How do you get upper bolt on starter out on a 1999 grand marquis?

If the car is on a hoist it is easier. With the car on jack stands and you on your back, very, very hard. You need small hands, or send the car off to someone with a hoist.

What would cause your 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis steering to wonder or be loose?

(Licenced Technician) -- Loose steering / wander can be caused by almost anything; bad alignment to worn steering linkage to bad balljoints to broken springs, worn steering gear, incorrect tire pressure (too high or too low), worn / mismatched tires, even wear in the steering column can cause this. In extreme cases, I have seen vehicles that would not drive properly, even with a front end that was 100% and an alignment that was all in spec. It turned out the vehicle's frame was still damaged after an accident. I would strongly recommend getting this professionally checked; a 1994 GM likely still has original (read: non-greaseable) front end joints and are likely getting play in them. .

Is there a fuse or fusible link in a 1988 Grand Marquis 50 for the cruise control?

@150K, there is a Strong chance that you have low oil pressure. As such, there is a electronic oil pressure sending unit on the lower front right side of the block. Unplug it for a few seconds. If your check engine light goes away, theres your problem. I personally would hook up a $17 manual oil pressure guage just to be safe. As for the cruise controll problem, this is a common problem. just outside of the transmission, there is an electrical attachment to a vehicle speed sensor. Check both the wires leading into it and the connctions at the sensor itself. Replace at your descretion. As for the o2 sensor, it is possible, but not likely. o2 sensors will rarely set of a trouble code on an EFI motor unless you have a cylinder not firing.

Removal and Replacement Instructions

(steps 1-10 of 20)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the seat switch/door lock control panel by gently prying starting at the front of the panel (see picture below). The panel has clips at the front and rear of the assembly that simply snap into the door panel. Be careful not to break the the clips.
  1. Un-plug all the connectors from the bottom of the the switch panel. Some models have a screw securing the wiring harness to the connector (usually only on the passenger side). You'll need to remove these screws to in order to un-plug the connector.
  1. Remove the retaining screw found behind the switch control panel (just under the door handle - see picture above).
  2. Remove the retaining screw from the bottom edge of the door panel (see first picture above for location). Some older models also have retaining screws at the upper-right portion of the door panel and in the map pockets. If your car does, remove those as well.
  3. Remove the screw covers from each of the door pulls (if so equipped). If you use a screw driver to remove these covers be careful not to damage them. Remove the screws securing the door pull.
  4. Lift up the door panel and remove. Pull the door panel away from the door slightly and reach behind the door panel to disconnect the courtesy light connector (if so equipped - see picture below).
  1. Remove the four (4) mounting screws for the door speaker (see picture below).
  1. Remove the speaker and un-plug the speaker connector.

Why would a 1995 grand marquis no shift out of park?

Here is a handy trick to bypass that problem. Once running, turn the key slightly pass the start position. You don't have to go so far as to here your starter grinding. As you are doing this you should be trying to shift out of park. Sorry I can't guide your fix.

What were some of your things about your last job that you found most difficult to do?

This is a tricky interview question. You don't want to appear that there is anything you can't do. Put a positive spin on it like, 'I found it hard not to get too involved with the customers.' or 'I found it difficult to not think about work at home.' These are neutral statements that won't slant the interview negatively.

How do you reset the fuel pump on a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?

As on many cars these days, we often can be "bumped" in the rear while parked or otherwise and this can shut down the fuel system temporarily. Open your trunk lid and on the left side(fender area) there is a box or compartment cover. Just look around for it, its there... Inside there is a reset button... just press it and your vehicle should restart. Anything beyond this may r4equire the assistance of a mechanic..blah, blah...

How do you replace a LCM in a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Remove the black plastic piece that holds the courtesy light under the dash. There are 2 screws that hold the LCM to the bracket. The LCM is just above and in front the diagnostic Data Link for those who want to know. You can reach up and press the wiring harness connector clips and pull the connectors to the front of the car. Then release the plastic latch on the underside of he LCM.

Move the LCM forward and turn it up and sideways and it will clear everything. It is tight, but it will clear. I have changed about 5 of these this way, all on 2003 MM and CV's.

It seems 03's lose the headlight relay and make the headlights cycle on/off when it gets hot outside or the heater is on full blast (at least out here in the desert). Good luck.

How do you replace key switch cylinder on a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Turn the switch to on, then under the steering column cover below the switch is a hole. You push a pin in to release the switch. You'll have to fish around to get the spot where the pin is. Or take the bottom cover off to see it better.
