What is the difference between self defense and retaliation?

Self-defense is a thing that happens in the moment. You defend yourself with only necessary force at the time you are assailed. Retaliation is after the fact. Say someone beat you up & left you lying in the street, and then they left the scene, maybe to a bar or back to their home. If you track them down and try to hurt them for what they did to you, that is retaliation.

Is It A Good Idea to Avail Self Defense Classes in Lakewood CO?

Yeah, signing up for the Martial Arts Lakewood CO classes can definitely be a good idea if you are looking to train yourself well enough in self defense. I personally benefitted a great deal from attending the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes held at The Sanctuary, a well known fitness center in Lakewood. The classes took place for three days in a week for two to three hours and helped me to learn how to overcome possible attackers on the street using a combination of leverage and technique.

What was a Roman turtle?

One of the Romans most famous formations was the Tortoise or Turtle; this was where they marched in a rectangular formation. The people at the front would hold their shields, which were rectangular, in front of them where as the people at the side would hold their shields to the side which was open to attack. The soldiers in the middle of the rectangle would hold their shields over their heads, creating a box with all the men inside. This was a very strong, tight formation and the soldiers could, if they had been invented by then, hold a bulldozer up on top of them. They could march up to a fort in that formation and not one of them would get hurt. The defenders, rather than using ranged weapons, would have to charge them. The Romans, even though it was not the best form of attack, could jab their swords out of the box while being protected by their shields.

How effective was a chaimail coif?

Although there is no better or worse in terms of whether an iron helmet or iron chainmail coif was more effective, and how effective coifs were in general. There are clear factors to look at however:

- A helmet is more solid than a coif, so injuries from direct hits are better protected by a helmet, but at the same time, a coif can merge quite seamlessly with a chainmail shirt, and with no gaps except the front of the face. This means for a change in dynamics in close combat, as there are different exposed areas for each.

- A maille coif is much more easily repaired than a helmet, if some rings are hacked out of a coif, then the user need only fix the hole with some new rings and rivet them back together again, whereas damage to a helmet could mean the need to fix the dent with a smith or even needing to remake it from scratch with severe enough damage.

- Maille coifs were more expensive than dark-age helmets, but were cheaper than advanced Medieval helmets, with more expensive armour used as a utilitarian fashion statement by noblemen.

- Sometimes, both are combined, with solid helmets having chainmail hanging off it, providing solid skull protection, but also flexible neck protection.

- Maille in general protects superbly against sword cuts, and axe chops (apart from the blunt force trauma behind them). Stabs and shots unfortunately would separate the rings and pierce through. Later Medieval arming swords had finer thrusting points, specifically to thrust through gaps in plate armour, and pierce easily through chainmail underneath it or chainmail on the body instead of it.

How can tai chi help defend yourself?

The best source is your instructor. S/he can show you the application of the moves in a combat situation.

Tai chi is an art of fluidity and a good self defense skill. because tai chi is known for its fluidity, brutal straight on attacks doesn't work on the user (if they know how to use tai chi). is like hitting water.

Tai chi 2nd defense skill is its healing ability during combat. this is no joke or fiction. the fluid movement of the body allows you to minimize the pain by transferring the attack to throughout the body. Wwhen you hit water, the water transfer the energy from your attacks to throughout the water body.

Tai chi attacks are normally hard yet soft (like a whip). It all depends on the user. Tai chi could be useless if the user is not committed into it. Tai chi requires a lot of patient.

How do you have to punch to make someone bleed from the nose in a fight?

It depends on the individual. There are some that it takes just a flick from a finger to start it bleeding, others are going to take a very hard punch to break the nose to cause it to bleed.

But note that making your opponent bleed is never a good result. You can risk your own health and that of others by adding the contamination factor in. Not a good aspect of self-defense.

Where is a diagram of Pressure points for self defense?

Head to Borders bookstore and look around the Fitness section for a decent martial arts book. Pressure point diagrams are everywhere there. Now I will admit that I don't agree with every single pressure point diagram. But the obvious ones are hard to argue. (bridge of nose, temple, brachial plexus tie-in, solarplexus, etc etc etc.)

----------------------

The term 'pressure points' is somewhat misleading. For self defense purposes, if you cannot escape and are being attacked by someone who is determined to kill you, then you may have to damage and destroy parts of your attackers body. These are vulnerable points, and are all the places you are NOT allowed to hit during a boxing match or a wrestling bout. These places are forbidden, even in a mixed-martial arts or cage fight because they do serious, permanent damage. Vulnerable points include joints on the arms and legs, which can be targeted and broken. Ear drums can be ruptured, eyes can be poked out etc.

I hold a black belt in Aikido and I can do joint and pain locks too. But I know that persons who are under the influence of certain drugs and alcohol sometimes do not feel any pain (until maybe the next day), and to stop them you need more than a pain compliance hold.

When you are trying to control some stoned beserker and the capsicum spray or stun gun won't work on him, that's when you are glad to be able to smash something on his body with a baton.

If you can break something, then maybe you can stop the guy before someone gets killed. Hitting little pressure points sounds cute in theory, but when the adrenaline is pumping and your buddies are being hurt, that's when boots and batons get used.

I just remind every one something haven't you hit yourself in the elbow in one of this points and you feel it in all the arm? well that's a pressure point. Now, most of them are tricky, I think they are not suitable for self-defense because I can hit an elbow many times and will not be hitting the precise point. When fighting the point is in movement, to difficult to be accurate but the effect of each one its real.

Why does the argument of self-defense absolve a defendant of criminal liability?

The argument of self-defense absolves a defendant of criminal liability because it is based on the premise that the defendant acted to protect themselves from imminent harm. If the use of force was necessary and proportionate to the threat faced, it is considered justified under the law. This legal principle acknowledges the right to preserve one's life and safety, thereby excusing what would otherwise be considered a criminal act. However, the specifics of self-defense laws can vary by jurisdiction, including requirements for reasonable belief and proportional response.

Can the police take my gun if u shot someone in a personal defense?

Even in a situation where you shoot some one in self defense the police must take control of your gun. Receiving the gun back will depend on the full out come of the situation.

What to say to someone who is self harming?

you say that your always there for them. they need to know that someone, anyone is there. they feel alone, and misunderstood. you do NOT yell at them, or tell them to "just stop". that will only put more pressure on them. dont say that your mad at them, that will get them upset. coming from a self harmer, i know what they want. oh yeah and DO NOT call them "emo". "emo" is not cutting, its just a style. the key to talking to them is, just dont make them feel bad and make sure that they know that your there for them.
