The other way to have access to the internet, is by using a mobile phone that has internet tethering abilities. It's more or less the same process as above, except you don't use a separate GSM modem, the mobile phone becomes a GSM modem instead (this option saves the purchase of buying extra kit).

Another option is to take a wifi enabled device and find a free wifi local hotspot. You can visit a local library, they normally provide access to the Internet and in the UK provide a computer as well, although access is not always free using this option. There is also satellite internet, which can be expensive.

You have two basic options.

1.You can connect your laptop to your cable, fibre optic, or DSL modem or Ethernet port using an Ethernet cord.

2. You can connect your cable, fibre optic, or DSL modem or Ethernet port to a wireless router using a Ethernet cable. You then connect your laptop using wireless to your wireless router.

If your computer has Windows ME on it, it is NOT capable of USB booting. The DSL wiki has detailed instruction on how to make a bootable DSL flash drive. Basically, you need to:

1. Format your Flash drive with a FAT32 file system.

2. Downloaded the embedded DSL zip file and extract it to the Flash drive/

3. Download and install the Windows version of Syslinux

4. Run the Syslinux program on your Flash drive.

ADSL filter is a passive electrical circuit, (low pass filter) which is used along with an ADSL modem (for internet access). It can be built into an ADSL modem or is provided as a small box along with the modem. On one side it connects to the telephone network side. Other side has two connections one for connecting the phone and other one to connect to the ADSL modem. You don't - you'll need an Ethernet card for your computer. A regular voice/fax modem is different than a high-speed/network connection, so you need a different 'card' (with a socket that will match your cable). If you can't find a socket that your Ethernet cable fits, then you don't have an Ethernet card installed!

A DSL filter is used to shield telephones, fax machines, etc, from "digital noise" and / or unwanted interference from other devices. They are recommended for use with most landline phones and similar devices.

Try to install the DSL filter coming out of your phone.
