Check the owner's manual. If you're lucky, sometimes the dealer or former owner will have written down the code number somewhere in the manual (inside the front cover or on the page that describes the radio operation are favorite places). IF NOT: You will need to retrieve the radio serial number. On SOME radios you can do this by holding down both the number 1 and 6 buttons simultaneously as you turn on the radio. If you have one of those radios, the serial number will appear in the tuning window when you turn it on. IF NOT: You will need to loosen the radio and slide it far enough out of the dashboard in order to get the serial number off the plate that is affixed either on the back, or the bottom of the radio case. When you have gotten the serial number - either call the Honda Customer Service 800 number, or stop by your local Honda dealer and give them the serial number and they should be able to give you the anti-theft security code for your radio. WRITE IT DOWN SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU WON"T FORGET IT! This will happen every time the battery is disconnected or goes dead.

Sometimes the radio code may also be on a sticker on the top of the inside of the glove compartment. It's 5 digits long.

In that generation of Civic, the factory keyless remote system resides within the radio head unit. It is also common that the volume knob begins to fail after 15 years in service (my 96 Civic Hx radio knob is starting to go as well). However, although it is true that the keyless entry unit is housed within the head unit, it is not affected by the operation or lack of operation of the volume control knob. These are the steps I would take, in this order, to troubleshoot this problem.

1. The key may have become unprogrammed for some reason. To reprogram the key, follow these steps.

* Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. * Press and continue to hold the Valet-Disarm button, a small inconspicuous button located on the radio head unit in-between the AM/FM and CD/TAPE buttons. * Wait for the door locks to cycle. This is notification that the remote entry system is now in reprogramming mode. Continue to hold the Valet-Disarm button. * Within 5 seconds of this notification, press either one of the LOCK or UNLOCK buttons on your remote. The door locks will once again cycle as notification of an accepted keyless entry code. Continue to hold the Valet-Disarm button. * If you have any other remotes, press the LOCK or UNLOCK buttons to program those as well. When you have reprogrammed all remotes, release the Valet-Disarm button to complete the process.

2. If reprogramming does not solve the problem, replace the batteries of the remotes. Instructions are on the back side of the remote. After replacing the batteries, follow the reprogramming steps again.

3. If your remote entry system is still unresponsive, the easiest step for most individuals would be to visit your local dealer for assistance. If possible, ask a technician to show you how the process is done. They may not charge you, and you will gain the know-how for possible future events.

There shouldn't be any correlation between the two because I have a 95 Civic EX with a remote start and mine works great and the volume knob does sometimes malfunction. Try to clean your deck or radio; it helps. With a remote start I'm guessing you live in a colder climate; that also has a slight effect on how your car functions overall. Hope I helped.

The code is located inside the glove box on the door. Been there and totally bought a whole new system and friend showed me where it was!! Good luck!

Depending on the trim level and year, you may need to start by removing the knob from the top of the gearshift. It is secured by a set scew (small torx head - T15 I think) facing the front of the car. If your floor console shift box trim overlaps the dash panels (most do), unsnap and remove the shift box trim (the plastic "box" over the gearshift). It's one piece and is just snapped into place. On either side of the center console there are wing-shaped trim panels. Remove the trim ring from the ignition switch (left panel) and then unsnap and remove both panels. This exposes the screws that hold the dash components in place. If you are replacing the radio with an aftermarket unit, you will need a dash installation kit. This is a plastic shell that bolts into the factory fasteners and supports the new unit. Best one is the Metra 99-6506. Usually not in stock, because it only fits Pacificas. But it fits beautifully. Around 20 bucks. You will also need adapter harnesses for the new head unit and the antenna cable. If you are cutting into the factory wiring harnesses, though, it's best that you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start. If you do disconnect the battery, you will need to re-calibrate your front power windows and your steering angle sensor. Don't be alarmed. It's so simple even a Chrysler technician can do it. After reconnecting the battery (radio work completed), turn the engine on and move both front windows to the haf-up position (not critical). Turn off, wait 10 seconds, and turn key to ON without starting the car. Run drivers window all the way up and hold the switch up for 3 full seconds after it stops moving. Then run it all the way down and hold for 3 seconds. Run it back up and hold 3 seconds more. Repeat for passenger side. Start the car in Park. Without touching the brake or the shifter, turn the steering wheel full stop to the left and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat for the right side. Center the wheels and turn off the engine. Done. Go down to the parts store or Wal-Mart and buy a radio puller. It is two horse shoe shaped wires with little notches on the ends. You put the pullers into the holes in the face of the radio. There should be two on the right and two on the left, above and below each other. Push them in until they lock in and then just pull out. You may have to spread the pullers toward the outside to get a good bite on the radio. Then, you just pull out and the radio slides out. Then unplug the wires from the back.

With the radio turned off, you press the SET key, then using the Volume and Tune buttons, you set the time. Once set, press the set button, and your done.

To "come on like gangbusters" is a reference to the old radio show of the same name "Gangbusters". It was an early law enforcement cops and robbers type show.It made a try on TV, as did many radio shows. but did not last too long - just a few seasons. The opening sound bite of the show was the sound of tramping feet, as if an army were marching into your living room, followed by the sound of police vehicle sirens.( The TV version included a closeup of marching feet, followed by a fleet of cop cars driving out a garage, with lights blazing and sirens wailing.) The sound image was that of a whole army of police converging on the scene to get the criminal. So, "like gangbusters" means to go all out with maximum force to accomplish one's goal.

Use the key to unlock the passenger side door.

There is a plastic card in the owner's manual with the 4 digit radio code. Turn on radio, enter code and it will reset and play.

If you cannot find the card, try to conmtact prior owner. If no luck, contact service department where car has been repaired and they should have it in their computer.

After that, email vin # to Jaguar corporation and see if they have it.

Often you will find it written on a piece of paper stuck to the underside of you engine hood. It is a 4 digit code. Be careful entering the code as you will only get 3 chances, It will then lock you out for 24 hours before you can try again.

the Dakota is a single dash. start by adjusting your steering wheel all the way down and shift to low gear. now you can start to pull the top left corner of the front dash. the whole thing is clips only. and for the wiring use a wiring harness makes it easier. from scosche the part is bbcro1ab. there is 3 plugs. 1 flat black and 1 flat gray. 3rd is a single wire. that's your ground wire. if you have the infinity system make sure you hook up the blue wire(amp turn on)from the radio to the blue wire of the scosche harness. the harness you can get from walmart and the mounting kit for under $20. job time is about 30 mins
