How do you wire an alternator on a 1980 Trans Am?

there should be an alternator "plug" which consists of 2 wires that go to a plastic plug that snaps into the alternator. the wire lead should be a part of the engine wire harness located on drivers side firewall about 1 1/2 feet below wiper deck. the alternator itself has a screw off back side that can be removed for internal wiring issues related solely to the alternator itself. i would buy a manual from your local auto parts store (or order it in) for the 80 TA it should have a diagram for the alternator wiring with an exploded view.

How do you fix headlight of 1991 Pontiac firebird?

Problems with your headlights are usually associated with the headlight gears becoming stripped or the "pucks" underneath the gear have been ground to powder. Check out these links to purchase replacement headlight gears. These gears are made from CNC milled stock and work very well; I purchased and installed them on my 91 Firebird. Note: if you purchase from Rodney Dickman, he includes the Gear, Delrin Bushings (i.e. pucks), Gasket, and Silcone Grease. http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/ http://www.rodneydickman.com/index.html

What goes faster a 1978 trans am or a 1978 Camaro?

Depends on what your interpretation of "faster" is. Top speed, 0 to 60...etc. What engine, transmission and rear end gears? I can tell you this...the 78 Camaro had a 305.....maybe a 350. The 78 T/A was available with a Pontiac 400. More horsepower and torque than the Camaro. Both cars with the same drive train and gearing...with the top engine offered for both cars....the T/A is "faster".

How much is a restored 1981 trans am valued at?

It could vary, how well it was restored, what it was restored with, how much if it is still original. For example, if the stock paint color said (example: Candy Apple Red) and you had it custom painted black with super cool flames, the value drops. If you have looked at restored cars, some say "MATCHING NUMBERS" which means it was repalced with the original part, which keeps the value higher. Modifying stocj parts could go both ways, if you have an original Pontiac 400 motor, and you bore it out, it could still go for the same cause its the original motor. After market motors, though nice, might not appeal to people who want the car original.

How can you get horsepower from Pontiac 455 engine?

There are many ways to increase the 455 horsepower. With a cam/valve train swap and working over the heads (or replacing with aftermarket) you can be in the 500+ range. "Pontiac High Performance" is a great source for information on engine modifications.

How do you change the shifter knob on a automatic 1994 Pontiac Firebird?

I have a 94 Firebird and on the bottom of the shifter knob there is a "U" shaped clip. You will have to shift into L1 to see it since it is on the front of the knob. Once you pull out the clip, it slides off and you can replace it with whatever kind you wnat but make sure the "push to shift" function is on the new knob.

If Both were stock whats faster a 93 or 95 trans am lt1 or a same year Corvette?

the corvette would be faster hands down. for one it puts out 300hp oppose to the 275 that the trans am is putting out, its geared differently, and built better. between a 93 and 95 trans am lt1 it all depends on the driver, the cars differences were small things like the opti spark was vented on 95 but not 93. however a 96 or 97 lt1 would be faster because its puttin out 285hp due to the new Y pipe they use.

How do you change the heater core on a 1979 Trans Am and does this year still require removal of the fender?

I just changed the heater core on my 1981 Trans Am about a month ago...NOT FUN. To start, I removed all of the AC ducts under dash. I also removed the "bubble" vent cover off the kick panel, and the complete glove box including the door. Zip tied alot of wiring and cables out of the way. There is one bolt that is virtually impossible to reach without removing the fender, it is also a pain trying to get to the lower heater hose. My solution: I did what Pontiac should have done from the factory...I cut a small access hole in the fender well. It's about 3.5 X 3.5 inches square. I was able to remove the heater hose clamp, and the bolt through the heater box. Just big enough to get my hand through, sand and file the sharp edges. As a repair...I went to a salvage yard, bought another fender well, laid the cut out portion over the spot, cut it out about 4 inches all the way around...made two tabs on one side and a tab on the other. Then I cut slits in the fender well on the car to put the tabs into, and drilled a hole in the other tab, and screwed this access cover back on. It's not factory original, and I'm sure some people would have a problem with it...but they may have never replaced a heater core before. Or, yes, take the fender and hood off. The actually removal and reinstallation of the heater core box is very time consuming, and if you have little or no patience....PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT.

The most important part of the operation is the installation, be very carefull with the new heater core outlets, they will bend and possibly split very easily.

There was a lot of careful twisting and manuvering done under the dash. This may not be the right way, but it worked for me.
