How do you change the thermostat on a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S?
The thermostat for a 94 cutlass ciera s is located on the top driver side of the motor trace the top radiator hose to the motor and there is a housing their for the thermostat. Now the hard part, there are 2 bolts (13mm) holding the housing on, the top one is easy. The bottom one you wiil need a LONG 13mm open end wrench, then very slowly being able to only move the bolt about 1/8th inch at a time you remove the bolt and wiggle and wobble the housing off and remove thermostat then put new one in, the thermostat has a rubber seal around it so there is no need for a gasket, the thermostat sets into a slight recess in the block so that the seal sets flush with the engine block. Rebolt housing and that's it . GOOD LUCK!
How do you repair power windows on a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera LS?
Remove the door panel. Find the motor and drill out the rivets or get the old motor out by any means necessary. Unplug the motor
Bolt in your new window motor and plug it back it. Before you replace the door panel, turn your car back on and make sure that the window motor is working. If it works replace the door panel. If not check the fit of the motor and the wiring.
takes about 3 hours your first time if you have all the tools you need and know how to get the door panel off.
Haynes makes the book for this car that tells you some of how to remove the interior side panel of the door and the special tool to remove the inside door handle...then go from there to buy the handle kit at auto parts or at junkyard or wherever you can. its a tricky job so if you feel nervous you'd be better off having a friend that know or a good mechanic for between 40.00 and 60.00 to do it.

Will a 1994 3.1 engine work in a 1996 old cutlass?
Only a 1994 3100SFI engine. Not a 1994 3.1L MPFI (still used in Cavaliers in that year).
If you're going through the trouble of swapping the engine, you should go with something newer/bigger. Try a 3400SFI instead. It'll fit and bolt directly to everything your old engine did.
first of all if there is one on it u will take it off at the carb first unclip it or take the pin out holding it onto the carb then squeeze the tabs on each side of the plastic part going through the bracket on the engine just behind the carb then there will be a bolt where it bolts into the transmission on the drivers side remove the bolt ,pull the housing of the cable out keep pulling until the wire inside of the transmission is up so you can see it , then gently clamp a set of needle nose vise grips onto the wire to hold it up it will have a sort of bend on the top of the wire tilt the cable side ways and take off the wire. to install tilt the new cable sideways the same way and work back on the wire . NOTE : make sure the end of the cable is sitting same direction of wire once installed!! put housing back into transmission and put bolt back in . pull on opposite end of cable to make sure it is moving freely (should go back on its own)then reinstall the other end into the bracket on the motor and reattatch to carb. hope this helps

How do you install a fuel pump in 1993 Oldsmobile cutlass wagon?
Take the gas tank down as the pump is inside the gas tank.
Look at the pistons in the caliper. If it is a cup type piston there could be several reasons for this, (requiring researching technical manuals). But if it is a solid piston with what appears to be 4 raised tabs around the piston in a + configuration this suggests that you may need to screw the piston back into the caliper turning it clockwise. Sometimes this takes quite a bit of turning. Otherwise the pistons are stuck, or you might need to open the bleed screws and compress the pistons as some vehicles have one-way pressure valves in the system. . To add a '96 cutlass caliper piston has to be screwed in clockwise with also applying steady pressure
I would go to a wrecking yard and look at the same type of vehicle and fashion a homemade tool device to jimmy the hood open,. The latch is located in front of the radaiator, I would look around the neighborhood for another GM car of that vintage to familiarize myself... .
I've got a '93 Cutlass Supreme, and judging by the body style I don't imagine much has changed. I was able to get my hood open by hand, no tool required. In between the radiator and the front bumper is a space that will allow you to access the latch. All that you can see from this angle is the spring that secures the latch when you close the hood, but you can feel the mechanism. If you push back the plastic that backs the bumper, you can even see the wire (in its plastic casing) that releases the hood.
By laying on the ground (feet toward the passenger side of the car), I was able to pull the latch open. The latch is spring loaded as well. It swings on a point near the hood itself. In order to release the latch, look for the end of the wire that pulls open the latch. If it's clean it will be bright aluminum. Unfortunately, the reason that it is probably stuck is that it is all gummed up with dirt and grime. You should be able to follow along the wire as I mentioned before and feel the end cap. Pull the lever that the wire is attached to toward the driver's side of the car. It may take some doing, but it should release the latch.
I haven't resolved the problem yet, but at least you can get the hood open. I know that a couple of years ago, my latch started to stick. I doused it with WD-40 and when it dried I coated it in white lithium grease. Unfortunately I think this only compounded the problem by providing a sticky surface for grime to build upon, which resulted in the latch getting too jammed to open by the regular method. I have cleaned it again with WD-40 and it appears to be OK. I will post more once I am sure I have actually got it in working order.

I too had this problem with my 92, if most everything is still intact. After you've done the things mentioned above by these helpful dudes. You may have jiggled it enough around (played with the inner mechanisms). You may try standing on the broke cable inside the car and with pliers er, whatever pull it again and then go try to lift the hood. Mine came open like that. Car had been giving me fits. So, i actually broke the inside lever twice. 1st one pulled the plastic piece off. second one broke the end of the wire, and tore it off the floor. Anger never helps, hah. Think things through is good advice.

What will cause a 94 Olds Cutlass to suddenly develop a problem shifting from first to 2nd gear?
something i discovered with my 1994 cutsup, it shifted roughly from 1st to second. i drove it for a month like that, until i changed the air filter. i removed the plastic box the air filter sits in to vacuum it out, and i saw that a hose (in charge of vacuum-shifting) was loose. the idiot before me had used a garden hose and some rubber bands. i replaced it with a brake cylendar hose off of a 1987 Pontiac lemans, and it cured the problem, no leaks, no low fluid.
hopfully it is just low transmission fluid or a cloged filter. I would check the fluid level (when eninge is warm)1st. if the level is fine, change the transmission fluid and filter if it has been over about 45K miles since it was last done.
Why would an 96 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme keep overheating and leaking antifreeze?
check carefully for thin cracks on the radiator tanks(side plastic covers on radiator)
you probably have to remove the radiator to get a better look. Also replace the
radiator hoses if their old. If the leak continues then it's most likely your heatercore.
