Next, remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. Once the belt is off, take out the idler pulley by unscrewing the bolts that secure it, then replace the old bearing with a new one or install a new idler pulley if necessary. How do you replace the thermostat locataed on a 1990 Pontiac sunbird?

Your sunbird is only a one year difference from mine, so it should be the same, when you open the hood, on top of the rad, on the left hand side, should be your rad cap. When you get that off, there should be a square-ish "hook" inside, right up top, that is your thermostat. To get it out, pull on it, that's all just pull, it should put up some resistance, that's normal, the "hook" shold have a circular piece attached to it. Once you get it out put in the new one. It's actually very simple, anyways, i hope that helps.

Do you have a vacuum hose diagram for a 1991 Pontiac sunbird?

The vacuum diagrams are generally located on the undserside of the hood. Although in my case, its a hood from a cavalier with the reverse cowel induction, and the 2.8 and 3.1 are slightly different in the vacuum line department. How do you replace the power steering hoses in a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird V6 3.1 SE?

You need to first remove the serpentine belt on the left side of the engine, and locate your power steering pump. It is easy to find it has the plastic power steering fluid reservoir attached to it. remove the 3 bolts holding it on by sticking your socket tool through the holes drilled in the pulley. (the pulley needs a special puller to remove don't try it) So when you have the pump in your hand you will find it has 2 high pressure hoses coming out the back... loosen the fittings and remove them from the pump. At this point there will be power steering fluid squirting everywhere so make sure you have rags and a catch basin somewhere handy. Now take the lines and follow them back to where they connect to the power steering rack. They should have similar threaded fittings connecting them to the rack. remove these fittings and lift the hoses out of the vehicle being careful not to get the leaking steering fluid on your paint job. Now.... Hopefully you had the good sense to get your hoses first from the parts store and you should now take them out of the plastic and mount them to the power steering rack where you took off the old hoses. make sure you remember where each hose came from because they are different lengths. (These hoses are special hoses with steel inside) DO NOT KINK THE HOSES OR TRY TO REPLACE WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE PROPER HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS!!!! once the hoses are connected to the steering rack. take the power steering pump and connect the hoses to the fittings on the back. mount the pump back on the vehicle and replace the serpentine belt around all the pulleys.(check the diagram on the piece of plastic under the hood for routing the belt) Now the final part. fill the Power steering reservoir to the proper mark and recheck your work now. make sure you haven't left any tools laying about, now go inside and turn on the vehicle. At this point there should be a loud whinning/grinding sound DON'T WORRY this is normal. It is the pump cavitating and pushing the air out of the system. go inside and turn the steering wheel back and forth from left to right stop. a little while of this and the whining sound will go away as the air bubbles are worked out of the fluid. Now go back under the hood and check the pump's fluid level... it may have dropped a little bit depending on how much air has been worked out of the system

How do you remove front tire if stuck?

Is the tire stuck on the rim, or is the rim stuck to the wheel/brake rotor? FriPilot Let's assume that on a dark rainy night you notice a thumping and you pull over and have a flat tire. You pull out your spare tire, lug wrench, and jack, set the emergency brake, loosen the lugnuts, jack up the vehicle, and the wheel refuses to budge from the car after you remove the lugnuts. No matter how hard you kick, pull, or pry on the wheel it is not coming off. You are out in the boondocks with no cellphone or help nearby. Put the lugnuts back on the wheel but leave about 1/4 inch space on each nut before the nut would contact the wheel. Jack the vehicle back down and remove the jack and anything else out away from the car. Get back in the car and drive it back and forth while turning the steering wheel sharply in one direction and then the other (watching out for traffic of course). The wheel will pop away from the rotor and you can then change the tire normally.

This applies to only automatic transmission cars. If your car stalls when decelerating from high speeds, restarts fine, but dies again as soon as you put it in gear, your lockup solenoid is most likely bad. Check out the faq on this page for some more info on what is happening.

Note: This is a good time to do a transmission fluid and filter change but you don't have too. Very little will get out of the part you must take off.

= Parts =

* New TCC Lockup solenoid * New gasket (Mine disintegrated) or forma gasket high temperature gasket maker * I would also suggest a new electrical connector where you plug in to TCC.

= Tools =

* Typical set of tools

= How To Do It =

Loosen the lug nuts on the driver side front wheel and then jack the car up. I would suggest putting both sides up on supports because you will need the jack in a minute Once jacked up take off the wheel and remove the lower part of the wheel well gaurd. Mine was in front at the bottom. Now you can see a little part of the casing. Inside is the valve body and the PITA TCC. Remove the bolts from the cover . I had a problem with my A part of the unibody get in the way so I would jack the engine up a little by putting it on the front driver side mount or torsion strut. Whereever it gives you about 4 inches. Once the bolts are removed remove the pan but don't count on the gasket from around the side pan to crack up. Replace it or get a forma gasket high temperature stuff. Remove the pan with a little manuvering. The TCC is on the lower back side of the valve body with a bolt holding it on. There are also a series of wires going from it to your left and right. Do a swap wire for wire. I didn't and had to redo it. Now the hard part was getting the plug in to the connector on top and behind the valve body. Remove the connector and try slipping the connnector through. The plug in on the TCC will be marked + and - so try matching it up and it has a little ridge on the top of my new one which tells me it's the top. There's only two ways to put it in and only one is right. The wires are atleast color coated to help you. When finished just put either the forma gasket on the caseing or the new gasket and very slowly slip the panel back on and tighten the bolts. Make sure you check the fluid level and top it off if needed and have fun. Mine doesn't act up at all. The total cost of the repair may be about max 60 us bucks depending on wether you get a new gasket and if you need a little fluid to top it off. I keep some extra around as well as forma gasket which has never leaked on me so I suggest the forma gasket and so It only cost me for the TCC and that was 45 US dollars from the dealer here in tampa.

Why does the check engine light still come on after the gasket was changed?

Did you reset the light? I don't know what gasket you changed, but undoubtedly that was not the problem. The check engine light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system.
