Turbo and Superchargers

Turbo and superchargers are engine components that pump pressurized air into the engine via a compressor. Their function is to increase the power generated by the engine by providing it with increased air pressure inside the cylinders.

Can you put a wastegate on a non turbo car?

I guess you could, but what would it do. A wastegate controls the amount of boost and with no turbo there is no boost to control.

Does a srt-4 come stock with a blow off valve?

yes, kind of. its called a surge vavle. it vents the air back into the turbo. its best to block it off and buy a external BOV

Will a 1997cc dohc turbo 16 valve engine fit into a 97 Mitsubishi eclipse rs?

No 2 different engines the turbo engine is on the drivers side and the non turbo is on the passenger side they mount different

What is different between a turbo charger and a super charger?

A turbo relies on the exhaust gasses turning impeller blades on the exhaust side of the turbo which are attached to the same shaft as the compressor blades on the intake side of the turbo which push more air into the engine. With more air the engine can burn more fuel and make more power through increased combustion efficiency.

With a supercharger you have a direct power outtake from the engine, usually through a pulley on the crankshaft, which drives a set of impellers which force more air into the intake of the engine.

Due to the direct drive the response from a supercharger is faster, but turbochargers are usually considered easier to install and steal less power from the engine at lower revs.

Does a 2002 Passat Wagon - 18L-turbo really need premium gas to survive how critical is it to use premium on turbo engines this is your first turbo - thanks?

I have a 2001 1.8T Passat Station Wagon. My (non-dealer) repair shop suggests that premium gas is only required for city driving. When going on a long trip with mostly high speed interstate driving, mid-grade gas is okay according to them. I have been following their advice for the last year and have had no change in gas mileage or performance.

As a once owner of a 2000 Passat wagon, a brother-in-law who has spent over the last 20 years as a VW dealer tech and he too still owns his 2000 Passat wagon 1.8T has never used anything but regular unleaded gas in his car. He says there is no reason that he has ever known or experienced in his many years as a tech and owner to use premium gas in this car. With the 1.8T you should only be using a full synthetic oil. there is no way around this. Using conventional motor oil WILL cause sludge in your engine, void the extended warranty on this engine and cost thousands to fix.

What is meant by turbo in a turbo engine?

........Turbo means the engine has a so called air pump hooked to it, as u step on the gas the exhaust that comes out the tailpipe first passes through the turbo and the turbo forces air into your engine thus it also sucks in more fuel at the same time....this can mean a drastic increase in horsepower depending on the setup

Can a supercharger from a 3.8 bolt up to a 3.1?

If it is the family of engine blocks, manifold will bolt on, yes.

Working of green engine?

It works without piston, and is capable of mixing air-fuel mixture more efficiently.

It has unique design, and rotary construction that allows it to be used for manufacture of automotive and air-crafts.

What is the difference between a 2.7L turbo engine and a 1.8L turbo engine?

2.7l is a higher displacement engine than the 1.8l Bigger displacement. In many vehicles the alphanumeric nomenclature of the vehicles usually indicates the series and engine displacement. The Mercedes Benz E350 is an E-Class with a 3.5l V6, whereas the C63 is a C-Class with a 6.3l V8. Nissan 350Z = 3.5l, and so on.

The sizes given in the question indicate Audi applications, of which the A6 has a 2.7 producing 250hp and the 1.8 of the A3, A4, Golf, Jetta, Passat, and tt produce anywhere from 150-225hp.

Can you put a turbo charger on a crate engine?

Marine diesels for pleasure boats range from 2ltr. 4cylinder diesels like from Yanmar rated at 150hp, to the MTU M94 rated at 2600hp, 35.8ltrs V16 powering the 92ft Viking Yatch. The largest is the Korean Wartsila-Sulzer 2 cycle diesel used in cargo ships, 25,480ltr. 14cyl 114,800hp/ 5.6 Million lb-ft of torque.

How does a supercharger work?

It is a simple process, a belt driven air pump, the supercharger draws air in and compresses internally or in the manifold( above atmospheric pressure- boost) It make the engine injest more air than it could, normally aspirated( basicly force feeding it). More air and more fuel increases cylinder pressures, creating more power. An example: a 2.0l 4cyl. running 7psi intercooled/.5bar of boost, would take in 50-60% more air than it would normally and would produce 50% more power than before.
A supercharger increases the power emmited into the engine, therefore increasing bhp and speed

A supercharger forces more air into the combustion chamber which compresses the air and pressurizes it above atmospheric pressure. More air means more fuel can be added. More fuel means a bigger explosion and thus more horsepower. Superchargers are driven off the same engine they are adding more power to unlike a turbocharger which is driven by the exhaust.
