How does a turbo waste gate work?

A waste gate regulates the amount of exhaust gas that spins the internal turbine of a turbocharger based on a predetermined amount of pressure in the system to keep the turbo from continually building boost that is higher than the system can handle. When closed it allows the exhaust to pass over the turbine creating pressure on the cold side of the turbo. With the waste gate open it allows the gas to bypass the turbine stopping pressure buildup.

Is there a 6 speed transmission for a 91 Toyota MR2 non turbo?

Not that i know of, but ! There is a 6-speed in the newer celica GTS model, and that transmission will bolt up to the 2.2 Non Turbo engine in the MR2 as well as the turbo engine... But the problem is getting the shift linkage hooked up, the rear engine has a shift linkage on the front of the transmission, and the FWD has a linkage on the rear of the transmission.

But i am in the process of putting in a and buying a 6-speed Celica transmission

That 6-speed transmission will NOT bolt to a 5sfe, 3sge or 3sgte engine. There are currently no 6 speed options. there might be a 6 speed depending on 09 its not confirmed yet though so keep the fingers crossed

How do you change a light bulb for a fog light on a 1999 trans am?

I just changed the passenger side fog lamp on our 98 TA, I was expecting it to be a chore- but just as mentioned, raise the headlight and the hood, go in behind the headlight, twist and remove. There was no reaching around things, it's straight in, straight out. I didn't even get my hand or arm dirty. It took me 4 times as long to change the headlamp on the vehicle! I had to change both of them on my 98 TA and ended up with cuts and scrapes. The best way is to raise the headlights so you can get one hand through the compartment(top side)and grap the bulb holder. Then its just twist and pull.

Does a 2002 Passat Wagon - 18L-turbo really need premium gas to survive how critical is it to use premium on turbo engines this is your first turbo - thanks?

I have a 2001 1.8T Passat Station Wagon. My (non-dealer) repair shop suggests that premium gas is only required for city driving. When going on a long trip with mostly high speed interstate driving, mid-grade gas is okay according to them. I have been following their advice for the last year and have had no change in gas mileage or performance.

As a once owner of a 2000 Passat wagon, a brother-in-law who has spent over the last 20 years as a VW dealer tech and he too still owns his 2000 Passat wagon 1.8T has never used anything but regular unleaded gas in his car. He says there is no reason that he has ever known or experienced in his many years as a tech and owner to use premium gas in this car. With the 1.8T you should only be using a full synthetic oil. there is no way around this. Using conventional motor oil WILL cause sludge in your engine, void the extended warranty on this engine and cost thousands to fix.

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1993 Toyota MR2?

The thermostat for both the 3S-GTE (2.0T) and 5F-SE (2.2NA) are located on the front of the block next to the oil filter. For the turbo, you have to remove the air intake connectors from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the throtle body. If you have the stock intercooler and fan, the fan may need to be removed so that you have enough clearence to get to the A/C. It also shows removing the cruise control assembly. I uauslly just unbolt it from the side (3 bolts) and flip it onto the valve cover. For both engines, you need to remove the under side plastics, the A/C compressor, idle pulley and associated belt. Don't disconnect the refrigerant line that goes to the A/C, just move the A/C to the side. I have seccusfully tied it to the brace that is directly underneath the A/C (small black tube that runs diagonal on the turbo model) Don't forget to drain the coolant before disconnecting any coolant hoses/fixtures. On both engines the drian is located on the back side of the block, near one of the intake manifold brackets. The turbo also has a bolt going to the thermostat cover that supports the oil dipstick. don't forget to replace that when you wrap thing up.

How do you adjust parking brake on a 1992 Toyota MR2?

Release the handbrake then jack up the car making sure that the wheels are chocked so the car can not move and car is well suported.Take the cover off the bottom of the car around where the handbrake lever is. There is a cable coming from both rear brakes and where they meet there is a theaded bracket with a pivot release thenuts at the back and front of the pivotThen move the nuts front one first towards the front of the car and it should start putting tesion on the two brake cables adjust until you have a satisfactory amount brake. Remember to lock the nuts up to each other so they can't come loose. BE SAFE. mr2s do have quite a lot of travel on the hand brake lever so don't go to tight and end up with the brakes dragging.Good luck
