How do you bleed the coolant system on a mk3 golf 1.8?

Jack and prop up front axle for safety. There may be a board lining the underside of the engine bay which will have to be removed. When you have clear access for for the radiator, search for plug or tap on bottom edge of the radiator, and remove. Water will then drain out. If you can't find the plug/tap, you'll have to remove the rubber hose from the base of the rad to achieve the same effect. Take cap off top of rad, and also the one on the expansion tank located nearby and connected to the rad by a hose.

Replace pug at bottom, mix coolant and fill steadily the radiator. When full, run the engine on tickover for a while to get rid of any airlocks in the system. Replace caps on radiator and expansion tank.

DO NOT DO THIS ON A HOT ENGINE!!

On a 1985 vw cabriolet what does wolfsburg edition karmen stand for?

The 1985 VW Cabriolet Wolfsburg Special Edition manufactured at the Karmen factory in Germany. VW stopped production of the Golf Mk1 (or rabbit depending on the branding) in Pennsylvania in 1985. They produced the Golf Diesel at the beginning of the year (maybe even FI Golfs as well) but switched production to Germany as they were replacing the Mk1 with the Mk2. After 1985 the only Mk1s sold were the Cabriolets.

The WOlfsburg was essentially just a branding of the Mk1 Cabriolet that included leather seats, special dash designs and a coupel other bells and whistles but was essentially the same as other Mk1 Cabriolets.

The 1985 was the first year the US model of the Cabriolet was built in Germany and the first year it was called specifically "Cabriolet". The trim and other features, such as bumpers, were different than the 1986 versions which were redesigned.

The 85 Wolfsburg Cabriolet built at the Karmen plant is relatively rare and is becoming a nice little collector car for various reasons. Not the least of which because it's a super fun convertible!

Answer #2:

A) It's Karmann.

B) All 1979-1993 water-cooled VW convertibles, regardless of badging, were built by Karmann GmbH in Osnabrück, Germany. All of these convertibles sport "Karmann" badges on their fenders to give credit to the factory that built them.

C) "Wolfsburg Edition" is a marketing name. The 1985 Wolfsburg Edition Cabriolet came in only two paint colors: Flash Silver Metallic and Titian Red Metallic. Their dashes are no different than other Cabriolets; they did, however, receive special leather interiors and color-matched Avus wheels. As for the "bells and whistles", the 1985 Wolfsburg Editions were no different than other Cabriolets; A/C was optional as was power steering and cruise control (power windows weren't even a thought until the 1990 model year when they became standard; power door locks were never even an option let alone standard equipment on the Mk1's). Canadian models received optional heated front seats.

D) The 1985 Cabriolet marked a name change from "Rabbit Convertible". However, that is the only thing that changed; if not for the badges on the trunk lid, you essentially could not discern an '85 from an '84. The 1986 model year marked a couple of minor changes: Bumper mountings (metal bumpers sit closer to body), loss of bumper guards, and addition of the federally-mandated third brake light (which did not change for '87; i.e. the '87's are identical in appearance and mechanicals to the '86). It was the 1988 model year that marked the beginning of the Clipper body kit and dual-round headlight grille.

E) When the Westmoreland plant closed in 1988, production of North American-sold Golfs and Jettas switched to Mexico, in addition to Germany.

88 vw cabriolet dies at idle unless the ac is on then it still idles too low Dealership can't repair?

i have a 91 cabriolet and have had what problem you have had, and it is simple, but depending on the pricing of the parts and how willing you are to work for it is the key. in the front of the engine compartment on the motor, there are two sensors, one is blue, one is black i think. the blue one tells the computer how much gas to give it to keep it running, and if the sensor is not plugged all the way in and fastened properly, it will not run on a cold start. if your sensor is bad or not plugged in, it needs to be replaced. don't worry though, it is held in by a single retainer clip and it is only a single wire to it. pop it off, then take it to auto zone or make sure it is pushed in all the way.

the simple solution is to press the gas while on idle and make the engine rev to about 2000 rpm. this is a safe output, so the car will warm up. hold it for about a a minute and a half.

Where is the idle control valve located in a 1992 Volkswagen Cabriolet?

Strangly enough I can answer your query. The idle control valve is located dirctly in front of the upper portion of the intake manifold on the slightly left side. it has an electrical connector on the left end and two hose splines on the right. It is a very easy replacement thuogh expensive to buy. $225 is the lowest I've found for a new one. To get a picture type" Volkswagen idle control valve" into your search engine and pick any vendor.

How do you open the trunk of a 2004 Corvette z06 without the keys?

try a locksmith.

There should be a small steel cable somewhere in the trunk or behind the seats (can't remember now) that allows you to release the trunk from inside the car. You have to be able to get into the car...the idea is that you can pop the trunk open if your battery dies.

The emergency deck lid release mechanism on the C5 generation is a small cable terminating in a metal ferrule that is tucked between the layers of carpet in the rear of the luggage compartment.

The rear deck may also be released remotely with a button on the left side of the steering column.

How do you fix a 1987 VW Cabriolet if the instrument panel back up and tail lights will not come on but the brake and turn signal lights do?

I just fixed a problem that sounds similar to yours, however my tail lights were working - just the backup lights were not. I checked the bulbs, fuses and wiring, and all were fine. The solution was to replace the backup light switch on the transmission. The switch is on top of the transmission near the clutch cable. There are only 2 bolts attaching it, but they're a little hard to get at. Since the switch is $20 - $40 depending on where you get it, you might want to remove the switch and test it with a continuity tester first to make sure it's the cause of your problem. You can connect the test leads to the switch terminals and operate the 3 different switches on the unit to see if they're working. I think there's 5 terminals, so you might have to do some trial and error to find which terminals go with which switches. Mine was only working partially - I'd push the switch and see continuity at first, but then it would open up again as the switch travelled to what should be its fully-closed position. Just a note: there seem to be 2 different switches available - one with, and one without, an "upshift indicator" function. My dashboard has the upshift LED indicator on it, so I purchased the appropriate backup light switch. The backup lights now work, but the upshift indicator still does not. ? Haven't solved that one yet, so any help would be appreciated. !

I had what sounds like the exact thing happen to my 87'Cabriolet. All I had to do was change the "on-off light switch". It took me about 10 minutes and I'm a girl!! I have never had the same problem since. I hope it is as easy for you. Good Luck!

How do you change the starter in a 1999 VW Cabrio?

I replaced the starter in our '99 Cabrio yesterday. Getting the starter off was fairly simple. It took me about 3.5 hours to complete the job, which is about 2.5 hours longer than I expected. The reason was that I had a hard time aligning the brackets up to the mounting bolts when I installed the new starter. I'll explain more below.

Manuals say that you should disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before you start.

There are three bolts that hold the starter to the engine and 2 electrical connections. The electrical connections need to be removed first and can be accessed from the top.

The first electrical connector to remove is the black connector. It has a spring clip that needs to be taken off before you can remove it. Once you do, it will slide off easily. I suggest you reattach the spring clip after you remove the connector so it will be ready to reinstall later. The second are two cables are held by a nut (one of thee is from the battery).

Then you can remove the three bolts that hold the starter to the engine. One bolt on the top and one on the bottom have secondary nuts that hold brackets for other components that will need to be removed first. Two of the bolts that hold the starter are very long (about 6") and are connected to brackets on the back side. (Note: for some reason I had a hard time getting these brackets to line up after I put in the new starter.) When the three bolts have been removed, the starter can be pulled out.

Put the starter in place and reinstall the three mounting bolts. Make sure the threads on each are all started but do not tighten at this time. (Note: This is where I had a hard time. For some reason the brackets shifted and would not align. I had to put a jack under the engine and lift it slightly to get the brackets to line up.) Once all three bolts are started you can tighten then evenly until the starter is tight to the block (no gaps). Then the brackets can be remounted to the top and one of the bottom bolts.

Lastly, you can reconnect the electrical. The two cables needs to be reattached first. Then the black connector. When these are complete, reconnect the battery.

Note: the VW dealer price for a replacement starter was $260. I bought a rebuilt one from Advanced Auto parts for $120 that came with a lifetime warranty. There is a core charge that is reimbursed when you return your defective starter.

When a vw cabrio's clutch goes out can it break the fly wheel?

A slipping clutch may cause cracks on the flywheel wear surface from excessive heat. The cracks would be reason enough to replace the flywheel when replacing the clutch assembly.

1992 cabriolet why do you have low oil pressure at idle the light flickers?

Cabriolets typically take a higher viscosity oil then most domestic cars. Check your owners manual and make sure you are using the right oil. Change the oil to 20W50. Use an oil filter other than Fram. Replace the oil pressure sending unit(s). Replace the oil pump. The engine's internal parts are gradually wearing down. The above actions are fixes to the light problem and will aid in engine wear, but eventually (years down the road) the engine will need servicing. Always use a mechanical oil pressure guage first to make sure the oil pressure is actually lower than specifications. In many cases the lights or electronic guage may not be giving a proper reading. Some cars will have the oil light and low reading at idle from brand new and live a long happy life. Your water temperature is a good indicator also, low oil pressure will cause higher engine temperature readings. If the oil pressure light comes on while driving or the guage reads low at higher RPM's you probably need to replace some parts as you have a lubrication problem. Regardless, low oil pressure will kill an engine so make sure you check it out.

Why might a 2002 Chrysler Sebring stall when idling in traffic?

AnswerI have a 2000 Sebring convertible JXI v6 2.5 L

It was stalling out even while driving at high speeds. I read of three possibilities for this problem.

1. Bad MAP sensor. I replaced this since it was the easiest and least expensive thing to do. It had little to no affect.

2. Bad Crank Position Sensor. This part was $60 and a pain in the butt to get to. I replaced it one month ago, have been driving the car every day, and the problem has not returned. (Hint: It is easier to see this part through the driver side wheel well. You'll need about a 2 foot extension to reach the single bolt holding this part in place and you'll have to remove the tire and plastic wheel well covers.)

3. Unplug the over drive connection from the top of the transmission. Never got to this one since # 2 worked.
