Hamas is a Palestinian Sunni Islamic or Islamist political party that governs the Gaza Strip and the largest and most influential Palestinian militant movement along with the more moderate Fatah party and has a military wing called the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Hamas is viewed by most Western analysts as an obstacle to the Arab-Israeli peace process and the goal of a two-state solution. As a result, Western nations, including the United States, have tried to embolden the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority while isolating Hamas, which has historically kept strong ties to Iran.

Hamas was founded by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Palestinian spiritual leader who became an activist in the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood after dedicating his early life to Islamic scholarship in Cairo. Beginning in the late 1960s, Yassin preached and performed charitable work in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, both of which were seized by Israeli forces following the 1967 Six-Day War. In 1973, he established al-Mujamma' al-Islami (the Islamic Center) to coordinate the Brotherhood's political activities in Gaza.

Hamas' primary base of popular support is in the Gaza Strip, where it has maintained de facto control since its 2006, when it surprised many observers by winning the majority of seats in the Palestinian parliament. Hamas ousted the remnants of Fatah from Gaza by force in early 2007, and the new Hamas-led government was summarily dismissed by PA president and Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas. The result of the bloodshed was a de facto geographic division of Palestinian-held territory, with Hamas holding sway in Gaza and Fatah maintaining the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority government in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

No. Not all of them. Every nation has the right to take up arms against the invaders and usurpers. The Afghans first fought against Russia and defeated her with the help of America. Now they have taken up arms agaisnt NATO forces which are killing them mercilessly, destroying their villages and cities. Terrorism is not associated with any religion or nation. Terrorists are found because there is INUSTICE around us. There is lack of tolerance. We have divided ourselves on the basis of caste, color, creed, geographical bounds etc. Terrorists are the product of re-action of crulty, suppression, maltreatment, insult, and disgrace done to their nation, relatives or to them. They want revenge. Had there been the rule of Justice, there would have been no terrorists. When we suppress a nation, tribe or people, occupy their lands and destroy their houses and belongings, may be they have no alternative but to avenge themselves on the oppressors and sometimes on even innocent people. History shows Freedom Fighters termed as 'Terrorist' by the oppressors/invaders but heroes by their own nation. The Americans who fought against the British to win their freedom were called terroriss. The Irish people fighting against UK are still called terrorists. The Negroes were once called terrorists by the whie people who occupied their lands and kept them in slavery for many decades. So, it is mostly from which angle you see things and by which yardstick you measure others. No religious group can claim to be 'clean' and 'just' in this regard.

Most likely it was once terrific, but over time that adjective came to have a positive connotation, except in rare cases such as a terrific explosion, storm, earthquake, etc.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization coordinated the FIRST INTIFADA from 1987-1993 as a form of resistance to Israeli Military Authorities in the Palestinian Territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Certainly, there have been numerous terrorist groups throughout European History.

Probably the most famous and persistent of these groups was the Irish Republican Army. This group was campaigning for the liberation of Ireland (especially the counties of Ulster) through the use of assassinations of public officials, car bombs, public incitement, and wanton aggression. Thankfully, the IRA is no longer active in this military capacity.

Another famous European terrorist group is Euskadi Ta Askatasuna or Basque Homeland and Freedom, better known as ETA. ETA primarily murdered Spanish public officials, especially during the Spanish transition to democracy in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Nearly 800 policeman and public workers were killed in 1979 and 1980. Although there is a Basque population in France, ETA has rarely perpetrated violence against the French government, but has received a stern French response when it has.
