Wheel Alignment and Balancing

Wheel alignment is the adjustment of the wheels’ angles so that they would be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the road. Wheel balancing, on the other hand, is the checking of a heavy spot on the wheels.

Is it ok to use two same sized snow tires with equal amounts of tread but different tread patterns on the front of a car?

While it is good to use tires with the same tread and sizes, it is possible to use tires with different tread patterns, though you should be careful as the performance of the two tires may be different, causing your car to be unbalanced, endangering your passengers.

How do you rotate tires on 4x4 pickup?

How do you Adjust the camber on 1996 f-150?

The top ball joint is held in with a offset bushing that can be pulled out and turned in the hole to change camber and or caster. Sometimes the adjustment can be done with the original bushing. Sometimes it needs a new bushing with more or less degrees of offset to get the adjustment. I would suggest removing the old ones and starting with new 0 degree bushings on both sides, then read the alignment, these first numbers will be where the angles truly are. Then replace them with whatever offset it calls for. It is much easier figuring the new bushing offset this way.

What causes the steering wheel of a 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 to shimmy at all speeds when the tires and brakes and wheels have been checked?

Switch the front wheels to the rear and try it; if the vibration has changed at all you have a tire/wheel problem. It is not uncommon for a shop to miss this problem. Most vibrations like yours ARE tire/whhel problems. sounds like u-joints

Why does a tire makes a humming noise?

id say type and size of tire, and if bearings are bad either or will make that humming sound.

What is wrong when my car makes a humming noise when driving straight and goes away when braking this is intermittent?

There is a list of causes, ranging from newer roads to tire wear to bad alignment. Drive a gravel road to eliminate that possibility. I would guess, however, that your tires are not wearing evenly...rotate the tires. There should be a pattern for rotation in your owner's manual.

Are there caster camber adjustments 1989 Escort?

I have an '88 Escort EXP and only the toe is adjustable on the front suspension. The caster and camber are fixed from the factory. There are no built-in adjustment mechanisms for caster and camber. If caster or camber are incorrect, it may be possible to adjust this by elongating bolt holes or moving suspension mounting points but this can involve major modifications and is best left to someone who can do it themselves. I doubt that you could find a mechanic that would do this for you due to liability problems.

Does a tire and rim size need to be the same?

Generally speaking, the tyre section (width across the sidewalls) is stated clearly on the sidewall. It should not be less than 90% of the rim width or more than 1.4 times the rim width. The nominal diameter of rim and tyre must be the same. Bert Meinders

What size tires are you able to install on a 1992 dodge Dakota sport V8?

This all depends on whether you have a lift kit and whether you want to cut away at your truck to fit large tires. If you keep it stock, you'll eventually get to a point where you have to cut away at the wheel well so that your tires can turn. If you have a lift kit high enough to clear your tires, you shouldn't have a problem putting any size tire.

What do you do first tire alignment or wheel balancing?

Balancing ... although it has no real effect on the alignment, the act of removing the wheels and re-installing them improperly could result in disrupting the alignment.

Do new tires require a wheel alignment?

Not necessarily. If the car was in alignment prior to getting the new tires, it will be in alignment after the new tires. It isn't a bad idea to check the alignment periodically and it is probably better to check it more frequently than when you get new tires.

Is clear tire a good brand tire?

Its a Chinese company named fullrun tyre ltd.

In May 2010, having had my '93 Mazda Miata caught in a chain-reaction collision, I bought a 2001 Miata from a local Subaru dealership. The dealer had put a set of Clear brand tires on the car, something I hadn't noticed until I was going over the car with a fine-toothed comb. I checked with my Firestone dealer, who had never heard of the brand, but judged them to be good-quality tires with an excellent tread pattern for water dispersion. I found the one dealer in town who sells them, just in case I ever needed to replace a damaged tire. I have now put about 12,000 miles on them. As I belong to the Miata club in town, we put on some aggressive-driving miles on the twisty mountain roads of Tennessee and North Carolina, in both the wet and the dry. I love these tires - they have excellent adhesion and they appear to be standing up very well, with only minor signs of wear after a year's use. I have no complaints at all, even though this is a brand that is practically unknown in the USA.

How does negative tire or wheel camber work?

Camber is the angle between the vertical axis of the wheel and the vertical axis of the vehicle when viewed from the front or rear. With a negative camber angle the top of the wheels is leaning in towards the vehicle. Tires tend to roll while cornering, and the inner contact patch may lift off the road surface. By using negative camber the effect is reduced, maximizing the tire's grip. This is only effective on the outside tire during the turn, which is bearing the majority of the vehicle's load as the weight transfers opposite of the direction which you are turning.
