On what did the prophets base their predictions?
On direct revelation from God. Whenever God has a message for mankind He will reveal that message to the prophet through the power of the Holy Spirit. From the sun and in the moon and in the stars.

It must be an "if", "then" statement such as "If the concentration of amylase is higher, then the time of starch disappearance will take longer."

What is predicted to happen to the rainforest?
Predictions include a 20-40% reduction in the next ten, twenty-five, fifty, or one hundred years; a 40% reduction in the next few (undefined) years (which has been debunked as fraud); total loss within the next one hundred years; or little to no change and possibly rebound due to intervention efforts.
There are many predictions regarding the rainforests of the world. Any of them could result. Currently, with the level of deforestation, it is likely that if nothing changes, the rainforests of South America may disappear in the next one hundred years.
Deforestation has been reduced in South America. While some muck slingers like to blame the US for much of the loss due to logging of exotic woods, the US has had a ban on imports of exotics such as Brazilian mahogany and tropical rosewood for years. This is supported by the Lacey Act (16 U.S.C. SS 3371-3378), especially the 2008 amendment that includes exotic woods the US specifically bans and those products that are banned by the nations in which they are harvested. In short, it ain't us. This isn't to imply that illegal operations don't continue, but the efforts of the US are to stop it from coming here.
Much of the cleared land in Columbia and Brazil are for those nations' own interests. Logging is minor (although devastating to the land and ecosystem) in the grander scheme, playing further back in the pack of reasons to cattle raising for beef and agriculture (which leads to clear cutting of forests) to feed the growing populations of South American countries.
The rainforests of the Amazon basin are much more resilient than many people believe. The 2007 IPCC report that predicted a 40% reduction in the near future of the Amazon forest has proven to be false, perhaps even fabricated to push other agendas.
By all means, no one should take a "wait and see" attitude. Reforestation and protection efforts are important, should continue, and should even be increased. But, this should be for the right reasons, not because of some knee-jerk reaction to doom-criers.
Are you referring to the definition to be simple or the definition of "simple predicate"?
Anyway, I'm thinking that you mean the former. A simple predicate is the word that shows what is happening. In the before sentence, is is the simple predicate. "is the word that shows what is happening" is the whole predicate. A verb will not always be the simple predicate, and simple predicates will not always be 1 word.

An actual bushfire cannot be predicted, but bushfire conditions can certainly be predicted. Variables include basic idiocy of humankind, e.g. whether or not arsonists will start the fire; whether or not someone will fully put out a campfire; whether or not someone will throw a lit cigarette butt out of a car window. However, the weather plays an important part in bushfire conditions, and "bushfire danger" warnings vary from low to extreme (and now a new category - "catastrophic" - has been added to the levels).

Once you have identified an animal as a squirrel then you can anticipate what it will do based on the general knowledge of the classification, "squirrel." How they predicted the weather before computers?
They used historical data. Written weather references go back hundreds of years - long before computers were invented.
Predicting outcomes is telling what might possibly happen next.
What is the predicted fate of Triton?
Triton's future is fairly clear. Because of its retrograde orbit, the tidal bulge Triton raises on Neptune tends to make the moon spiral toward the planet rather than away from it (as our Moon moves away from Earth). Thus, Triton is doomed to be torn apart by Neptune's tidal gravitational field, probably in no more than 100 million years or so, the time required for the moon's inward spiral to bring it inside Neptune's Roche limit.
Do pyramids predict the end of the world?
The Egyptian pyramids were built as monuments to the early pharaohs and for their burial. The design of the pyramids appears to be related to the worship of the sun god and belief in some sort of resurrection of the dead. They do not give us any clues as to when the world is supposed to end.
