How do you compress the rear calipers on a 2001 Mazda Protege?

On the back of the brake assembly there is a screw which doesnt hold anything. you remove it and you will see a hole and a washer on the screw (dont loose it :-) i almost did ).

then you need metric HEX wrench. inside there is a screw which you have to unscrew approx 5 turns (this screw controlls hand brake).

now you can easy compress the caliper.

when you are done with both sides, pump the brakes couple of times

now take the hex wrench again and turn the HEX screw in until tight. When tight, now back of 1/8 of the turn !! (very important)

now test your hand brake, if ok put the cover screw back on again, if not play little with the hex screw. Sometimes you have to back it of 1/4 turn, sometimes only 1/16.

thats all

(my eng is not so good to explain more clearly but you should have no problems)

What is the difference between a teves caliper and akebono caliper?

How do you open stuck brake calipers?

Get a brake pad spreader from a local auto parts place. I'm not sure of the exact name, but it is not expensive and the staff should know what your talking about. Once the caliper is loosened from the rotor and you have taken the old pads out, place one of the old pads against the caliper piston(s). Position the spreader in the spot where the other pad would go and begin twisting the screw on the spreader until the piston pushes back into position. Be careful not to push back too far. Check frequently for a snug fit with the new pads in place. Otherwise, you may have to bleed the brake lines. Good luck!

What measuring system was used in Greece in 490 BC?

There would not have been a regularized system at that time. People would have used natural measurements such as the hand span, the foot (literally the length of a person's foot), the pace, the cubit (the length from the elbow to the fingertips). Naturally all of these would have varied from person to person but they were good enough to get on with.
