place without forcing it, turn the rotor 1/2 turn. Once in place, make sure the rotor points at #1 spark plug wire. Mr Geo Metro leehduncan@verizon.net

Where can you find a weatherstrips for 92 Geo Metro convertible?

I have just today spoken to a manufacturer of these weatherstrips. They are going to send me a smaple. The only way they offer it is by the roll. When I get the sample and verify the fit and quality I will post pricing. Brief summary....I am a 13 veteran counterman/parts manager for GM line of cars and trucks. Have sourced and researched these w/strips for over two weeks and finally resorted to the manufacturer. Who, informs me they have all of the original material on hand. UPDATE----- Not good news. I have yet to find anything that will reasonably replace the original weatherstrips.

The sample I received was a flop, not even close. I am told however, that the weatherstrips from a 99 Chrysler Sebring convertible will work. Ive yet to find a Sebring Convert. to try this one myself.
