Protests are often held as peaceful demonstrations. However, during times of civil unrest, a small spark can set off a violent riot. Protests have happened all over the world, and are sometimes history-changing events.

Why is a boycott a good way to protest?

A boycott is a good way to protest because you are essentially pulling support from that which you are protesting.

What had turned into an unfair relationship will buckle/change after it's most important support source is missing.

What did gandhi protest against?

Corruption within the Catholic Church. Martin Luther wanted reforms within the church, specifically pertaining to rich people being able to pay for having sins forgiven. The Catholic Church did make changes, but not quickly enough to prevent the Protestant Reformation, which resulted eventually in the whole Protestant branch of Christianity. This all started in 1517.

What is an example of a protest?

The Whiskey Rebellion: When Congress imposed a tax on all whiskey things didn't look to good for the farmers. They worked and got paid for creating whiskey by reproducing the corn. Farmers organized protests and refused to pay for the tax. Also in 1794, there were officials on the western side of Pennsylvania who were trying to collect this tax. Farmers head out to Pittsburgh and eventually, this event was known as the Whiskey Rebellion.Washington responded immediately to this crisis and left to Pennsylvania and later pardoned the leaders of the rebellion. This event tested the will of the new gov. Washington's forceful explanation showed the Americans that armed rebellion wasn't acceptable in a republic.

What do anti-capitalist protesters actually want?

They want to be able to live off the effort and productivity of others. They have an entitlement mentality, which they may describe as a desire for "equality" or "level playing field" or "equal opportunity". What they actually mean is that they want to get stuff they haven't earned or paid for.

If asked, this point of view is typically framed in statements like "A small number of people control most of the wealth", "Bankers and big business owners are corrupt and get away with crime", and/or "Capitalists are only about making as much money as possible, without concern for anything else or anyone else's wellbeing."

The first statement is true. It has always been true historically, and will always continue to be true. It's a natural consequence of how productive economies work. Not everyone can be a business owner, or an entrepreneur, or a successful broker. These things take a certain mixture of talent, ambition, education, and luck. There is nothing inappropriate about a person getting rich from their own hard work and ideas.

The second statement is logically flawed. Being a capitalist does not inevitably lead to being a criminal. But crime committed by wealthy businessmen has a tendency to become very visible because it winds up affecting (and sometimes financially ruining) a large number of innocent people. Bernie Madoff is one example of this. The way he conducted business was fraudulent, and does not represent the way capitalism works.

The third statement represents a fundamental misunderstanding of what capitalism is. If a person's sincere goal is to provide a product or service in exchange for money, it would make no sense to do anything that would screw up the possibility of maximizing profit. Making bad products drives customers away and ruins the brand reputation. Fraud does the same thing, and also may end up with someone being criminally charged. To make a product/service that people want and are happy with is the best situation because everyone benefits to the greatest extent possible and everyone is happy.

The solution that many anti-capitalists propose usually includes higher taxes on people who make more money, and additional government regulation on what businesses are allowed to do. In the case of higher taxes, this money would ideally be used to fund additional govt welfare programs.

Some such protesters are just anarchists or nihilists. These people believe in chaos rather than order, destruction rather than creation. They tend to be anti-govt as such, and resist concepts like laws.

It's also important to keep in mind that some people who go to protests don't actually care about the reason for the protest. They just like to go to protests and feel important and get on TV. There is also a phenomenon of organizations hiring groups of people from other areas to come to a protest, to make the protest look bigger than it really is. This phenomenon is very real, and practiced by a variety of organizations across the political spectrum.

What happened in Soweto in 1976?

Black children are taught in Afrikaans, a language they don't understand. The children therefore protest and the police retaliate with bullets and teargas.

The children march down the streets in big numbers. They were protesting peacefully. The police then sent down tear-gas with helicopters and big trucks were driving down the roads with the police firing from them.

The ruthless long-shots shot a 9 yr old girl and a 5 yr old boy. They died instantly. Women were running out of their houses screaming "STOP SHOOTING OUR CHILDREN!!!! STOP SHOOTING OUR CHILDREN!!!!!" The whites showed their devious side of hell while they massacred the blacks. The enraging thing is that while they were shooting at the blacks there was a white person on the blacks' side and the police stopped and let her through saying "STOP!!! That's a white girl! Let her through, let her through!" The bloodthirsty vampires stopped their slaughtering because "one of their own kinds" was amongst the people they were shooting.

The harmless, unarmed, helpless blacks were just saying they didn't want to be taught in Afrikaans! How is that wrong!? It isn't! One black woman quotes "We didn't mean to start out violent, but when the white police started terrorising us with bullets and teargas we retreated. Some threw stones and others started burning and looting. They started it and we finished it!!!!"

Also, the whites were being hypocritical by slaughtering the blacks with their unholy demonology of arcane destruction. They would find it dishonourable if they went into war with massive tanks and aeroplanes while the opposing team only had spears. They were doing worse to the blacks and some even went to the extent to think it was an act of honour!
