You can get your Kia Rio brakes fixed at Midas if you live in Boston. I'm not a local or anything but I did some searching for the answer to this question and that seems to be the best place to do it.

Check all fuses (key on--engine off) in fuse box under dash and in the relay/fuse box under the hood. Check the cable from the cruise module to the throttle body. Check plug connector at cruise module. Other than these few checks it's a dealer repair item.

take the plastic cover off the top of the engine 10mil socket 4 nuts hold it on when that is done go to the left side of the motor you,ll see the top cover of the timing belt 10mill socket will take the nuts off there are 4 of them take them off and you can see the timing belt and the twin cam sprockets you should be able to see if any wear is on the teeth and you can see if the belt is going bad dont try to take the bottom cover off its more work than you need to do you should be able to inspect what you need to with just the top cover off if it looks bad take to someone you trust this is alot of work to change the belt you have to unbolt the engine to change the belt

I could not post a picture. Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. 2 bolts hold the "goose neck" that the hose fastens to onto the engine. The thermostat is accessed by removing the 2 bolts and taking the goose neck (thermostat cover) off. The thermostat is easy to replace....make sure the spring on the thermostat faces into the engine. Use a new gasket and be sure the surfaces are clean when you reassemble it. Do not operate the vehicle without the thermostat in place, it keeps the engine at the correct temperature.

To check the thermostat place it in a pan of water and heat it up:

From behind the front bumper locate the assembly grasp the plug disconnecting it them twist the bulb socket counter clockwise (when looking at the back of the housing, they are usually pretty snug.

All Kia engines that use timing belts must be replaced at 60,000 miles. The timing belts they use have no leeway. I sell engines, and get calls for Kia engines all the time, simply because someone was cheap and didn't replace. Kia belts WILL pop betwen 61k and 65k.

As someone who owns a 2004 Kia Rio, I can confirm the above answer. I was told by the dealership that it needs to be done every 60,000 miles and that if it goes out, it takes the engine with it and will need to be replaced. Well, I listened to my father who thought these cars are like American cars when it comes to the timing belt. WRONG!!! I let it go 10,000 miles past and I'm telling you....at 70,000 the belt went and so did the engine! It cost me almost $4000 to put another engine in it when it would've cost only about 10% of that to just replace the timing belt. LESSON LEARNED! I'm getting it changed 10,000 miles early next time!

You have a 100,000 mile drive train warranty. I would replace the timing belt at 98,000 miles or for sure prior to 100,000 miles. My Kia Rio timing belt just went at 80,000 miles so I would really think about changing it around 80,000 miles. Mine went while I was driving it with absolutely NO warning and destroyed the engine.
