Hi to change the heater core you can start by ensuring the antifreeze in the engine is cold if you have hose clamps. clamp the heater hoses so they do not leak if you do not have clamps just drain the radiator. next put a catch pan under the passenger side of the car near the fire wall to catch any antifreeze that does leak out. than go inside the car on the passenger side open the glove box empty its comtents and remove the glove box door and liner. after this is done you can remove all the bolts around the heater box(I think there are 14 of them) when the heater box comes out the heater core is in it . to reassemble just reverse the process.

It can be a number of things, check your fuel delivery. Make sure there is spark going to the engine and make sure there is fuel going also. It could be a clogged fuel filter, faulty spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor. Also, check your timing chain. These are just some of the basics.

My trans am did something like that, only thing is that it still started but died a few seconds later each time. It turned out to be my crankshaft position sensor. But you should check fuel delivery, make sure the engine is getting a spark as well as fuel.
