They work by the sensor getting rain on it and if it is getting a lot on it then it will speed up the wipers and if it gets less then it will slow them down. Its on the top of your windshield right behind the mirror. ---- Yes, quite an obvious statement of fact; what the OP was hoping for was an answer to his question. ----

On the left side you have to remove the auxiliary battery control panel face plate to access the three bulb system of taillight, brakelight, and turn signal.

Bad thermostat maybe?

Front disk breaks pads need replaced.

You need to remove the steering wheel, air bags, dash, everything. A good mechanic will charge close to $1,000 in labor to remove and replace the dash. The part itself is cheap.

Keep the overflow tank filled to its FULL line. Find the highest point in the cooling system; open it very slightly. Sometimes the highest point is the radiator cap. Sometimes the highest point is at a hose clamp. Very rarely there is a bolt that is meant to be loosened to let air out of the cooling system (example 1995 Mustang) You will hear air coming out. Keep filling the overflow tank. Then re-tighten the part that you opened. Also you will want to have the car's heater on HIGHEST/HOTTEST while doing this because the heater is connected to the cooling system.

Volkswagen does not want you taking labor fees away from it's dealers so they removed the dipstick. You need a scantool to properly top off the atf.

Changing the oil filter on your 02 Eurovan requires removing the Bellypan (soundshield -VW calls it) to gain access. Its not so bad,so don't be intimidated. I hope you have a floor jack (I go under the crossmember) and a pair of jackstands to place at the factory jack points. The Belly pan is held on with 4 bolts around the edges and 2 nuts near the crossmember. Once removed, you have plenty of room to remove the filter canister by unscrew the whole unit (use a strap wrench or large channel locks) NOT by turning the small hex nut on the very bottom. Fram offers a new filter for 10 bucks. The oil capacity seems odd . I read 6.1 quarts with filter change,so I added six and it shows too high on the dipstick. I'd suggest adding 5,check it, 1/2 more check it, etc. Good luck and remember to take your used oil to a recycling station! Dan 03 EV Westy

On my 1999 Passat GLS, the fuse panel is on the left side of the dash, facing the driver's door. Use a screw driver at the bottom of the cover panel to pry it off and expose the fuses. The fuse panel cover has a fuse puller and card that diagrams the fuse locations with their purpose.

Deadly, get it carefully to where you can work on it and replace it.

It could be low on coolant. It could have air in the cooling system and needs to be burped. It could be a fault low coolant switch or the associated wiring.

There are 2 coolant locations.

1) there is an expansion tank (white plastic) connected to the radiator filler neck via a hose.

2) There is the radiator itself. Check the radiator by opening the radiator cap when the engine is cold. (no pressure in cooling system. ) Visually examine level or coolant -- should be at or near radiator cap neck.

3) on a '96 the coolant sensor is located on the left side of the radiator about 6 inches down from the top.

A stop leak additive or debris in cooling system will fake out the sensor causing the light to flash. Solid on, coolant may actually be low in the radiator and the cooling system will need to be bled of trapped air.

On the '96 there are 2 locations to bled with brass plug/screw.

One in the pipe sending coolant across the front part of the engine.

The second is a plug in the intake manifold on the right, topside.

If the hose between the coolant recovery tank and the radiator leaks, then air will get into the system. Also if water pump seal fails, same problem.

just peplace front brake pad and new sensors on my s550 mercede but the sensor light is still on how do i get it to go off

1-2-4-5-3. Just make sure you have 1 in the right spot. Might take some trial and error but not tough to figure out once you have the right sequence.

On the driver side to the left, on the same side as the door under neath the console. It is the same color as the interior and looks like a handle

It is your abs system (air bag system) warning light or it is your brake pad wear warning light (depends the year of your van).

Begin by removing the wiring harness from your auxiliary water pump. Drain the water from the system. Remove the water supply hose. Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new auxiliary water pump.

Probably not. It could be the cooling fans, or the water pump. Does the temp go down to normal when you are going down the hwy? If so, its probably the fans. If the temp gets to 260 the fans should kick on, if not, I would look at the fan circuit, fan module, and fan assembly.

you should mix antifreeze half and half with clean water and fill radiator to full, then add to cold line in the overflow tank

It's very easy. You need a 6" C-Clamp to compress the piston and a large enough "channel lock" to turn the piston as it's held in the C-Clamp. Clamp it to compress & turn the piston Clockwise. Compress, turn, compress, turn. It shouldn't take too many turns and compressions to get it all the way in.

Prior to that, removing the pads are easy as well. Two 13mm bolts hold the calipers on. One of them has a wire connected to the ABS system. It's fairly easily unclipped. Be aware of how and where the wire it stowed and protected. It's really easy.
