The Glass fibres are the sound absorbing material that the exhaust's silencers are packed with. Eventually the internal structure of the silencers rusts away, allowing the fibres to come out the tail-pipe. The exhaust system needs replacing.

Brake caliper too - basically a hex head (Allen key) with an extension bar, get them at any auto store (can't recall the exact size). There's two bolts on the rear side of each caliper inside plastic protective tubes with end caps. Lift the car, wheels off, remove the protective caps, remove the 2 Allen bolts completely, remove a little retaining clip on the outer edge between the pads and the pads slide out (lever the caliper to spread the piston if needed). Installation of new pads is the reverse, bleed the system if needed. With practice it takes just a few minutes per side.

On the left hand side of the front passengers' foot well there is a lever that pulls towards you. Once you've done that there is a catch under the front bonnet, just above the peugeot badge, which moves up to release the bonnet completely.

To work out build date, read the 10th digit of the chassis/frame/vin number. (starts WOlO or VSXO depending on age.)

if is a letter, or a number 5 or under, it's an up to 2005 build.

If it's a 6 or higher, it's a 2006 onwards build.

Failure to use fully synthetic oil in 2006 onwards Vauxhalls can cause engine damage, and also failure of diesel particulate filters (if fitted).

Immediately replace the oil filter with a good name brand filter such as Purolator. You may have a defective filter. After replacing the filter, start the engine, run for 2 minutes, shut it off and wait 45 minutes. Now add enough oil to reach the full mark. ==Additional Info== First, let's discuss why and how an oil pressure indicator works. As the name implies, the purpose of the indicator is to alert the vehicle operator when the oil pressure drops below a safe "normal" pressure [determined by engine lubrication requirements, and the manufacturer]. MInimal safe pressure can be different for different engine makes and models. When the oil pressure in the engine drops below that preset amount, the switch closes and turns on the indicator light. When the pressure goes above that preset number, the switch opens, turning the light off. it's as simple as that. Now, to explain the condition, of a "lingering" light for a few seconds after engine start up. It is not abnormal for some oil to drain back into the oil pan while an engine is shut down. Therefore, when the engine is started, and until the oil pump fully refills all the oil passeges in the engine, the oil pressure may be below that preset number, and the indicator light will remain on until the pressure comes up. Your question "...after recently changing..." does not indicate whether this occured only once, immediately after changing the oil and filter, or that it has continued to do so on each engine restart. A single such occurance can be expected, and is normal, on the first restart after an oil and filter change, because the new filter is empty [has no oil in it]. Because it is empty, the oil pump has to fill it with oil BEFORE the pressure in the system can build up. Until that happens, the indicator circuit senses AND REPORTS the low pressure condition. As soon as the pressure builds up to normal, the light should go out. This DOES NOT indicate a defective filter. You should regularly [weekly at minimum, daily ideally] check and be sure the oil is up to full. If you KNOW the oil is full when you start out, then if the light comes on, and STAYS on, you know that somethingis wrong. There are a few other conditions which can result in an INTERMITTENT AND MOMENTARY actuation of the oil pressure indicator light, none of which should be of any concern, as long as the light does not STAY on, AND you check and confirm that the oil level is up to normal. One cause can be a very low oil level in the oil pan, in which the pump cannot pick up enough oil to keep the pressure up. Or, if the light comes on momentarily after making a sharp or "high-G" turn, then that would suggest only a moderately low level, but which allows the oil pump pickup to go "dry" momentarily as the oil "sloshes" to the side wall of the pan. The same thing can occur when climbing or decending a very steep incline. You SHOULD WORRY however, IF the light comes on, and STAYS on for more than 60 seconds, AND if it should stay on continuously for more than a couple of minutes, IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN UNTIL A PROFESSIONAL HAS IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED THE CAUSE.

help my zafira is due mot but cant have 1 until my milage apears on my meter it just disapeared leaving only -------- and current mls i drive which can be reset no problem ????????????????

It is located on the gearbox bellhousing at 6 o'clock.

Our Zafira 2.0DTI has a flanged plug with a rubber o-ring seal instead of a copper washer,to undo it you need a torx socket,size tx45 I think.Your astra is probably the same.Most of the local motor factors sell torx tools singly or in small sets. If you have the plastic "ecotec" engine cover,you need a smaller torx to get this off for oil filter access.(tx30 I think)If you look around the engine,you will see bolt heads with flutes instead of flats,these require female torx sockets "E" numbers.All designed to discourage home maintenance!!!!! *For easier oil filter access,you may need to remove the intercooler hose.Also,observe the torque setting for the plastic filter top.Although a large socket (36mm)required,torque is only 25Nm.

Undo the oil plug at the bottom of the oil pan. It'll be in the lowest place there and relatively easy to see and get to. Remove it slowly and don't take it out completly, but only just enough so that oil starts trickling out. Let a cup or so out and run the plug back in "finger tight" for now. Check the oil level. If it's still a bit high, repeat 'til engine oil is at the correct level. Be sure to snug up your oil drain plug when you're done - but not too tightly!

One may hang the caliper with a length of wire from the main suspension spring to change rear brake pads on Vauxhall Zafira. However, one should take care not to strain the brake pipe.

Depends on what is meant by "dangerous".

The warning light comes on when the engine management computer detects a fault with one of the many sensors that are on modern fuel-injected engines.

Some of these sensors play a vital role in keeping the engine running, others do not.

The warning light is like "pain". Pain in ones big toe is not "dangerous" but the same pain in the chest is. One is an ingrowing toe-nail, the other is a Heart-attack.

In the worst case the crank-shaft position sensor might be giving a false reading and cause the engine to cut out at 70 on the motorway, in the fast lane, in heavy traffic, and cause an accident (the Heart-attack) which could be dangerous. On the other hand it might be that the "air temp sensor" is reading -150oc which is clearly never going to be true, so puts the light on (an growing toe-nail). At worst this will cause very slight loss of power and perhaps slightly higher fuel consumption.

To answer the question briefly "It is a warning light." it is warning you of a fault. Ignore it at your own peril.

Hi, just done a service on my 2006 1.9cdti. The oil filter is directly below the fuel filter housing. It has a plastic cap that has a bolt pattern on it, this takes a very large socket(I had an old 1"1/4 drive that fitted) probably a 32 or 34mm socket. Once you have it loose it is very easy to change. Beware of spillage when dong this job!
