Can anyone show me a 1997 GMC Jimmy engine diagram or explain to me the location of the coil pack?
Typically Chevrolet coil packs in the 90's are located on top of the distributor in the center. There is a cover in the middle of the distributor cap which is usually held on by 2 or 4 screws. (You should not have to remove the entire distributor cap to access it) Then the coil is held in place by either 2 screws, one on the center of each side or 4 screws, one in each corner. Then you just have to unplug the two wire clips on the front. Pay close attention when removing the coil, when you lift it out there will be a rubber pad underneath which will have a small bit that has a spring attached, it is called a carbon brush or a carbon bit or something like that but just be sure to remember how it is sitting in there. I believe the spring should point up but I can't remember if it sits above or below the rubber pad. When you install the new coil you may have to bend the connectors on the end of the positive and negative wires coming off of the coil pack. Some run straight in line and some run at a 90 degree angle to each other, but the new clips are always straight and if your connectors are set at a 90 degree angle you will have to bend the new clip. Just look at the connectors on the old coil pack and you can figure it whether you have to bend the new ones or not. I drew a diagram you can view at: http://s733.photobucket.com/albums/ww331/HandyD/

How do you start a flooded engine in a 1999 GMC Jimmy?
My 2001 Jimmy has some kind of intermittent starting problem -- it cranks and cranks and won't start and gets flooded when doing that. I took out a spark plug and it was wet enough to sling drops of gas on the ground. So I propped open the throttle butterfly with the handle of a screwdriver and left it open like that all morning. So after about 6 hours I came back and it started up. Not every cylinder dried up, because I'm sure some cylinders had both valves closed, but enough of them dried out to allow the engine to start. Weather was warm, 80-90 degrees, so your mileage may vary. If this were a cold climate I would probably have pulled out as many spark plugs as I could and dried them out. Spark plugs are a bear to get to though.
How do you fix the 4 wheel drive on a 2000 Jimmy Why do the lights on the dash not work for the 4WD?
their is an elctric 4wd module lcoted under your jimmy. if you do not occasionally use your 4wd, this motor will stick. if you listen under the truck while you try to put it in 4wd you might be able to here it clicking (tryin to switch). this problem is common in those vehicles because it is located under the truck were it it exposed to water, roadsalt, dirt ect. my guess is the part is about $200. if you can find it its rather easy to replace.
