How do you replace the voltage regulator in a 1988 240 Volvo?
The regulator is internal to the alternator! Just replace the alt.
The alternator has an internal regulator that can be replaced by itself; however, when there is an issue with the alternator, it often involves diodes in alternator instead of or in addition to the regulator.
better repair shops will often take an alternator to an automotive electrical repair shop for same-day rebuilds, with the value much higher than a cheap rebuild in a chain parts shop, and hundreds less than a dealer replacement. You want Bosch or your own Bosch rebuilt

What Dashboard light on a Volvo v70 looks like an upside down y?
On all Volvos equipped with an O2 sensor you'll find a dashboard light that looks like an upside-down 'y'. This is the Greek letter Lamda, which is Volvo's name for their O2 sensor based emissions control system. Usually the Lambda light only comes on during startup, but major problems (faulty sensor, faulty computer, catastrophic engine failure) can trigger the Lamda light. In newer Volvos you'll usually get a "Check Engine" code first, so don't ignore it, because when the Lamda light comes on you need to fix it ASAP!
Below the intake manifold on the passenger or right side of the engine
I own a 1998 v70. the oil trap is behind the intake manifold on the left side. FCPgroton sells the repair kit for it.
As I stated the first time it is on the right or passenger side of the engine. You will need to remove the intake manifold to service or replace it. If the oil is changed often enough the oil trap box will not clog with carbon The clamps on the original box are not reusable and you will most likely find that the hoses going to and from the box are also clogged or at least restricted with deposits also. I have over 30 years of dealer experience.
Why does my Engine fluctuate on Volvo v70 t5 what could this mean?
Got your air con on? Are the revs dropping and climbing as the compressor kicks in and out?
I had this problem and although it didnt stall, it was pretty close - which is a problem in an automatic when you're sat at the lights in rush hour.
I had a new battery fitted and, once the new one was reconnected, the Engine Management computer seemed to reboot and to "learn" how to deal with the issue and it's fine now.
How do you remove service light in Volvo v70 1999?

When does volvo V70 timing belt need changing?
98 V70 is recommended every 70,000 miles. 1999 through 2003 is recommended every 105,000 miles and 2004 on is recommended every 120,000 miles. You also want to replace the timing belt tension and idler with each belt. It has been my experience working in a dealership that sometimes the belt may start developing cracks and wear from the enviroment it is exposed to. Therefore if the belt looks to be in a less than ideal condition you may wish to consider replacing it before the mileage to be on the safe side since these are "interference" motors and a broken timing belt will cause a lot of expensive damage.

How do you jump start a 2001 V70 Volvo?
The battery is in the back of the car, under the storage compartment follr. You cantake this all apart if you want, but there is an easier way. Open the hood and look on the driver's side, along the edge of the opening, above the tire. YOu will see a black box, about 12" long and 5" wide, with "fuses" printed on it. On the side of this box is a small panel, about 4" by 1", with a plus sign on it. You can pop this up (it's hinged) and you will see a metal bolt sticking up This is the positive terminal. Hook the red jumper cable to this post, and hook the other end of the red cable up to the other car's battery positive post. Next to the big fuse box, you will see 3 small bolts with wires under them. You can hook the black cable end to these bolts. When you hook up the other end of the black cable, hook it to the other car's engine or body, not to the battery. You will make sparks when you hook up the last connection, and if you do it on the battery, there is a possibility the battery can explode. massvolvoman

How do you remove seat belt casing to clear jamming?
I had the rear driver side seat belt lock into position tight against the seat - I picked and pulled with no luck. I also had the service light needing reset so I super glued my wallet to my pants pocket and drove to the Volvo dealer. He gave me free advice (shocking) and showed me how to reset the service light - it was so easy I didn't even take the time to write it down, now I can't remember and have tried all the tricks on the net with no luck. Then came the seat belt release secret that I've beating myself up over. The tech walks into the garage and comes back with a wrench in his hand (?) then unscrews the floor bolt end of the seat belt, it retract in and then releases, then he screwed the bolt back in. I had a "duh" moment, all that time I spent picking at the seat end, and I did crack the plastic housing and made a mess of it.
Hope this is the answer you're looking for, Dennis

Reset check engine light on 2001 Volvo v70 xc?
The simple answer: Disconnect the negative battery lead for 1/2 hour. The codes will reset to factory defaults and the check "engine light" will be out. After several driving cycles the CPU (brain) will pick up new codes. If the light comes back on then, you've got a problem. The downside: You will also lose the radio security code, so you'll have to punch that in-- find it first, or be without tunes.
