How do I reset the check engine light on a 2003 Mazda Tribute?

I don't believe you (as an operator) can "reset" the check engine light. A mechanic can probably reset it using the port that actually draws the code which caused the failure. When my check engine light came on, I did what the owners manual indicated and just tried a few more tanks of gas (manual indicated that a bad tank of gas might be the problem, or the gas cap might not be installed correctly). After a tank and a half, light went out and hasn't been back on since.

I have a 2002 Mazda tribute when you turn left it makes a rubbing noise anyone know what it is?

Chances are that your right inner wheel well is rubbing against the tire like it did with my daughters Tribute. Did you have a slight fender bender on your left front bumper? The fenders are plastic and will pop back out and will thereby "fix" your rubbing noise. Check both wheel wells, as well.

How do you change the oil in a 2006 Mazda tribute?

Usually if you go to an auto care place they can do it for you which is much easier than doing it yourself where i live i got tires rotated and an oil change for thirty dollars

How do you change the light bulb for the odometer LCD panel the rest of the panel lights are ok?

I'm assuming that the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute will be basically the same process since the vehiciles as practically the same. Hope this helps. Project: Replace dashlight behind odometer (PRNDL) light. 2001 Ford Escape.

Time: 10 to 30 min.

Tools: Nut Driver 7mm or (small 7mm socket, socket wrench and small extension)

Cost: $1.50 to $4.00 (cost varies due to location - or so I was told, mine was $4.00)

Screws to remove: only 6 on the 2001, all the same headsize, threadsize and length)

1. Remove two 7mm hex screws on display panel cover (top, underneith)

2. Put on parking brake, engage key (do not start), move PRNDL lever to L to get out of way.

3. Pull the bottom part of display cover straight toward you (there are 2 clips, one on either side of the steering wheel behind the display assembly cover that will snap free - takes a little force - Do one side at a time) Remove and set aside. This reveals the four display unit screws.

4. Remove the four 7mm screws on the actual display panel. (fyi: all screws in this project are the same headsize, threadsize, and length)

4. Tilt top of display panel toward you and remove the three top connectors (they come out easily and are in a cable harness so you can't put them back wrong) You will need to squeeze the middle gently, unlocking connector and pull)

5. Pull out display - which includes "glass" covering - this never gets removed! (adjust steering wheel to lowest position if needed)

6. On the rear of the panel you will see several (little grey) knobs. Find the one right behind the odometer and using a pliers, twist counter clockwise 1/4 turn and remove. The little light bulb is encased in these little knobs and is included as a one-piece replacement for the $1.50 to $4 bucks.

7. Replace bulb assembly by inserting the bulb and turning clockwise 1/4 turn.

8. Assemble following reverse instruction of above.

* This all sounds a lot more complex than it actually is. These steps each only take a minute or so. The most difficult part for me was pulling out the display assembly cover. Took me a few minutes to figure out that there were clips on either side of the base of the display cover and what pressure was needed to pull them free. (it does take a little effort at the base of the display to pull free)

All in all this took me about 15 minutes to remove and about 10 minutes to replace, but I had to find socket size, snap locations of cover, etc etc....

Please feel free to cut and paste this article to any other boards with the same question. I hate to see people getting "ripped off" for a simple 4 dollar job anyone can do.

Where is the cabin air filter located on 2002 Mazda Tribute?

On the passenger side under the hood next to the fire wall (near the back of the glove box) under the cover plate and rain shield.

How do you remove the rear brake drums from a Toyota Tercel?

There are two types. If there are two scxrew holes in the face of the drum, run the appropriate sized screw into them and force the drum away from the axel. The newer ones require you to remove the nut and axel bearing, then it comes off easily.

Where is the drain plug on the automatic transmission of a Mazda Tribute?

I copied this answer from http://forums.mazdaworld.org/index.php?showtopic=12067, :

Everything's pretty much accessible, however I'm not sure about a fill "plug". When I had to put tranny fluid in mine, I used the dipstick tube and filled it that way (my mechanic said that was fine). I went out and took a picture of the tranny drain plug location. Hope this helps. It's closer to the drivers side than the passenger side (might be hard to tell from the pic).

Is a 2005 maxda tribute a good car?

Don't do it!!!! I have a 2003 Tribute...nothing but problems. Parts are expensive, labor is almost impossible. I absolutely hate it!! And it's very uncomfortable.

How many oxygen sensors does Mazda Tribute 2002 have What tool do you need to use to get the fuel filter off the hose and what tool can you use to plug the hose to stop the gasoline from the tank?

improved answer...Re: O2 sensor... depends if 4 or 6 cyl= 2 or 4... there will be one BEFORE the converter AND one AFTER... We have a 2001 3.0 V6 & it has 4... Common codes are P0420 & P0430... We had a P0430 which= downstream (after converter) Bank 2 oxygen sensor... (Bank 1= firewall side, Bank 2= radiator side)... Replaced O2 & made around 100 miles before light came back on...P0430 code again= these codes are really converter codes, O2 is performing correctly reading converter not operating as designed... The bite on this downstream code is this converter is built into the exhaust manifold...best price for part so far is $450... will try boneyard this weekend... AnswerAs I have been told by my local auto parts guy, there are 2 oxygen sensors in a 2002 Tribute. One is on the exhaust manifold, and the other is near the catalytic converter.

As far as the fuel filter goes, they're pretty easy to replace. There's a plastic clip that can be removed with a small, flat-head screwdriver, and a bolt that loosens the clamp that holds the filter in place. Don't worry about gas leaking from the tank, as long as the car isn't running, the fuel pump won't pull the gas if there's no power. There might be a little in the filter, but not much.

You will want to disconnect the battery cables before doing these repairs.

What kind - type of transmission fluid do you use in a Taurus - Sable?

AnswerFor fluid recommendation, refer to the Owners ManualAND the Ford Technical Service Bulletin - TSB linked below.

For all model years Taurus / Sable, the TSB basically states that Mercon V is now the specified transmission fluid.

What is the problem with a Mazda protege 1996 if it gets stuck in park?

Is the car facing uphill? If it is its a good idea for a few people to push the car from behind while another person applying the brakes and taking it out of "park". You might have also accelerated too much into a parking bumper (against your front tires) making it much more difficult to take the car out of park. That's happened to me before and I've learned not to go all the way into a parking space to the point that you hit the bumper and then lock the car in by quickly placing it on park (for example, when you're in a hurry) In that event again try to push the car forward, apply the brakes and then try to get it out of park. You may have blown a fuse. That happened to me in my 98 Ford Escort. It kept blowing because there was a short. There's a short term solution which is to take off a little, very little tab next to the shift lever on that faceplate. Stick a screwdriver or anything that will fit in there and push down. While pushing you will be able to move the lever out of Park.
