Hi ,I have found valueable information as regards the weights etc ,, taken from a Volkswagen Manual ,,it suggests an unladen weight of 1495 kgs / with a vehicle capacity weight of 755 kgs ,and a gross vehicle weight of 2250 kgs ,,
99.995% of the time oil in coolant is a blown headgasket. If you tackle the job yourself get the 3 notch gasket (thicker). Replace the cam belt and idler pulley while you're in there. Also secure Raceware studs instead of the standard stretch bolts. I've done MANY diesels and great results were obtained with the stud system. Also do not get the head shaved to true it. Many a head has been destroyed by poorly informed machine work. The OH Cam is in the head so shaving it will move the cam bearing out of alignment when installing it. If the head warps at temp the only way to straighten it is by heating it to a plastic state and re-pressing it straight. Machining it is a waste of time and money.`So the trick is to clean the head gasket surface really well with thinner and then re-installing it.
Found metal shavings in distributor in '71 VW Bus does anyone know what that might be?
The rotor was probably not installed correctly, and it rubbed against the cap. The rotor should be pressed completely down. Make sure the cap is seated correctly on the distributor and clipped on securely, as it could cause the rubbing if it is misaligned.
Just put a 009 distributor in if the weights are coming apart,or the bushings have too much play, can buy for under 100 dollars!
What other engines will work in a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle that has a 18L Turbo in it?
The Jetta engine should fit
AnswerAny four-cylinder watercooled VW engine will FIT in the car; every watercooled inline-4 Volkswagen engine has the same bellhousing pattern and mounting bolt hole locations. The question is, which engines will work? And really, because of all the electronics in your car I wouldn't guarantee anything but another 1.8 Turbo would work.
Where is the VIN on 1963 VW BUS?
a couple of places...or at least it should be.
Open your engine decklid, and look on the metal body area near the #1 spark plug (between the engine and the battery.) It should be imbossed into the body of the car. If that area is cut out, it was likely junked at one point in its life.
Look behind the passenger seat.
Look on the passenger side of the fresh air vent on the roof.
A 1963 bus VIN has 7 numbers.
1600cc, means 1,600 "Cubic Centimeters".
If I remember fight, it's the measurement of a motors total piston cylinder volume. The space in each cylinder. In a four cylinder 1600cc motor, each piston area has a volume of 400cc. 4x400cc=1600cc.
Or 1600cc=1.6L, (Liters).
Or 1600cc=98ci, (Cubic Inches).
there is no such manufacturer. it is a "junkyard" part. or you can clean your OG trim and Paint it...
What type VW motor do you have numbers on case halves read S1 12 401.101.101A?
You have a Type 4 motor--your bus is at least a 1972, right? A Volkswagen part number has three subgroups. I don't know what the S1 12 stuff is...could be the aluminum alloy VW used, or the mold this case came out of, or whatever. First subgroup: the car the part was originally used in. This one's weird because Volkswagen never built a car called a 401. I think this is probably a two-liter engine, which was introduced after the Type 4 was discontinued. But they can't put a "211" number on it, because the engine is a "Type 4" engine, so someone just pulled a number out of the air. Second subgroup: functional area. The first digit reports the "main product group"--1 for engines, 3 for transmissions...there are nine subgroups. The figure zero will never start this group. The last two digits report what item in the subgroup the part is--01 is the complete thing, 98 is a repair parts kit. 101 means it's the whole engine. Third subgroup: the actual part number. 101 is just the first one of these they made. Just call me the Fount of Useless Knowledge.
How do you adjust valves on 71 VW bus?
Adjusting your valves on the 71 bus is quite easy and it's only one of the things you should do every 1500 to 3000 miles. I would strongly suggest buying a copy of "How To Keep Your Volkswagen Alive". I own a 1971 VW transporter and it's the only source that I've found that has decent pictures and explanations on how to do all the up keep on my van. Good luck with you valves. Adjusting them will make you at one with your bus.
No it does not hold any "goods" its a large passenger veichle
What kind of gas does a bug Volkswagen take?
Clean gasoline for street automobiles, and "regular" is fine. Don't put aviation gasoline in one; there's lead you don't need in it, there's octane you don't need in it and the fact no one paid road tax on it means it's illegal to use it in a car anyway. Besides, car engines run terrible on it. Don't use racing fuel either; it's also tax-exempt hence not to be used in a road car.
Why is the 77 VW bus is stuck in 3RD gear any suggestions?
I had the same problem in my 78 and it was because the shifting fork in the nose cone of the trans axle was broke so we took it out and welded it back together and it worked fine, but I would suggest getting a new one they can't be too much and the broken piece from the old one won't get in the case and screw up your gears, I learned that the hard way also I would suggest getting an new seal for the nose cone and be careful not to over tighten those bolts I stripped two with out applying alot of pressure. . It isn't to hard to get to just put a jack stand under neath the trans-axle because you will have to undo the front mount to get the nose cone off, but other than that you can do this at home with a set of metric wrench. any more info about this problem feel free to send me a message at pacman_packs_crak@hotmail.com

What is the gap for the points for a 1983 vw 1500motor?
50 degrees of dwell. You can't do the final point setting procedure with feeler gauges, because every set of points and condenser is a little different.
How to set them: First set the points to .016" gap. Next, hook up your dwell meter and start the engine. With the meter set to the 4-cylinder position, see if you have 50 degrees of dwell angle on the meter. If you have more, close the points .001" and try it again. If you have less, open them up .001" and recheck. Keep doing it until the dwell angle is 50 degrees.
