What is all wheel drive on 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?
On a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer :
All Wheel Drive ( AWD ) has engine power going to all 4 wheels , all the time ,
and doesn't require any driver input
The owners manual shows 10.3 quarts , but that is for the entire system : Transmission , torque converter , lines , cooler etc. My Haynes Ford Explorer repair manual shows the 5 quarts for the 4R70W transmission with the 5.0 L ( 302 cubic inch V8 ) and ( 4 quarts for the 5R55E automatic transmission ) to drain and refill the automatic transmission pan , but you actually add slowly and use the dipstick to determine the transmission fluid level from what I understand
1998 Mercury Mountaineer check engine light?
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.
Where can you find a diagram for the fuse box on a 2000 Mountaineer?
A cheaper and more effective answer is to go to the Ford / Mercury website and download the PDF owners manual. I own a 2000 Merc Mountie and the file was about 2.3 mb which took about a minute worth of downloading and abracadabra the information is there. Since you're already at your computer, you're halfway there. :> Go to Ebay and purchase an original owners manual for less than 10 bucks. The book will have diagrams on all your fuses. I just recently went through the same thing.

Usually it is near the left kick panel behind the fuse box. Sometimes it is mounted on the right side of the vehicle.
On the drivers door there is a WINDOW LOCK rocker switch ( goes left and right )
If it has been shifted to the left only the driver can open or close the power windows
What motor oil do you put in a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?
Motor oil type shold be chosen based on where you live not the type of car you drive. If by type you are refering to grade of oil. If by type you mean brand then it does not matter as long as it has an SAE approved symbol all motor oils are the same per grade. Addatives in motor oil make them different not the brand.
How do you replace the rear back signal lights on a mercury mountaineer 2005?
2005 Mercury Mountaineer turn signal light bulb replacement: Purchase the correct replacement turn signal light bulb(s) first, before disassembling the vehicle. See sources and related links below for replacement bulb information. Then consult your owner's manual for the turn signal light bulb replacement procedure. As simple as it sounds, the owner's manual is the best place to start for bulb replacement instructions and illustrations. You may want to consider replacing both left and right at the same time in order to keep brightness and color equal (optional).
How do you chance the starter on a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer?
Wow! That's a big question, but here goes: 1. Raise the vehicle so you can safely get underneath. The starter is typically located under the engine near the transmission mating surface. DON'T RELY ON A CHEAP JACK! Use drive on ramps or jack stands safely positioned on the frame, and lock the parking brake AND chock the rear wheels to keep it from rolling. 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery to remove voltage from the system. Don't want to arc yourself to the frame when you disconnect the cables from the starter! 3. Locate the starter motor and remove the nut that holds the starter cable in place, remove the cable and position it out of the way. 4. Disconnect the solenoid connector...the smaller of the two wires going to the starter. 5. Remove the bolts holding the starter to the mount...usually 2, sometimes 3. 6. Remove the old starter. 7. Carefully compare the old to the new...make sure they match. 8. Install the new starter...thread all the mounting bolts in hand tight, then torque them to the specification listed in the service manual. 9. Reconnect the two wires you removed earlier. 10. Reconnect the battery. That should do it! Hope this helps...

Where are the spark plugs for a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer located?
I just replaced the six spark plugs on my 2003 Mercury Mountaineer 4.6L V6 SOHC. with 95K miles on the original plugs. There are 6 plugs in total (3 on each side of the engine). The ones on the driver side are easily accessible. Just twist & pull off the plug wire (some were on real tight and required considerable pull),and you will see the spark plug.
The 3 on the passenger side could only be accessed by removing the whatyamacall it (the big black air duct that goes between the air filter and the throttle body).
I purchased the 6 OEM spark plugs (Motorcraft Platinum) from Autozone for like $24 for all 6.
The original plugs were gapped to like 60-70mm. The specs call for the plugs to be gapped between 52-56 mm and this is what I used. I didn't bother to change the plug wires as they seemed fine to me.
Relatively easy job. Took me 90 minutes to do. I am novice mind you. I am not sure what vehicle the poster below was referring to. The coil packs were located in the front of the engine, not on top of the spark plugs.
>in the usual place, you will not recognize them as you cant see them as they >have a coil pack on top of each one. coil is about 1 1/2" round thing with a >7mm >bolt holding it on. take the bolt out and pull off the coil pack and you >can get to the plugs
I'm having the same issue as you are. Reshutting...uh...nearly slamming the doors multiple times eventually fixed it. However the problem is back every day and now the rear interior light won't shut off. All the doors are shut and there is nothing blocking them. I'm still searching for an answer. 1997 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 L could be that the rear hatch may not be closed completely, i have had the same thing happen on my 1998
Why does the ABS light stay on in a 1999 mercury mountaineer?
There is something wrong with your Anti-lock Brake System
It could be a fuse , a sensor , or some other problem
As long as the " BRAKE " light in your dash is not on , you still have " normal "
brakes
* in my case , the ABS light suddenly stayed on and the first ABS fuse
that I checked was not installed all the way . I touched the fuse with
my finger , heard a " click " , and the ABS light went out ( just lucky I
guess , but also suspicious of how that could have happened )
