Where are the spark plugs on a 2001 Toyota Highlander?
The 3.0L 1MZ-FE Engine, California, Highlander Limited V-6 Like many Japanese cars, they are screwed into the top of each cylinder head. The 3 spark plugs closest to the front of the car are recessed deep through the valve cover, so you must first remove the flimsy plastic engine cover (held in with Allen head nuts), and remove the three (3) DIS (Distributor-less Ignition System) Spark Plug Connectors from the Valve Cover. The DIS Spark Plug Connectors are each held in place with a single 6mm bolt (so they don't come loose). If you look down the "Tube", you will see the top of the spark plug. The other three spark plugs are in the rear side valve cover and have the same DIS Spark Plug Connectors and bolts. Unfortunately, the Upper Intake Plenum and Throttle Body must be removed if you need to get to these spark plugs. Also, to remove the Upper Intake Plenum and Throttle Body, the Strut Tower Brace has to to be removed to give you enough room to work.

Where is the transmission located on a 1990 Mazda 323 and how do you change?
Regardless of whether it's a manual or autoamtic, the transaxle (transmission plus final drive) is located on the left side (as you look forward) of the engine. Unless you have the right tools including an engine hoist or transmission jack, jack stands, and floor jack, it's not a job you want to take on. I assume you are replacing the transaxle with a rebuld or new unit. Plan a whole weekend to do this job.
Disconnect the battery, speedometer cable, clutch cable, gear selectro linkage reverse/neutral switch wiring, jack up car, support on stands, remove road wheels, drop the lower control arm bolts, remove the half-shaft nuts, remove the half-shafts (make certain you have a drain pan under the transaxle); remove the starter motor, support the engine, remove the bolts holding the transaxle to the engine, support the transaxle with a floor jack, remove the four bolts that attach the cross-member to the body, pull the transaxle away from the engine and lower the transaxle/crossmember assembly on the floor jack. Dettach the crossmemebr from the transaxle.
When reassembling, make certain all componets, wiring etc are clean; if manual transaxle inspect clutch & flywheel replace if needed, re-surface flywheel if needed. Once reassembled, fill transaxle with new fluid per manufacturer's recommedation; retorque all bolts per shop manual.
Good luck

How do change a timing belt on a 1996 escort?
We really need to know which of the three possible engines you have, but here is a rough outline:If you have a 1.9 or a 2.0 SPI engine (not a 2.0 ZETEc)Jack up the RF corner of the vehicle and remove the RF wheel. Remove the front motor mount located on the rightfender apron and support the engine by the oil pan using a floor jack with a block of wood(You will now be able to jackthe engine up and down as you need to). Remove the serpentine belt and if there is a belt tensioner in the way of the timing cover, remove it too. Remove the crankshaft pulley and remove the timing cover. Remove the old belt, and it is recommended that you replace the water pump at this time as well. Line up the crankshft timing mark(the keyway will be pointing straight up), and line up the camshaft timing mark(an arrow cut into one of thewindows of the gear lines up witha dot on the cylinder head). Install the new belt onto the timing gears. Set the tensioner in place. Turn the engine over two complete rotations of the crankshaft, and then recheck the timing marks for correct alignment. (a little fussing getting the crank back in position is normal.) Getting the marks lined up right here saves a lot of do-over work!. Reasemble the cover, serpenting belt etc. in the reverse order as disassembly.
A 2.0 ZETEC engine requires special tools as there are no timing marks of woodruff keys for the camshafts. The valve cover has to come off, and a special alignment tool used to line up the cams. The crankshaft is lined up using a special tool inserted into the engine block through a holethat is exposed when a plug is removed.
AnswerIt can be difficult even with a strapwrench to get that damper pulley bolt tight during reassembly; without an impact tool. Be sure to use a dab of red locktite on the threads. I almost lost my damper and if the slot for the damper key on the crankshaft were damaged it would've necessitated replacement of the crankshaft!!! By design luckly (damper metal softer than key & crankshaft), all that was damaged was the damper... it was replaced.
