Why is smoke coming from the oil filler cap when engine running on my Saab 93?

This is a normal result of running the engine. Hot oil, or most any hot liquid, will vaporize to some extent depending on the temperature and pressure involved. The oil pump forces the oil through the engine passageways at about 50 psi (more or less) so that all moving parts are lubricated. The oil becomes heated through the friction of the moving parts, to around 250 degrees F. What you are seeing is the vaporization of the oil.

How do you change a wheel bearing in a Saab?

Pretty much the way you change a wheel bearing in any car... remove the old one, install the new one. In order to give a proper answer, however, we need to know more. Year and model? Front or rear? I recently replaced a rear bearing on my Classic 900. 1. Jack up the car and remove the wheel. Place jack stands under the car. 2. Remove the caliper. If the line is not disconnected, hang the caliper from the suspension. 3. Remove the brake disc. There are two screws that hold the disc in place and an impact screwdriver may be needed to remove them. 4. Remove the hub cap, the small cover over the axle hub. Remove the axle nut. Remove the bearing housing. 5. The new bearing comes installed in a new bearing housing. Slide it into place. Install a new axle nut and torque to 200 ft.lbs. 6. Re-install everything else.

Can anyone tell me where the fuel tank is located on a Saab 9000?

Well I have a Saab 900. If you are referring to what side the tank is on, its the passenger side which took me a long long time to get used to. Saab always has to do something unique(and usually impractical) but if that's not what your talking about, on my 900 it is on the passenger side just in front of the rear axle.

How many saabs were sold in 2008?

How do you replace the water pump on a Saab 900?

You don't specify a year, but I will presume you mean the Classic 900 (1979-93). The '79-'80 models had the B engine with the water pump in the engine block. The H engine (8-valve) and B202 (16-valve) have the water pump mounted at the front of the engine, near the firewall (Saab engines are installed reverse of most cars). Most manuals specify removing the air conditioning compressor to access the water pump, but it can be replaced without that step.

1) Loosen the drive belts by loosening the alternator. 2) Remove the pulley on the water pump. 4 10mm bolts. 3) Remove the water pump. 4) Install new gasket and new water pump. Use only a water pump with a cast impeller, not one with a pressed steel impeller. The latter does not provide proper flow for cooling. 5) Install the pulley, install the belts, tighten the alternator.

How do you use the cruise control on a 1996 Saab 900 SE?

took me a while to figure it out, as it is almost exactly opposite the cruise control on my Chevy pickup. To turn it on, press the lever on the left hand stalk toward the right (toward the steering column). This will turn on the cruise control. Set your initial speed by pressing the button on the end of the stalk. Unlike my pickup, to increase speed hold the button in. To coast and reset to a slower speed hold the switch to the right.

Unlike American cars, the cruise light on the dashboard just tells you the cruise control is turned on...it does not mean it's engaged! So, even if you hit the brakes which disengages it, the cruise light will be on until you either turn off the car, or deliberately turn it off by pushing the switch on the left hand stalk to the left.

Hope this helps. (BTW, there is a SLIGHT chance I have reversed which increases speed (button on end or switch) and which coasts and decreases it...I now automatically adjust as I move from vehicle to vehicle, but as I'm not driving either at the moment (aren't you glad?) I may have just written it up backwards.) But you get the idea (I hope.)

How do you remove the passenger side windows in a 1984 Saab 900?

Remove the door panel/handle/surround

Roll the window down if possible

Remove the trim strips - inside & out -CAREFULLY - they just pop off the top of the door but it is scary at first

Loosen the two screws inside the channel on the regulator holding the window to the regulator - they will probably be quite tight

Rotate the glass and remove it from the door square end - back - first

Reverse the procedure to re-install and be sure you pay attention to where everything goes.

Good luck

Why can't you use Bosch Platinum-4 plugs on a 1997 Saab 900 Turbo?

You can use Bosch Platinum spark plugs because they will fit into the holes, but you will give up reliability and driveability. For some reason, the Bosch plugs do not play well with the Saab ignition/fuel systems. Stick with the factory recommendation for optimum economy and driveability.

Answerbecause of the Direct Ignition Unit. it sends MAX. 40,000 volts into the plugs to clean them at shutdown and its loaded with circuit boards. that's why it says only to use "resistor plugs", so engergy can not travel back threw the plugs and fry the unit. i would assume then that the bosch platinum are not of the resistor type. but i could be wrong, since switching to Saab i miss bosch products. I worked on SAAB"s for 18 years if you don't use the factory spark plug "NGK" you'll have problems-for some reason this car only likes factory orginal. and this goes for other auto makers. Never Never ever use "auto lite"because they auta light

What kind of oil should you use for a 1988 Saab?

What will make a 99 Saab not start have changed the battery and the spark plugs and not the fuel pump?

Yo, im in a similar case senario, but i drive a 86 Nissan pickup and not a Saab. You have to be more specific on what's happening. Pull one of the spark plug wires off the spark plug and hold it 1/8 of an inch from a bare metal part of the engine and have someone try the ignition. If it sparks, you have fire and problems are fuel ratio or vacuum lines or worse. If not your lookin at maybe distributor cap and rotor if applicable or maybe just the distributor-less wires.

Convertible top on SL 500 is stuck?

Stuck as in what? Is it like not closing/opening, or is it literally stuck in between stages? If its stuck half way, usually starting the car again or pressing the button for longer will start it again, otherwise get a repair center to look at it.

Where is Saab fuse box located?

It depends on the year and model. On the model 99 (1969-84), it was located in the engine compartment on the right side. On the model 900 (1979-93) is was on the left side atop the left front fender. On the 9000 (1986-98) the main fuse panel is in the passenger compartment.

How do you fill convertible fluid in a Saab 9 3 convertible?

That's a great question!!! can't find this info anywhere!!!

If it's an '04 - '10 you must remove the passenger's side trunk liner which entails removing the front liner and the trunk to top partition. There are just a bunch of clips with centers that you push in about 1/8 inch then pull the clip out and 6 Torx head screws. The 2 black clips that attach the side liner to the floor are christmes tree type and may break. It's pretty obvious once the side liner is removed. Uses chf 11s hydraulic oil. I found some at a local import parts store.
