How much labor time to replace heater core on a 1978 firebird?
This is one of the worst cars to have to replace a heater core in. Typically, the best way is to remove the passenger side inner fender. Some of the later inner fenders do have an impression in the inner panel that allows you to cut it, pull it down and access the area. Either way, it takes several hours to do the heater core on that car.

Why headlights keep blowing out in a 1999 Firebird?
Same reason they do in mine -- its a crappy design -- Have you ever taken a light bulb and shook it? If you do it enough you will break the filament --- the lights on the Firebird Slam down with some pretty good force -- I tend to replace them about every 3 month because of that, sometimes you will find the socket came off as well
Have you checked the thermostat? They make fail safe ones that I highly recommend. Also, is the fan coming on? If the car has a working a/c, put it on max and the fan should automatically kick on immediately. If not, the fuse could be blown or something else. Check for recalls. Not that GM will do anything, but it may give you a heads up to the problem. My son's 98 had this problem and it was recalled. -Karen

How do you reset the check engine light on a 1999 Pontiac Firebird?
There is no reset for the check engine light. The light is an emissions system malfunction indicator. It is necessary to diagnose and repair the cause. There are aftermarket code readers (an paper clips work too) which will lead you to the area of the problem. After that experience and a good emissions system book is needed to find the real cause. You cannot just replace the part the code represents, other emissions systems will cause some codes to set. Skill and knowledge come in play. Take it to a good shop. Disconnect the battery overnight. That will reset the entire computer. It will also reset the fuel learns, takes 100-300 miles to relearn, and will lock the Delco stereo (somewhat permanent if you do not know the code - read the owners manual). If the original condition still exists it will set the code again, otherwise, it will be gone!
