Test a pickup coil in a 1992 Toyota tercel?
At this point you have the distributor cap, plug wires, rotor, and ingnition coil removed from the distributor. The pick up coil is located inside the distributor housing.
Using an ohm meter, measure the resistance between the pick up coil terminals. On 1992 model they are identified as NE+ and NE-. The resistance should be between 370-530 ohms.
If your reading is outside this range the distributor will need to be replaced. ($140.00 - $160.00 as of 12-01-2013)
$100 if you look hard, or have a friend in the parts business. Less at auto salvage yards. Perform the same test before buying the used distributor, and get a 30 day warranty. Reputable salvage yards offer this.

Does the 1986 Tercel Wagon have an interference engine?
No. My 87 Tercel Wagon timing belt broke last year and the valves were not damaged. 3A and 3AC engines are non-interference.
Why would a Toyota Tercel shut off and then not start?
i have the same problem... it depends on if its trying to turn over or not... start from the begining on how a motor works... is it turning over? if so... then why isn't it fireing? check plugs and all electrical connections... if you do got spark then why isn't it starting? are you gettin gas? check all fuel related parts... if its getting gas and spark then you might wanna get deeper... check all fueses and sensors... make sure everythings working correctly... and if not then... well i guess your S.O.L.....
anyway my problem is that the bottom half of the motor turns over but the cams in the head don't move... the timing belt is still connected to the bottom half so what the hell? i hope i didnt lock the head up... or can you even do that? idk but if anyone can help me lemme know...

well you pop the trunk and if there is a hole light that goes across than you will have to replace the hole back light set but if not thay will come out indvisily and you can get to it from the trunk pull back the carpet that covers the back and there will be some nut take off and it should come out of the out side

There is no actual "plug". After draining the manual transaxle by unscrewing the bottom drain plug. Put the drain plug back in, then take out the speedometer sensor. There is a 10mm bolt that holds a bracket. Remove bolt and bracket and lift off sensor and speedometer shaft housing. Then remove the aluminum housing that contains the speedometer gear. It may require using a chisel. If you are lucky you won't destroy it by taking it out. Good luck! There is a stamp on the transmission housing describing where the fluid level should be.

You simply pull the unit out toward you while in front seat. Push on the side clip and it will detach from the wired part attached. Then take the back off by pulling carefully out on the edge of the two top clips and the two bottom ones....now to replace that inner clock? good question!

check on the tranny... there should be a cable that screws into the top of it... eather that part of the cable is broken orr... give the cable a little tug... if it slides out of its casing then you need a new cable... if its tight and wont come out then you need to look inside the tranny... and that's not fun...
