No! Do not treat a sofa with Lysol to get rid of lice. Try using 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil and water. Use 10 Drops per 2oz of water in a spray bottle. Spray everywhere that has been possibly infected with lice or their nits (eggs). Let sit for a half hour to an hour, then vaccum. The more you vacuum, the more you cut down on nits and possible re-infestation. Also it is a good idea to take stuffed animals and decorative pillows and tightly bag them for 2-3 weeks or until lice are completely gone.
To get rid of lice on your head, here's something that worked for me and my family. Take 2 teaspoons of Tea Tree Oil and Mix with 7 Tablespoons of Olive Oil in a sqeezy bottle, similar to those used in dye kits. Saturate Hair, leave in overnight. Nits slide off easily with Olive Oil. Wash hair with baby shampoo then comb with nit comb. You can put conditioner in to make it easier to comb through hair if you want.
You can also just use Tea Tree Oil and Water too. Same idea as listed above for spraying the house. Only, saturate hair, put on shower cap, leave on for an hour. Saturate again, comb out nits/lice. Wash with baby shampoo or even a shampoo with tea tree and peppermint oils. Up to you.

you can use rubbing alcohol, olive oil, listerine, mayonaise. or if you want a faster remedy even try flat ironing your hair close to the scalp. this will kill lice eggs and live lice.. proven! ive done this myself.. kill them faster that way and try not to waste your time by just skimming the top layers.. try and go by parting the hair into sections and going as close to the scalp as possible.. the result is fried lice and a happy you! :)

The best solution - and not full of chemicals - is Desert Essence Therapeutic Treatment Shampoo - has tea tree oil, blue cypress and eucalyptus - buy it at a health food store. You first use it three consecutive days and then twice a week; my granddaughter used to get lice all of the time, but since we used this, no more problems. Plus, it does not smell too bad. Way more effective than those treatments from the pharmacy.
