How do you replace a Toyota Tercel antenna?

For the 1992 and 1994 models (and likely many other years), the antenna is attached to the roof of the vehicle by two Phillips screws. After removing these screws, the unit will slide out of its hole towards the rear of the vehicle.

There should be a translucent white tube where the antenna slides into and a black cable.

The black cable runs through the body of the car to the back of the radio. This can be seen from the passenger's side footwell and reached from the driver's footwell. Detach the cable from the back of the radio and attach a retrieval string or twine to the radio end of the cable.

Remove the antenna assembly from the car roof, allowing the retrieval line to exit out of the mounting hole. Detach the line from the old antenna cable and tie it to the end of the new antenna cable. Use the retrieval line to thread the new cable through the car frame back into the passenger compartment. Detach your guide line and plug the new antenna cable into the radio and screw the new antenna assembly into its mounting hole on the roof.

Why would a 1996 Toyota Tercel have a loud knocking noise and a lot of white smoke at start up after changing the oil and filter?

white smoke means coolant/antifreeze entering the combustion chamber.if this is still hapening it will take a lot of money to fix, and I'll tell you why:

1-blown head gasket2-warped cylinder head3-cracked cylinder head4-cracked engine block(water jackets/passages/ect)

out of all of this possible problems the head gasket will be your cheapest problem. at an auto shop don't be surprise if they ask you for $500+.

here is a simple test that you coul do and find out where the leak is

start by removing 1 sparkplug and have someone crank your engine.you don't have to let the engine run just crank it a few times. start with the center plug. stand clear if you crank the engine and see the white smoke or water condensation come out of the spark plug hole you have found the leak.

this test is mainly for you to use with a v/w type engine so you don't have to spend money fixing both sides if only one has the leak. .

good luck.

How do you replace sparkplugs on a 1996 Toyota tercel and where are they located?

Plugs are located right on top of the motor. The 2 on the left and 2 more under their coil packs on the right. You will need a 10mm socket to remove the screw holding down the coil packs to get to those 2 plugs. Then using a 5/8 inch spark plug socket and an extension simply unscrew the old plugs making sure you also remove the lock washer that was on the plug. Reinstall the new plugs being careful not to cross thread them. Since they sit perfectly vertical on a Tercel motor it's a rather easy install. Check manual for torque specs but its probably around 20 ft/lbs. Don't over tighten. Once the washer is compressed maybe half a turn more is all that's needed. After changing them all put the 10mm bolts back on each coil pack and you are finished. Total time should be no more than 15 min.

How do you find the timing marks on a 1992 Toyota Tercel?

Open the covering for the belt and look closely at the metal area around where the teeth of the belt are. There should be some white markings. There is not much spacing between the belt and the metal area where you will see the marks. The marks were hard for me to see at first.

How do you replace the alternator on a Toyota Tercel?

THE PROCEDURES OUTLINED HERE ARE VALID FOR TOYOTA TERCEL 1987 THRU 1994. 1. Detach the cable from the negative terminal on the battery. CAUTION: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the activation code before disconnecting the battery. 2. Detach the electrical connectors from the alternator. 3. Loosen the alternator adjustment and pivot bolts and detach the drivebelt. 4. Remove the adjustment and pivot bolts from the alternator adjustment bracket. 5. Remove the two bracket-to-water pump bolts and separate the alternator and bracket from the engine. NOTE 1: If you are replacing the alternator, take the old alternator with you when purchasing a replacement unit. Make sure that the new/rebuild unit is identical to the old alternator. Look at the terminals - they should be the same in number, size, and locations as the terminal on the old alternator. Finally look at the identification markings (they will be stamped on the housing or printed on a tag or plaque affixed to the housing. Make sure tha these numbers are the same on both alternators. NOTE 2: Many new/rebuild alternators DO NOT have a pulley installed, so you may have to switch the pulley from the old unit - Some shops will perform this service free of charge.
