How do you program the remote key fob on a 2008 Mazda Tribute with remote start?
Mazda procedures vary by make and model - To program a key you must have 2 working keys otherwise it must be done by a dealer or locksmith. Remotes require one working key and procedures can be found in owners manuals which you can download from the Mazda site.
Here are some notes from the web:
NOTE: There is nearly ALWAYS separate programming for keys & remotes, even if they are one unit. One Exception is newer Chrysler all in one units which are programmed as one unit. These can not be self programmed.
All SMART keyless for remotes - Nissan - Lexus - Toyota - Hyundai - All can NOT be self programmed.
Audi - Nearly All require special equipment for programming for keys & remotes.
BMW - Hit and miss on programming. The keys can NOT be self programmed.
Buicks - Erratic. La Crosse - NO Onboard self Programming Available
Cadillac - Most from 1998 to 2000 require special equipment for programming -
Except Escalade which can be self done. ALL CTS - NO self Programming
Dodge & Chrysler Products - Many require one existing & working remote to program additional units.
If you have no working unit, then special equipment is required to get these done.
There is no "Other" programming available to help you if you have NO existing remote.
Chrysler Crossfire - can NOT be self done - key or remote.
1997 1998 1999 Dakota & Durango - No programming Available.
Dodge Charger - NO self programabilty on board.
All Chrysler combo units, meaning key and remote in one, can NOT be self programmed.
Ford - Nearly ALL KEY programming requires 2 working keys. If you have just one key, You will NOT be able to program additional keys on your own. Nearly ALL Ford Remotes CAN be self programmed. Fords are generally the easiest of all to program.
GM - HHR, Colorado, Cobalt, SSR, Uplander, Canyon, and 2001 & newer Malibu & Malibu Max. These require special equipment for programming. Circle Plus Keys CAN be self programmed.
Some GM Products have a split year whereby part a year may be programmable,
and part may not. There can also be two or more different remotes for some models in the same year.
Hummer H3 2006 and newer
Honda Ridgeline - NO Self Programming
Hyundai Tiburon - All Years require special equipment for programming.
Hyundai Elantra - 2006 and Newer are not self programmable.
Tucson - NO On Board Programming
Jaguar - Most newer vehicles require special equipment for programming. Model S definitely can NOT be self programmed.
Jeep - Grand Cherokees from 1997 to Present require special equipment for programming Cherokees from 1997 to 2001 require special equipment for programming
Land Rover - Nearly ALL require special equipment for programming
Lincoln - LS Model - Some years may require special equipment for programming
We definitely DO have 2003 to 2006 AVAILABLE for self programming.
Mercedes Benz - Some require special equipment for programming for keys & remotes. Many MB dealers are uncooperative & will give you a gigantic run around, and tales abound. We know for a fact that many can be done.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK !
Oldsmobile : 2000 & Up Aurora NO Self programming
Pontiac - G5, G6, 2001 Grand Am & later, Grand Prix 2004 & Later, 2006 & Later Montana Pontiac Solstice - NO On Board Programming
Saab - All Years require special equipment for programming for keys & remotes
Toyota - Prius Silver Logo Smart unit is NOT self programmable.
Volvo - All except early 850, require special equipment for programming
Another case of a lot of hogwash flying around. Some need a code, others DO NOT.
However, some dealers will tell you differently as they do not want to let you off cheap.

How do you change brakes on 2005 Mazda 6?
This is an easy procedure to perform. Front disk brakes first. I found it faster to replace the front rotors with new OEM rotors purchased from AutoZone (Save the old rotors to be resurfaced later for next time). Also purchased ceramic pads from AutoZone. The rear rotors I had to purchase from NAPA Auto parts because AutoZone does not stock them. But purchased rear pads from AutoZone. Back to the procedure; Loosen front wheel lug nuts. Jack up wheel (be sure to use jack stands for safety). remove wheel. Use 3/8 ratchet and socket to remove caliper slide bolts. Unfortunately the brake line is too short to "flip out" the caliper and pads. Therefore it is necessary to remove the caliper brake mounting bolts (two) and remove the whole assembly. Set the assembly on the suspension control arm to make the assembly easy to work on. Remove the old pads. This time may be a good time to retract the caliper piston. Use a large adjustable "C" clamp and carefully insert a flat wrench between the "C" clamp and piston (to protect the piston) and screw the "C" clamp until the piston is retracted flush with the caliper. REMOVE THE ROTOR: There are two flat head "Phillips" screws that must be removed that hold the rotor to the spindle. Next: Use a 6mm metric bolt for a "Jack screw" in the 6mm hole provided to remove the tight rotor on the spindle. Clean off any dust and loose dirt and rust. Install the new rotor (degrease it with gasoline first). Install and tighten the two flat head screws. Carefully install the caliper and new pads (don't forget the shims on the new pads). Reinstall the bolts and tighten them. Replace the wheel and nuts. lower wheel and tighten lug nuts. REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS: Jack rear wheel (use jack stands for safety). Remove wheel. Remove brake caliper. Remove pads. Remove caliper mount (two bolts). Remove rotor as done in the front (it is necessary to hold the spindle from turning. Do this by jamming a breaker bar between the lug studs when loosening the flat head screws). Retracting the piston is done differently due to the mechanical emergency brake attachment. Look at the piston. Note the dimples that look like an hour glass on the piston. Use a stout pair of long nosed pliers and turn the piston clockwise. Screw it down until it is flush with the caliper. use reverse procedure to reinstall everything. Pump the brakes up before driving off. That's it! You're all done.
Most bulbs have dual functions. Take the bulb out and look at it. It should have two springs inside. and if one of the springs are broken replace the bulb.
What size rear wiper blade do you need for a 2001 to 2009 Mazda tribute?

Why does my Mazda tribute 2003 dash brake light stay on?
please answer this question - i have the same problem! Thanks
Where is the PCV valve located on a 2003 Mazda Tribute?
Unfortunately,, the Mazda engineers located the PCV valve on the 3.0L engines under the intake manifold--essentially right under the throttle body. You can't see it until you pull the upper intake manifold off. I would definitely change out the PCV valve if you are replacing the spark plugs since the manifold has to come off to get to the back 3 spark plugs. A big hint here,, the pcv valve has to be turned 90degrees to the left to get it out of the housing.. a 7/8" 12 point deep socket seems to work. Look at your new pcv valve and you will see what I mean. Once you finally feed in the new pcv valve,, it must be turned 90degrees to the right to get it onto place. A 12" set of needle nose pliers might help also to get the hose off the pcv valve.

What size wipers blades are on a 2009 Mazda tribute?
The 2009 Mazda Tribute takes 20" wiper blades on both sides front and a fairly specialized 12" rear wiper that is difficult to find in the stores. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
How do you replace spark plugs on a Mazda Tribute 2001?
Hi, Perhaps I can answer part of the Question with the 3Litre V6(front cylinders only) Remove the plastic engine cover by undoing the 3 securing nuts, this will expose the spark plug leads and extension caps, disconnect the spark plug lead by pressing the small plastic plate where the lead enters and slide it out, undo the small cap retaining bolt and remove the lead extension. The plug is located at the bottom of the hole Gently remove using correct socket and extension bar and replace as neccessary. I cannot help with the rear cylinder plugs looks like the intake manifild would have to be removed to get to them Lew
Probably that's true. My wife just had the plugs changed at a Roseville, Calif. Mazda dealer (was suggested as part of 100Kmi servicing) and was surprised that the bill for plug change only was $451 (on March 24, 2009). Was $6 per plug, $6 per gasket, and $378 for the labor. Must be a heck of a job!!!!
Sam I just completed replacing the plugs and boots in a 2004 Tribute 3.0. I removed the intake cover - actually pretty easy. the challenge is in determining what else needs to be loosened / disconnected. I disconnected two wiring blocks on the back left, 3 hoses on the back, 2 black screws on component on the back right, 2 silver screws on a component on the back right and another hose on the right. At that point, I could move the intake so that I could access the back 3 plugs and boots. You will need a couple of socket extensions - I used a 6 and 10 in. This was the first time working on the truck and it took me 2 hours. It is doable with some patience and the right tools. btw - you should use anti-sieze on the plugs and dialectric grease on the boots. Good Luck. Rick
How do you slimjim Mazda tribute lock?
I locked the keys in a 2006 Mazda Tribute. Can you use a sim jim to open the door?
How do you remove the inside passenger door panel of a 2002 Mazda Tribute and fix the broken lock?
To remove the panel: there are several screws placed around the outer edge of the panel that need to be removed. there are also two in the handle area (one is down in the little cubby just below the handle, the other is under the little circle-remove from circle-in the little indent the below the handle. once all the screws are out, there are now several locks around the inside of the panel that need to be unlocked. they are just little things poking out of the panel that snap into the holes in the door frame. you just need to find those and pull with some force to pop the hooks out. it may seem like you are going to break the panel, but it takes a lot of force to unhook these. then, if there are speakers in the door, they panel will be connected to the frame by wires for the speakers. i did not disconnect these, just propped the panel so that the cords were not being pulled on.
to prelace lock: i can't remember if there are screws or if the lock pops out, but do one of those. then put the new lock in (which will actually be the whole handle since they are one piece) and either replace the screws or pop the handle back in.
then to replace the panel, realign the hooks and pop them back into place, then replace all the screws.
this is definitely not as hard as it sounds
Our Tribute is doing the same. Anyone help?
It can be the sensor or have the cap checked out.
The caps in these go bad. You can replace the cap/container (sold as one unit), or try putting in approximately 1 qt of coolant above the full line (sometimes this works).
the floating ball sinks and the sensor goes on to make the light come on there ios a recall for this bring it to your Mazda dealer
Where is the horn located in a Mazda Tribute and how do you replace it?
Mine went bad, as well. I bought an Ah-ooga horn to put in. I finally located the horn, but am scratching my head over replacing it. Basically, it's just behind and below the left headlight (from the driver's seat), in the bumper cavity. It looks like quite a bit of stuff will have to be removed just to get to it. Not sure I want to tackle it.
What can I do when the 2003 Mazda Tribute starts but the motor kills what's wrong?
There is a butterfly valve for the idle air intake. Buy a can of cleaner for this valve from the local auto store, give it a spray, and the motor will probably keep running.
Where is the starter located on a 2002 Mazda Tribute?
Remove the air filter cover and hose for a clear view of the starter on driver side rear of the motor. Pay close attention to the replacment as some toolings are slightly different and will not slide forward far enough for the guide pins to drop inplace. this minor tooling error cost me three hours of stress not noticing the tooling error. once it was ground out the starter slid in perfect in about 15 minutes. good luck
How do you change the clock in a Mazda tribute from military to standard time?
