I think that the irony is that in the begining, they both thought that money was everything. And ultimately the banker may have won the money but he really lost in life because he was still irrational and young as he was in the beginning, while the lawyer chose to disregard the money because he had gained wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the world! So the irony is that the banker, who "won" didn't really win at all. He was still trapped in society.

There are scientists who still believe this to be possible. There has really been no clear evidence to indicate that they are mutually exclusive. Only opinions, assumptions and conjecture that varies depending on the scientist you are talking to. There has been nothing discovered by science that would indicate there not being an intelligent designer. There have, however, been many discoveries that do point convincingly to intelligent design.

There are many famous scientists in the U.S. and worldwide. A few examples of famous scientists are as follows: Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Marie Currie, Galileo Galilei, James Clerk Maxwell, Charles Darwin, and Max Born.

Two of them would be the Nobel laureates, Norman Borlaug and Thomas Cech, agricultural scientist and chemist respectively, from the wikipedia list of people from Iowa.

What distinguishes science from irrational belief is that scientific theories must be falsifiable. Falsifiability requires testing predictions which are made using scientific theory. A prediction that checks out adds support to the theory whereas a prediction that does not check out means that either the theory is faulty and needs modification (or scrapping), or that the theory was not used properly in making the prediction.
