A malfunctioning sensor can cause the service engine light to stay on. A glitch in the computer can also cause the light to stay on.

The Security light "on" means that your VATS, or vehicle anti theft system is in operation. therefore, to deter theft, it won't start. Usually, putting the key in the door lock and turning it will do the trick.

I just changed my "lamp" which is the whole enclosure. Last year i replaced the socket which holds the bulb and has 3 wires. All you need to do is get under the front and using a 10mm socket take off the bolts holding the plastic cover which folds down then you can get access to the socket/lamp assembly. I spliced my socket in with crimp connectors. The socket twists out with a press on a tab and will come out of the lamp "enclosure". if you want to replace the whole assembly "lamp" its held in by two bolts inthe back 7mm socket. Good luck. Just get the car up on ramps and its cake! Put some anti corrosion matierial in the new socket. I just changed my "lamp" which is the whole enclosure. The man most credited with it is Pontiac engineer Herb Adams. He had been head of development team on the PFST (Pontiac Firebird Sprint Turismo) in 1967-68. The special suspension parts developed for the PFST were used on the first Trans Am in 1969. Adams was head of special projects for Pontiac until the mid 1970's and raced Firebirds (and later his own renditions the "Fire-Am" and "Silverbird") in SCCA competition for several years.

There is only one servicable filter, located under the car on the passenger's frame rail back near the fuel tank. There is a pickup "sock" in the fuel tank, but that doesn't ususally get serviced until you replace the fuel pump.

Not always. You haven't said what kind of 350 you're talking about. Is it an LT1? Is it a Vortec? Is it an LS1? If you said yes to any of those then the answer is likely "NO" for LT1 and definitely "NO" for the others.

There two nuts and one bolt you have to remove. I believe all you need is a 10mm socket to remove these fasteners. Pry off the corner light and underneath are the two nuts. On the inside toward the grill is the other bolt. Take those off and the whole headlight and housing comes out. Make sure you unplug the headlight harness too!

If your TA has a/c with auto climate control then it is mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay near your fire wall. it will have 5 prongs on it. you will have a combination ground in one terminal where two ground wires enter the lug at the same spot. to test this simply turn egnition switch to on but do not start, turn your control lever to highest position then conect a jumper wire strait from your positive lead on the battery, your blower terminal should be the odd "5th" terminal (should be purple wire)that looks like it runs back thru into your passenger door) touch it to that and your fan should work. DO NOT TOUCH TO THE DOUBLE GROUND TERMINAL!

I think there is no 96 Trans Am. The Trans Sport module is on the rear center of the engine. Remove and replace it with standard US or metric tools. There are three electrical plugs to remove from socket.

The Trans am didnt die till 2002 there was one in 96.

Check to see if water is getting into the brake light sockets causing them to short to ground

Depends on which engine it has. A Google Search with the term "1996 Pontiac Trans Am Specifications" will give you the answer. I'd say anywhere between 250-270 RWHP.....On a stock motor....like mentioned, Depends on if it is a stock Lt1 or not!!

The stock Lt1 has 275 or 285 hp to the crank depending on year. 93-95 has 275 while the 96-97 has 285. Check this link out

There are two, one which feeds the PCM in the water pump, another for the guage in the drivers's side of the block just below the plugs.

On the 10th Anniversary Editions, the power antenna is located on the top edge of the driver's side fender about 1 1/2 feet from the bottom edge of the front windshield and about 1/2 inch to the left of the hood line space (space between hood and fender when hood is closed). I would go online and pull up eBay motors "trans am" then click 70-81 and look for a 10th anniversary edition with pictures. for the SE and base Trans Am's in '79 the antenna is located on the rear drivers quarter panel just about in the middle of the trunk lid. if you open the trunk the antenna would be located on the far left side. when the trunk is closed the hole is about an inch to an inch and a half to the left of the lid on the quarter.

for the front, its a little bit behind the front of the door. there should be a 4-6" indent where the jack heaad should be placed

I'm not a mechanic but typically the "ground" as you call it is actually the mounting screws for the device. The entire frame and body of a vehicle becomes a large return path for electrons used by all electrical devices.

If your device has an actual "ground" wire, connect it to any metal connected to the body or frame of the vehicle. Electrically it doesn't matter; you are just trying to provide a return path back to the battery, which is connected to the body or frame.
