How do you change both belts on a Suzuki Sidekick?

I just got done doing this on mine! be aware though, mine dosen't have air conditioning! and it is a 97 jx! First, you have to loosen the power steering pump, it has a swing bolt on top and a short bolt located right behind the power steering pully. You will need a 3/8 socket wrench with a 12mm socket and fit it between the spaces on the pulley as the bolt is only accessed from the front of the pump. this bolt is just under the pulley shaft. You can see the bolt from under the car. My pump was set at the lowest point of swing and then had a belt put on (factory). I had to pry it off! I replaced it with the next size up so that putting on the new one would be no problem. The other belt is easier, you have to loosen the top swing bolt on the alternator and the bottom bolt, then just loosen the alternator and the belt will come off. NOTE: you need to use the 3/8 on this one too and the 12mm socket if you can, but be aware that the engine mount is right in front of the bottom bolt and gives you very little room for movement you will need to be on that bolt straight or you risk rounding off the bolt. these bolts seem pretty soft. well i because i didnt have this info, i found out the hard way!!!!!!!!!

Can AC be installed in a 1995 Suzuki Sidekick JX 4 door and how much would it cost?

It is possible.

Generally the AC was an aftermarket add on kit even from the 'factory'. It is one of the perks the dealer here in the US gets to cash in on.

As for cost, it will be expensive compared to the value of the vehicle. I am guessing $600-$1000. I doubt you could get the parts new anymore. It may get a little cheaper with a universal kit or cheaper still with used equipment.

If you consider used be sure you get a system that uses freon 134A NOT freon 12 as it is not available anymore except as a bastardized hybrid gas from Russia or some place and it is somewhat flammable.

sure i can, in fact all cars can be.

but you failed to say

YOU DO?

or someone else do?,, kinda important that.? no?

I think if you were to get the parts used for around $200 to $300 then I am quite sure you could find someone to put them on for an additional $400 to $800 (probably a lot less). So it becomes obvious what the answer is!

If you buy a NEW system either Universal or design specific it may cost substantially more and to come in at the high end around $1000 would be possible.

Certainly doing the work yourself would be substantially cheaper.

many on our forum , get the parts off a donor car and then install it

this includes the harness and all dash parts for A/C (long hard work that. no?)

then they overhaul it , and last take it in to have it , pumped down then filled.

new compressor , new flex hoses, Reciever dryer and expansion valve.

What does a machine shop do when machineing a head?

When machining a head basically. Basically just shaves off the head to increase combustion or give you higher compression. This is only a partial answer.

A machine shop will check the head for straightness. If necessary the shop will mill the minimum clean-up to straighten the combustion face (the part that sits on the block) of the head. Usually they will hot tank the heads to remove carbon and grease. Then most shops will check the valve seats and regrind them as necessary. The will also check the valve quides to see if they are worn. If they are they will replace or knurl them to bring them back to specification for stem slop. They should check your valve springs for proper height and check the valves to make sure the stems aren't to worn or bent. If a person desires they will mill the heads to increase the compression ration of the engine. They will also offer services where they check valve to piston clearance on heavily milled heads. Most shops will offer dye penetrant or magnafluxing services to check for cracks in the head (especially important for aluminum heads). They will also install hardened valve seats on older cylinder heads.

What is the widest tire you can put on a Geo Tracker?

I have 13.5 inch wide tires with Toyota axles under my truck. When I was running stock running gear i ran 31x10.5 wide but I've seen people run 33x12.5 but I don't recommend it, unless you like repairing differentials.

Where is the shift lockout switch on a 96 Suzuki Sidekick with auto transmission Vehicle will not shift out of park most of the time Also is it possible to bypass this switch Thanks for any help?

It's in the under the center console in front of the gear shifter. The switch will release when the brake pedal is pushed. My girlfriends car does something similar it just won't go into park and stay there so you can't take the keys out. I pulled it out and cleaned it up a bit and it seems to work now. As for overriding it, I wouldn't do it because it's a safety feature of the car. If it becomes too much of a pain check around to see how much a new one is and check some junkyards to see if you can get one there. It will definitely save money doing that.

How do you replace the gas tank on 1994 Sidekick?

If you don't know where the oil dipstick is this is not for YOU! you must remove the metal guard plate that SHARES the same 4 bolts that holds the tank in place. unscrew the hose 5/16 clamp w/ crescent that is connected to 1 1/2 hose from top of tank to gas spout you must use extreme caution not to break or tear old dry rotted fuel lines unclamp 2 electrical wires, 1 tension clamp need small pliers, and one 1/4" hose clamp, 4 #2 Phillips screws hold the pump in place "be gentle" AND it would speed things up later if you mark things. i recommend using a jack stand in middle of tank for support and drink a BEER as a cigarette replacement, it cant hurt! the tank will be off by now, get the used or rebuilt tank and just take only what u have to apart and put back in the order u disconnect everything. To avoid mass confusion and more than 20 cuss words keep it at a 6 pack.

I ,love and hate my sidekick because it is unique, it can be fun to screw around and work on it tune it up and add on, but it had some bad designing on parts like 5 speed clutch cable, front grill, headlight assembly to name a few.

so take routine maintenance seriously.
