What do the terms Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta and so on mean?

All of those terms are part of the Phonetic Alphabet.

If you've ever had to use a radio to communicate, or even a telephone, you know that some times letters are unclear, and the military found this out as well, so they developed a standardized way of enunciating letters over communications systems

in essence its the same thing as saying "s as in sam"

except its the military, so its gotta be all the same.

What does it mean to say a 200 lap race is official after 100 laps?

In most cases it is known before the race that if for some reason the race would not be able to continue, the leader at the half way point or any point after up to the final lap (the official end of the race), could be considered the winner and the race is concluded.

For example, the thousands of spectators, and competitors have accommodation's for the day or days of the race as the schedule states. In the event of rain or some other un-fore scene event stoppage many of those people would have to leave and return home. They would be unable to be present for the conclusion. Though it may be disappointing to all to have a shortened event, that's the way it is. It doesn't happen often.

What does the year 30 CE stand for?

The term C.E. means the "common era." This refers to years counting forward from the birth of Jesus. Some use the term "A.D." which is Latin for Anno Domini (Year of the Lord)

The years prior to his birth may be called B.C.E. or "before the common era." We live in the year 2007 C.E.

So, the year 30 C.E. would be the same that some would call 30 A.D. It is the 30th year after the birth of Jesus.

ANOTHER VIEW

Some believe there is no proof Jesus ever was the Son of God. The more common reference A.D., B.C. has until in recent years been the standard. In an effort to promote non-theological references, non believers and neutralists advocate the use of C.E./B.C.E.

In 730 AM what does AM stands for?

AM means before Noon. PM means after Noon.

That is correct but the abbreviation stands for "Post Meridiem" for the period between noon and midnight and AM stands for "Ante Meridiem" for the period between between midnight and noon.

I have always just thought of it as AM for after midnight and PM for pre midnight. Not correct but gets the meaning accross ;)

You might have thought that:

  • AM = After Midnight
  • PM = Past Midnight

That would not make sense because it is a synonym.
