Where is the thermostat located on a 1994 Pontiac Transport V6?
If you have the 3800 series engine (3.8L), then the thermostat can be found under the alternator. Do not attempt to replace it if the engine has been run within the past hour and a half, as the coolant may still be hot enough to burn you. Remove the positive cable from the battery. Look for the tensioner pulley along the serpentine belt route and pry it towards the radiator with a 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet while you or a helper carefully slip the loosened belt over the alternator pulley; you may need someone to point this pulley out to you. Next, remove the front and rear bolts that hold the alternator. Wiggle the alternator forward and backward until it's free. Place it aside and take care not to damage the wires going to it. Now you should be able to see a large black hose under where the alternator was. The following steps will involve spilling anti-freeze, so I suggest spreading cat litter under the engine or laying down old towels or using a large drainpan to contain the leakage. Loosen the hose clamp and pull that end of the hose off of the thermostat housing. Romove the two bolts holding this housing down, and carefully tap the housing with a hammer handle or screwdriver handle if you can't simply pull it off. You will find the old thermostat in the housing or still on the block. If the thermostat has dirt or debris on it and appears to have been blocked or stopped up by this, you will need to flush the radiator and cooling system. Now you will need to lightly scrape all of the old gasket material off of the housing and mating location on the engine block. Follow directions with the thermostat to ensure proper installation of the new gasket. Insert the spring side of the thermostat into the engine block and place the housing on top, carefully alligning the bolt holes. Start the bolts by hand and rotate them at least three complete turns to prevent cross-threading the bolts. Snug these bolts down but do not over-tighten. Finish the job by reversing these directions, but make sure the serpentine belt is centered on ALL of the pulleys before starting the engine. After engine start, refill coolant tank and watch for leaks around the repair area. Check your coolant over the next few days and weeks to ensure you aren't leaking.

Gas gauge reads full all the time on a 97 Pontiac transport?
One question.. does it read past the "Full" mark? Or does it move around a little? But... A common problem with the GM vans... There is a "Fuel Level Card" in the fuel pump located in the fuel tank.. The card send a signal to the ECM to the dashboard for your fuel gauge.. If you have over 100,000 miles on the van I would replace the whole fuel pump assembly (250 -300 bucks +labor) as the tank has to come out anyway.. remember Murphys law will come in if you just replace the fuel card.

How do you change spark plugs on a 1998 Pontiac Transport?
It is very hard to get to some of them. If you can't do it get someone to do it for you.
Ok 02/19/2012 I had to change the spark plugs in my daughter's 98 transporter, I read all the other methods of getting to the rear spark plugs and although they were good I found that the best way to get to them and have room all day long is:
Renove the two from engine mount bolts (8 of them) then jack the engine up from the bottom with a floor jack until the engine moved forward...remove the alternator and you have room all day long to get to the spark plus in the rear you can see all three and reach with with perfect ease.....!!! You can fit 3 migits and a 4 year old back there then!!! Total time 15 min.

Just happened to me. We thought it was the fuel pump; turns out it was a bad ignition switch. Turn on interior lights, try to start van, when you release the key and engine quits and interior lights go out at the same time, that's what it is.

How can you clean under your car hood?
You can have your engine compartment looking fine if you use a scrub brush and dish soap to loosen dust and dirt, Rinse with water being careful to not spray water into the air intake or to spray cold water on hot spark plugs. If you have caked on grease and grime, you can attack it with foaming engine degreaser that you can find at any parts store.
After you rinse all the crud off, go back over all the rubber hoses and plastic housings with a plastic protectant like ArmorAll(R).
Be sure to inspect all of your hoses and belts and change them out if needed.

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 2000 Pontiac Montana?
I just did it tonight. on my 2000 MT, remove the air cleaner tube, throttle body, the thermostat is just below the throttle body in the aluminum cast housing. two bolts to remove, one was easy the other was a real $%&^!!. It is behind the exhaust cross over tube. Good luck. Took me about 2 hours. TIP - use WD-40 on the air cleaner tubing to get it to go back on the Throttle body. Another persons comments.
From the beginning of automotive design way before the Model T, items that need frequent service must be easily reached for replacement. The position of the Montana and Venture thermostat just violates every rule in design. If you could remove the screws to the casting over the thermostat, on my van there is not enough room to remove the part. This is not the only part like this under the hood of the van. Try the hoses to the heater core tubes.
Most all manuals say "remove the exaust crossover" which is made impossible by a heat shield that has bolts in the back that can not be seen or easily accessed. Oh, there is also a metal water pipe to the heater across the area that keeps the heat shield over the crossover from coming up if you could get it loose. The metal pipe has some brackets and you have to bend it to get out of the way once it is detached from hoses. If the shield comes up then you can access the three stud bolts that attach the crossover to the front manifold. Then there is the intake to the throttle body that probably needs to be removed to get good access. The thermostat also sits facing out where gravity wants to let it drop out while you try to put the casting back on the intake. It goes on and on. I see why this is a 4 hour job for the GM service folks, just for a thermostat!
I have yet to figure out how to replace the thermostat short of cutting out the front section of the heat shield over the crossover pipe.
On my 93' transport # Remove radio from car. # Remove face # unplug the "keyboards" (3 of them) # Remove the two light panels # run 5v-12v through the light boards to see which bulbs are burnt # Get new bulbs # sodier in new bulbs # reinsert the two light panels # plug in all three keyboards # attach face # reinstall radio I really recommend testing the light panels before reassembly I put the radio back in the car twice before bench testing them. Then the third install I forgot to pug the lower keyboard back in. I haven't remove the radio a Fourth time yet to fix that. Go slow and try not to forget any step.
Where Air Conditioner evaporator drain hose located for Pontiac Transport SE 1996?
There isn't exactly a hose. The drain port is located along the firewall, directly behind the sparkplugs. Easiest to reach from underneath the vehicle. By removing the cover under the dash (passengerside) you will be able to see where a part of the housing "drops" to the drivers side of the fan motor. That is the drain. FYI: Check your Cabin Air Filters. They are located behind the access door in the glove compartment.
