Transmission will not come out of park?

I'm not completely familiar with the VW transmission, but I had a Subaru Impreza that had this problem one time. The problem was that the safety lock (that keeps you from taking it out of park without applying the brake) was tied into the horn relay on my Impreza. It's probably a similar issue with your VW, although it may be a different relay that has gone bad. In other words, check your relays & fuses, because it's more than likely an electrical issue. Also, in the Subaru, there was a small hole at the front of the shifter (in front of Park, beneath the plastic console) that you could insert a screwdriver into to bypass the relay in order to drive the car until the relay could be repaired. Again, not sure about VW's design, but I hope this information is useful!

Why do you smell gas fumes in your 1995 mercury tracer?

This may be of interest to all 1995 Tracer owners: NHTSA Recall No. 97V144/Ford Recall No. 97S79 Vehicles: Ford 1995 Escort and Mercury Tracer model vehicles equipped with 1.9L engines and manufactured from April through October 1995. Population: 64,000 vehicles built at the Hermosillo or Wayne Assembly Plants, and originally sold or currently registered in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. Problem: Cracks can develop in the fuel tank near the heat shield attachment resulting in fuel leakage if the cracks go through the fuel tank wall. Fuel leakage can result in a vehicle fire. Remedy: Dealers will remove the heat shield attachments. This will not affect heat shield location or function, as the attachments are intended to keep the shield in place until the fuel tank is installed in the vehicle. After installation, the fuel tank straps retain the heat shield. Owners should contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Cooling fan won't run 1996 Mercury Tracer 1.9L Fan motor checked to be ok Help?

Under the hood there will be a fusebox....also there are relays. If you can hotwire the fan to run, the relay is probably bad. There is also a collant temp sensor to check out if all else fails. It is located by the thermostat housing.
