Why is culture a barrier between Israelis and Palestinians?
They have different religious values, a different regard for what education should be, a different understanding of what human rights are, a different understanding of what history is, a different understanding of the worth of human life, different languages, different economic systems, different foods, and a different societal organization.
Aside from these trifles, their cultures are very similar.
Israel defeated the Arab states in 1948 because?
Because the Jews fought for survival instead of gain or glory. Although attacked on every front by Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, etc, the Israelis were well organized and applied their strengths effectively to protect themselves as best they could...the alternative promised by the Arabs was total annihilation. Arab effectiveness was reduced by poor coordination and communication between states as many considered their partners as competition for gain of territory and honors. The exception was East Jerusalem where the Arab Legion under British command ethnically cleansed the Old City of its large Jewish population until regained by the Israelis 19 years later.

How are Zionism and the revival of Hebrew language linked?
Zionism and the revival of Hebrew are more than just linked: they are two parts of the same concept. The re-establishment of the Jewish homeland includes the re-establishment of our ancient language.
What role did kings play in religion in ancient Israel?
I am assuming that you talking about the Jewish kings.
It depended on whether or not the kings walked with God them selves.
For example:
Saul was the 1st king, and though he was chosen by God, he did not lead the people to follow after God. The people did not do so on their own and fell into sin. Saul lost his kingship because of his "evil" heart towards God in not listening and obeying in what God told him to do.
David, the king after him, was a man of war, but lead the people to choose God and the people repented.David won many battles because God was with him and the people prospered. When David sinned in his personal life He repented before God and won God's favor once more.
David's son Solomon who reigned in his place, built a temple to God and the people followed hard after God. But when Solomon married wives of other ethnic groups, he built temples to their Gods also. The people then began to seek after other Gods and turned from their one true God with dire circumstances for the Jewish nation. I have never found that Solomon ever repented.
The Israelites' always stumbled from their moorings when their kings were not following God.
Or did you mean what was their part in the religion its self?
The Kings were not to spill the blood of sacrifice, the priests did that work before God. They were to ask God about all the goings on in the political field. They were to reign with a just hand and follow after God personally then follow the orders of God diligently.
The priests were the ones that lead the people in religion. They cared for the temple and the instruments of the temple. They lead the people in the observances and taught Gods word to the young. They killed all the offerings and took care to pray for the people.
How ever as the kings went- so the people.
Hope this helps. -Karla-
What area do both Palestinians and israelis claim as a homeland?
Historic Palestine or the Land of Israel. (Both are regional names for the same piece of land, roughly.)
Did the Arabs and Jews support each other?
Answer 1
Yes the Arabs, whether Christian or Muslim did help the Jews on numerous occasions and the Jews did the same. The Jews assisted Arab and Amazigh Muslims in their conquests throughout the Rise of Islam period such as when the Muslims captured the city of Cordoba in Spain. They approached the Jewish community, gave them weapons, and asked them to be the stewards of the city until the Conquest of Spain was complete. Conversely, the Arabs helped the Jews settle down in the Muslim Empires (Morocco and the Ottoman Empire) after the Reconquest of Iberia by the Catholics. They also worked together against the European Crusaders that attacked anyone that was not Catholic, including Eastern Orthodox Christians.
Jews and Arabs lived peacefully in the Middle East and North Africa for hundreds of years before the establishment of Israel in 1948. Even then, many Arabized Jews fought against the Zionist Jews who cam from Europe.
Arab Jews still live in the West Bank and consider themselves Palestinian, rather than Israeli.
Answer 2
Yes. Historically, Arabs and Jews had decent relations and tolerated each other. Some of their better moments are memorialized in paragraph 1 of Answer 1. However, for much of their history together, it was not an association of equals. The Arabs were superiors and the Jews were inferiors. There were legal requirements for Jews concerning how they were to dress, where they could live, what jobs they could perform, what their testimony and wrongful deaths were worth, what taxes they would need to pay, how they could proselytize, and how they could produce, sell, and consume alcoholic beverages.
The reason the Jews supported Arabs, even with all of this discrimination, was that the situation in Christendom was substantially worse. When Europe and the Americas began to give Jews access to equal rights in citizenship, the Jews began to support those regimes over those led by Arabs who continued to enforce the same historical discriminatory laws against the Jews that they had enforced for a millenium. Jews from Europe came to the Middle East and began to educate Jews, leading to them becoming important in government and administration during the colonial period. It was at this point, when Jews in the Arab World became more prominent and powerful than the Muslim Arabs, that Arab tolerance of them unravelled because the Arabs were unwilling to be true equals with the Jews.
As for paragraphs 2 and 3 in Answer 1, some clarifications should be made. The "peace" it discusses refers to an era of segregation and discrimination and while there was minimal bloodshed, it was not anything close to harmony or equality which is implicit in the word peace. Zionism was much debated among Jews of the Arab World. Some agreed with the European position, believing that Jews would never have a place in the Arab-led Middle East otherwise; some disagreed with Zionism because they believed that Jews had a stake in local Arab Nationalism; and others disagreed with Zionism to avoid offending their Arab countrymen regardless of whether they would have actually wanted such a state or not. However, in no circumstance did Jews actually kill each other or join armies and militias to prevent the establishment of a Jewish State. Jews were, by law, prohibited from the armed forces of all seven belligerent nations and the two Palestinian militant groups in the Arab-Israeli Wars. Finally, there are no Jews left in the West Bank except the Settlers. All of the Palestinian Jews fled the Jordanian-occupied West Bank in 1948 and 1949 to avoid attacks from neighboring Arab villages. Aside from the Settlements, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are effectively Judenrein (a German term meaning "devoid of Jews").

How and why did the Zionists decide on Palestine?
The word Zionist can conjure up many emotions. Likewise the word Palestine. This question and answer will be built up over time and various links will be added to try and keep the answer as balanced as possible.
The use of the name "Palestine" in the English Language only became more common after the Renaissance according to Gudrun Krämer. The name was not used by Muslims in Ottoman times - so for almost 400 years. Most of Christian Europe referred to the area as the Holy Land. It is thought etymologically to be a form of Philistine. Indeed, the Arabic word for Palestine is Philistine.
The name Palestine was officially revived by the British after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and applied to the territory that was placed under British Mandate. Zion is a Hebrew word that means Jerusalem. The Zionist movement started in the 1800s with the aim of having a state for the Jewish people dispersed over 2000 years all over the globe in what became known as the diaspora. Jews were especially being persecuted in Eastern Europe. It seemed logical for them to have a state in their ancestral homeland of Israel. Initially, the Zionist movement encouraged immigration to Palestine to increase the Jewish population there.
The movement gained momentum in the 1900s and for various reasons which are a completely different question, the British were mandated Palestine by the League of Nations. The name Palestine was officially revived by the British at this time.
After WW2 and the major persecution and Genocide of the Jews, Israel unilaterally declared independence in 1948.
Which team won the Israeli Ligat ha'Al in 1978?
Maccabi Tel Aviv won the Israeli Ligat ha'Al in 1978.
Does Zionism represent all Jews?
One of the main problems in answering this is that there are several different definitions of Zionism that are used.
1) Believing that the Jews have the right to a State on the historic Land of Israel.
2) Believing in a Jewish-dominant State where Non-Jews are relegated to a second-Class status.
3) Being part of a world-controlling cabal.
The third, is, of course, simply another form of Anti-Semitism where the cabal is called "Zionists" instead of "Jews" since people immediately recognize the "Jewish cabal" claims to be Anti-Semitic and have a harder time recognizing the same thing with a different label.
The second is a view by those who accept Israel's existence, but want to create a line between Left-Wing Zionism and Right-Wing Zionism. The latter is more akin to the types of nationalism we see in Europe currently.
Even assuming that the first definition is used, not all Jews share the same understanding as to what Israel means. Many of them are Zionists, and live in Israel. Others are anti-Zionists (this group is primarily made of ultra-religious Jews who do not recognize a Jewish right to a State and very liberal secular Jews who see Israel's Jewish Nationalism to be inherently problematic). They are Jewish, and share the same believe as the Israelis, but they don't see the point in having a Jewish state. These Jews cherish their ancestry, but just practice Judaism in other countries. The majority of Jews are pro-Zionism, and a much smaller minority are against Zionism.
Did the Arab states sell the land to Israel?
Prior to World War I, the Middle East was part of the Ottoman empire, so there were no Arab states, apart from Egypt. After World War I, the Middle East came under British and French Mandates, so once again there were no Arab states. In any case, Palestine was not the property of other states to sell.
However, during the first half of the twentieth century, Jewish immigrants did buy up Palestinian farmland from both Turkish landlords and from the Palestinians themselves. When the Palestinians began to realise that these purchases were intended by the Jews as not only transfer of property rights, but also of sovereign rights, many Palestinians unsuccessfully opposed further sales of farmland to the Jews.
What are the causes of the Arab-Israeli genocide?
There is no such thing as "the Arab-Israeli genocide". Nobody with any scholarly talent or acumen has claimed that the events that took place were a genocide of either Israelis or Palestinians.
For a more detailed discussion of why there is no genocide against the Palestinians, please see the Related Question below.
What event caused Egypt Iraq Jordan Lebanon and Syria to invade Israel?
The event that caused that invasion was the joint decision by those nations
to refuse to accept the existence of a Jewish sovereign state in their region.
Their mutual decision was taken immediately following the declaration of Israel
as an independent sovereign state, in May of 1948.
