Visa would be a smart idea to travel anywhere but yes they do.
Unfortunately in the public it is said that Iranians do not need visa, but according to my recent experience that occurred this month Jan 2012 they do need visa of Venezuela in order to travel to this country.
I wanted to travel to Venezuela via Colombia but the Venzuelan police in the barrier of Colombia told me that Iranians as well as many other countries of Middle East such as Iraq, Lebanon, etc. need visa in order to travel to Venezuela.
I think it is just an advertisement that Venezuela is doing to say to the world that it is a free country and it is a political trick! not more.
So I suggest to everybody specially the Middle Easterns to assure about having a trip and journey to other countries in advanced in order to prevent the likely problems that they might have in their trip!

Well, it depends on which country you are staying and which country your cedula is from. Technically speaking, you can stay forever because of the Mercosur visa agreement. However the implementation is different in each country. The simplest ones to stay seem to be Chile and Argentina. Once you are in either of them you just need to go to the Departamento de Extranjeria and fill the form to get the Mercosur visa. Once that is done you will receive your residence permit in about a week. That permit is valid for two years, but after that you can change it to a permanent residence. In both cases after 5 years you can get citizenship.
Brazil is more complicated, because you need to start the procedure before getting into the country. I don't know about other countries, but I suspect that Uruguay and Paraguay should be easy too.
