How many people in the USA are allergic to MSG?
It's actually not an allergy to MSG. The active part of MSG, glutamate, is used as a neruotransmitter in the brain and other nerve cells. Excess glutamate can overstimulate these brain cells and other nerve cells throughout the body and cause many different symptoms. Some people are very sensitive to MSG, but they're not allergic to it. One study showed that 25% of the people who consumed MSG in a meal reported having symptoms following MSG consumption. But when the people where given MSG without a meal in the morning, after being in a fasted state all night, all of the people reported symptoms from the MSG. Even moderately low blood sugar such as being in a fasted state all night or intense exercise will make you more sensitive to MSG.
Why are some twitter followers able to direct msg and som not?
You can DM all people on Twitter. The problem with DM'ing some people is because they have not yet followed you. Until a person follows you back you will remain unable to DM them. Once they have followed you back you can do both public (@) and private (DM) conversations. Unless, of course, they stop following you for whatever reason. The moment they do that you no longer will be able to DM them. Good reason to maintain Twitter etiquette and playing nice on Twitter else you be unfollowed. Or worse, even blocked. If you receive to many blocks your Twitter account can actually be suspended. All part of the way the world works on Twitter.

Some Doritos do have MSG, as it is a common additive to snacks and foods which the companies either want to overwhelm you with flavor (Doritos, Jack Links,) or don't taste good on their own (ramen and many canned soups.) Most companies don't abbreviate it, but look for monosodium glutamate if you don't like the stuff. (Or if you do but want to limit it, as I do, check so you know how often you're eating it.)
The myth that it's bad for you is fairly thoroughly debunked, but hypochondriac conspiracy theories persist. Consider the ~1.5million tons China consumes every year (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/aug/12/msg-allergy-chinese-restaurant-syndrome-myth)
Personally I don't like the bad breath it gives me, and high salt/msg snacks also give me a sore throat the next day so I try to avoid it. (Other concentrated glutamates don't have this effect on me, so I don't worry about them.)
The connection with obesity isn't the msg directly, but that the msg makes it taste better so you eat more of it (regardless of what low quality the food is otherwise.)

Yes! They absolutely do! I learned the hard way yesterday, you see MSG gives me migraines, classic migraines with the visual aura and until you have one, you have no idea what we who get them go through. Since I have never eaten there I decided to give it a try, as usual whenever I eat out anywhere I have never been to before I inquired about the use of MSG, the workers at the local Zaxbys here in Florida informed me that MSG wasn't listed on any of their ingredient labels so I ordered the fried chicken club sandwich. That was 2 days ago. Normally when I get a reaction from ingesting MSG I get the migraine the following day. Like clockwork, yesterday I got one of the worst migraines I have ever had. I called Zaxbys toll free number and was informed that they are a customer service contract and had no clue about MSG in any of Zaxbys food items, that they would have to contact "management" who would then email me an answer! Meanwhile I am left suffering from a severe migraine! Its been almost 24 hours and I still haven't received that email! However a call to the manager of the local Zaxbys and his subsequent investigation revealed that YES in fact MSG is used in the marinade! Thanks to Zaxbys ineptness I was left to endure almost 20 hours of migraine headache!

I think it would be possible if a lot of the MSG entered the brain, since it would overstimulate brain cells which would generate enormous amounts of free radicals that damage DNA. However, I think it would be extremely rare. Excess glutamate such as that found in MSG has been shown to increase the growth and spread of cancer once you do have it though. I would be more concerned about MSG damaging and killing off my brain cells.

There is no evidence to suggest that MSG is addictive. The reason people crave fast food is far more coplex than lumping the blame on MSG, for example, the fact that it's easy, and that it contains large amounts of salt sugar and fat, which all humans are programmed to crave, being relatively uncommon until recently.
MSG is not difficult to avoid at all, all you need to do is prepare your own food.
MSG is not to blame for addiction in any way whatsoever, and if it is linked to obesity, it's unproven, as Asian cuisine has been using it as a flavour enhancer for years, and they don't have anywhere near the problem that the US and UK have.
All MSG is is a kind of salt, and while there are issues with the high salt content of pre-packaged meals and junk food, there's no evidence that MSG is any worse than table salt.
