into the tranny itself..mine 727 torqueflite..you should be able to see it easily..remember you will probably get fluid coming out while removing. i am replacing mine soon, it has been broken for some time now..shows 48,000 on my dj...probably close, but it s a drag guessing your mph around town.

On my CJ6 Jeep also with a inline 6 engine the firing order = 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4.

The metal panel between the hood and windshield is removed to service the wiper motor.

On my 79 CJ5 with a 304 V8 there is a adjusting screw on the side of thecarburetor (side that the throttle cable is on) where the throttle shaft goes in. You turn this in to increase engine speed. This should be the same on a CJ7. Of course this is providing the engine is tuned and running properly.

Note: This is not the two air mixture screws on the bottom of the carb. Don't move these unless you know what you are doing.

measure the center of one hole to the center of the opposite hole. that measurement is the second number of the bolt pattern. the first number simply how many bolts there are. So, 5 X 5 1/2" means there are 5 bolts and the distance from one bolt hole to the opposite bolt hole is 5 1/2"

GO to the WEBBER website. I will tell you I have a two barrel as my friend had. He replaced it with a webber number 34? He now has no trouble starting or off road like I do with my stock carb. He said there are three to choose from. Highway,combo, and off road. He got the the combo which I myself would buy if it wasn't 400.00 Britt

To add to the above, there is a Weber licensed Ford carb that was made by Holley. Believe its number is 5210. Progressive two barrel just like Weber. Venturi size 32 on one barrel, think 36 on the other. New rebuilds available from some of the national parts chains for under $100.

TDC means Total Dead Center. To bring your car to a TDC correctly, you pull off the number one plug and stuff your finger into the hole.

DJ's (Dispatcher postal jeep by AM-General)had hardtops and sliding doors those years didn't they? There were DJ's that were basically 2wd CJ-5's early on though. CJ-5 was redesigned in 1976. A 76 top will fit newer models, but not pre 76 if both are CJ-5 style jeeps. Early ones had a channel on the windshield frames for door flap, not on the 76 and newer which had bigger, more raked windshields.

What leaks? Check the hoses for holes. Make sure all the hoses are hooked up to the pump. Make sure the hoses are hooked to the spray nozzles and are tight. Make sure that there are no obstructions in the lines, creating excessive back pressure.

Go with a Weber or EMPI. I went with a EMPI($100 cheaper) and it made all the difference in the world. If you want to spend even more go with a TBI(throttle body injection) kit.

I recommend a Ford Motorcraft 2100 carb wit adapter plate. There are a number of responses to internet searches for "258 MC2100" that will guide you along, as well as a eBay vendor who sells an entire kit that is well recommended. It is comparable in the power upgrade you see in a Weber, but requires much less adjustment and less mechanic-rade knowledge to get tuned. The original carb is notorious for being problematic, especially this many years later, even when rebuilt.

NOTE: check local laws for modifying original equipment. Even upgrades that are better for the environment may not pass inspection if not stock OEM parts.

JEEPS WERE ONLY MADE PRIOR TO 1987! There is now a disturbing looking
vehicle claiming to be a "Jeep" but after it is unmasked is actually a Dodge! If
AMC or the govt. didn't make it. IT'S NOT A JEEP, I DON'T CARE WHAT SHAPE
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE! There is a very simple phrase I use to help those out
there comprehending reality and it goes like this. If it's not a CJ, it's not a Jeep!"
