What makes a 1990 subaru legacy l run hot?

Low coolant cooling fans not working thermostat not opening radiator dirty or plugged water pump not working system "airbound" defective radiator cap hoses collapsing

Where is the thermostat on a 1999 subaru legacy 2.2?

laying on the ground, directly under the front bumper, you'll see a thick hose. This hose is clamped and connected by two 10mm screws. Unscrew and have a drain pan ready for draining coolant. Move hose out of the way and there's your thermostat. What kind of problems are you having?

How do you replace the water pump on a 1996 Nissan Pathfiner?

I would suggest you invest in a repair manual. It cost around $12 at most auto parts stores, and will contain the info you need to complete this repair and many others. It will pay for itself with this one repair

AnswerYep, It is big job; thus, it requires a manual. The timing belt has to be removed, and, well, this requires pictures/diagrams, etc.. But it isn't very hard, just takes some time. Pretty much every time I change the timing belt, I change the pump. Its happened to me twice, that I change the belt, only to have to change the pump a year or 2 later.

Can a 1998 Subaru Legacy water pump be faulty with no signs of leaking?

yes it could be faulty without leaking , the impellor on the back could of come away and not be pumping water around the engine , to check this take the radiator cap off and have a look if the water goes up and down when you excellorate the engine , if it does the must be a nother problem

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1996 Subaru Legacy?

Open up the hood, and go in behind the fixture where the light is located. Twist the socket a quarter turn counter clockwise, and pull out the socket. Grab the bulb, and pull it straight out. To replace the new bulb, never touch it with your bare fingers, as this will greatly shorten the bulb's life, if it even work's at all. Use a tissue or something else in that order to handle the new bulb. Push the new bulb into the socket, put the socket back into the housing, and twist a quarter turn clockwise to secure the socket into the fixture

Actually, there is a small error in this answer above. I just replaced a bulb. You do not twist the socket a quarter of a turn on my 05 Outback Sedan. First, you twist the large plastic cover over the socket a quarter of a turn and remove it to get to the socket. Then, the socket has a funny looking clamp that goes around that back that has to be unclipped and swung out of the way, then the socket pulls straight out giving access to the bulb. (Rich, May 2015)

I have a Subaru Legacy GX 1996 and the procedure is slightly different. Open the hood and go to the back of the unit. Don't twist the rubber socket, just pull it straight off. A large rubber seal will then fall off leaving the back of the bulb exposed. Its fixed in place with a wire that can be unhooked (don't unscrew the screw that holds the wire in place) and the bulb slips out. Replace bulb and put back together.

How do you remove an auto Subaru legacy head unit?

By "Head Unit" I assume you are referring to the cylinder head. I am currently trying to remove mine due to a burnt exhaust valve, which I will have ground and surfaced at a local machine shop. As this procedure is not something anyone with a life would try to describe by writing down in this format, I'd suggest you buy the appropriate manual for your make and model (Haynes is good) and go from there. Why are you removing the head? This is not a simple job, so the fact that you even asked the question implies that you don't really know what you are getting into. Good luck. Zaphod Beeblebrox Zaphod above obviously hasn't a clue, I'd say the person who asked the question knows exactly what he's getting into as what he actually wants to do is remove the stereo which is commonly known in the audio industry as a 'Head Unit'

Will the stock 17 inch wheels from a 2006 Subaru WRX fit a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i without any problems?

Switching WheelsAll late model Subaru wheels are 5lugX100mm, so the wheels themselves will "fit", where you will run into trouble is with the tires. The early cars pretty well max out at 205 55 15" (standard on the "sport" models was 195 60 15") this will pretty well fill the wheel well and not rub on the chassis while turning, anything bigger will be trial and error, maybe something 205 45 17" might be the way to go, or try, but if you want something definite go with what is known to work.

How do you replace the driver's side mirror on a 1996 Subaru Outback Legacy Wagon?

Replace '96 Subaru Outback Side MirrorI just did this today.

1) Remove the triangular plastic cover piece on the inside of the door directly behind the mirror. This is a snap-on piece that is held in place by three plastic tabs that are part of this piece. Start by gently prying the piece away from the door so you can see the tabs, then jiggle and pry the piece loose taking care not to snap off any of the tabs.

2) This will expose another triangular piece of plastic beneath. This piece is attached to the door and should remain in place. You will see three Phillips head screws in three recessed in holes. The lowest of the three is behind a plastic cap. To get at two of these screws, you'll have to remove, or partially detach the inside door panel and a piece of weather stripping. I was able to access the two tricky screws by removing one plastic door panel fastener and then pulling the door panel away in the area immediately adjacent to the mirror. If you're comfortable removing the entire door panel, by all means go ahead and do so, but I was reluctant to expand he scope of the project.

3) On the mirror, there are three corresponding plastic studs that receive these three screws. Once the screws are removed, the mirror will fall away. Reach inside the loosened door panel and disconnect the white heater wire connector and the larger, brownish power motor adjustment connector. This one is a little bit tricky and requires releasing the connector clip with a small screw driver.

4) Note the location of the rubber and foam gasket materials so you can get these right when you re-install the new mirror.

Good luck!

this works on a legacy 1995 250T.

1)Open the drivers door.

2)insert and turn key to on position.

3)lift and hold drivers door handle for about 5 seconds. car will give a long beep.

4)make up a code ie. lift the handle and let it go for the number one. do it twice in succession for two etc. wait fot the beep at the end of each number.

5)input 4 numbers. car does not accept 1,1,1,1

6)the car will beep a few times.

7)repeat your code.

8)the car should now be programed. 9)take out key, close door and lock, give the code a go.

10)if you stuf up trying, just lift the handle a few times until the car does abit longer beep.
