How do you know if your alternator is out in a 2004 Ford Freestar?
I just went through this with my Windstar - stopped by my favorite Autozone and they did a pretty thorough electrical test, including the alternator and battery.
Most of the auto parts stores offer free testing.
Easiest thing to do is remove the positive connection to your battery if you Freestar stalls....Alternator is no good(just happened to me)
Is there a relay for alternater?
Yes. An alternator is ordinarily paired with a voltage regulator relay that will turn off when the battery is fully charged. However, the alternator will continue supplying power to the rest of the electrical system.
What is the purpose of a regulator?
The purpose of a regulator is to regulate something, to keep a value at a set level.
A thermostat is a temperature regulator. You set it to a certain value and then the thermostat will control the heat source so that the temperature stays at the set value.
Can the Voltage Regulator be replaced on a 2003 Chevy Suburban without getting a new alternator?
No, because it is built into the alternator.
Can you hook up a new regulator to an alternator without actually attaching it to the alternator?
Voltage regulators are often built into the alternators now, this wasn't always the case. Older vehicles had separate voltage regulators mounted on firewalls or the side of the engine compartment, wired in between from the alternator to the battery. The positive lead now goes directly to the battery from the alternator/regulator.
Where the Mitsubishi pajero alternator relay is located?
In the black fuse box situated next to the battery
Likely a inline type (fuseable link wire) look for a section of wire usually near the battery that is discolored or try to stretch the wire they can burn off or break internaly, test this wire at back of alternator with test light and engine and key off, you should have power at the output terminal as long as the battery cables are connected.
How many volts does a 12 volt 100 amp alternator produce?
This will still only produce 12 volts. It will produce 1200 watts. watts is the result of Volts times Amps.
How much would a cable car cost?
Depends on size, model, year and capacity... Could be $10, Could be $9,000,000
More clarification required.
Why has the battery light come on after changing the battery alternator and starter motor?
Is it charging, if not have you checked wiring to alternator.
How do you tension the alternator belt on a Plymouth Breeze?
Loosen the tensioner bolt (small one on the altenator. You will see or feel the belt getting loose if it the right one)
How do you release tension on the belt to replace an alternator on a 1996 Chevy Cavalier?
you need a serpentine belt tool, you can get one at auto zone or any part store. the alternator is on a pully system with a belt tensioner. place the tool in the tensioner and pull down, this releases the tension and the belt should come off. besure that you have the proper routing diagram and the correct belt for your engine size and year.
Also if you don't want to buy s serpentine belt tool, you can use a 15MM wrench.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1998 Cadillac DeVille?
NOTE TO ALL THOSE WITH DEVILLE'S about 96 to 99. There are hundreds of complaints of these alternators failing prematurely and the ridiculous prices charged for a replacement. The cause of failure is because these accessory loaded cars work these high amp alternators hard and as a consequence they run hot, this however does not kill them, what does is that this heat is combined with that of the exhaust manifold and on a hot summer day you can fry eggs on your alternator. Yes you read it right, GM moron engineers put this high amp alternator tight against the manifold - no heat shields -nothing. As you sit at a light on a hot summer day with a lot of accessories going your alternator is just about glowing red under the hood. If your alternator is noisy or you have a strange whine from your northstar you can't identify, very hard to pinpoint, trust me its the bearing in the alternator. You do not need to pay the crooks $1,000.00 cdn for a new alternator, check your local yellow pages for a starter/alternator rebuilder and have them press new bearings into it for about $50.00 cdn. (Note that as the alternator is right at the front of the car in the slipstream as you are moving it is not as likely to fail as often as it will for those who spend considerable time in the city or idling) Now for the bad news, getting it out is a pain the first time, but as a Deville owner you will get to be an old hand at it and soon become an expert. The trick is that it will not come up through the top, it must be dropped out the bottom. First disconnect battery, remove the snap down plastic trim across the top of the rad, undo bolts and lift the fan assembly out, remove serpentine belt from the alt pulley, undo wires from alt. Next (not all years of Deville) look underneath the car directly under the alternator and you will find a small access plate, remove this and drop the alternator out. Like any thing else it looks formidable to tackle because your unsure, but it is actually quite painless, albiet a pain in the butt. An approach to solve this GM idiocy is to maybe get more expensive bearings from a bearing shop.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1990 Buick Regal?
Disconnect the 1990 Regal battery. Remove the alternator belt. Unhook the wiring from the alternator then unbolt it. Remove and replace the alternator then reconnect the wiring, belt, and reconnect the battery to finish the installation.
Hello,
Hopefully this will help. If you push start your car and it starts and keeps running then the battery is the problem. The alternator is providing power once you acutally get your Camry started. As far as the lights flickering if it doesn't stop after you get a new battery then you probably have a open in the ligting system. While the problem is happening (the flickering lights) take a set of jumper cables while car is idling, take the black clamp from the alternator frame to the battery negative post. If the flickering stops, bad ground. If it still continues, take the red jumper and connect to positive terminal on battery, then connect to out-put terminal on alternator. If the flickering stops then you have a bad power wire in the system. If your car has a PCM regulated Alternator then you may have a problem with the PCM.
How do you wire an alternator for a 1985 Chevy Camaro?
This alternator has only a main wire and a 2 wire plug. The bolt on terminal goes to the positive on the battery. The connector has 2 wires a small and a big. The big wire should be red can also go to a 12v source, the easy way is to attach it to the bolt on terminal, and the last wire known as the field wire, most of the time white or green in color must go to an ignition power. Only power when the key is on, this is very important, if you hook it up to battery power the alternator will stay activated and put a draw on your battery, You'll go out in the morning and the battery will be dead.
Why does your 04 Toyota road runner keep blowing alternators?
Spike in electrical system look for loose ground wire or loose connection that is building excessive resistance (heat)
Why won't the battery charge after installing a new alternator?
A couple of things come to mind on this problem.
First, just because you purchased a new alternator does not guarantee that it will work properly. I have purchased several in my lifetime that I've had to take back to the parts house and have them checked...only to have them give me another because their "new or rebuilt" alternator was faulty. Most auto parts stores have the capability of checking the alternator (always a good idea to have them do before walking out the door with the "new" alternator...will save you a trip and much frustration).
Secondly, your battery may have a partially shorted cell. Your car battery is actually comprised of 6 cells, each producing approximately 2 volts. When a battery ages, some of the material on the lead plates will sluff off of the plates and settle in the bottom of the battery. If this material builds up to the point where it touches the cell plates, it will short out those plates. Sometimes it's just enough to prevent the battery from coming to a full charge (but not enough to give indications of a bad battery when checking unloaded voltage.) Take your battery to an auto parts place and they will check it for free for this condition.
The cause for your check engine light can be determined with an ODB-II scanner. This scanner plugs into a special plug underneath your stearing column. It then collects error information from your Astro's computer. It will also allow you to clear your Check Engine light. Many auto parts stores have tool rental/loaner programs. The one I use simply has you pay the full amount for the scanner and then you can bring it back at anytime for a full refund. By the way, ODB-II scanners are generic to all vehicles sold in the US (after 1997...not absolutely sure on the date). Anyway, if you rent the tool, it would be a good time to check all of your vehicles...often they will have error codes that will give indication of a pending problem..could save you a hassle by taking care of the problem before a component completely fails).
AnswerCheck the thick wire that runs from the Altenator to the Starter Motor. It should then travel from the Starter back the the +ve Battery Terminal. This is the flow for the Altenator to charge the battery. Disconnect the cable at the Starter to isolate its output charge from the Altenator. Connect a Voltmeter from the wire to earth and you have the Altenator output. The battery needs 13.6 to about 14.4 to sustain itself given the heavy load from the Altenator. Although the car battery is 12v it wont sustain itself against load if it isn't charged at 13.6v.You may have a current drain. You need to trace this through each system.
To do this reconnect the alternator & put your volt meter in series with the battery +ve terminal while on amps mode( remove the lead and insert your multimeter leads to the post and lead end. You should have .03 amps leakage. If the reading is higher start taking your fuses out one by one until the reading goes down to this level. You have now discovered in which circuit you have the current drain(a device left on or pulling power before source, short circuit). A common one is the boot interior light switch being left on. Because you don't hide in the boot if it stays on it kills the battery, but goes indetected because you don't see it Worthwhile doing this before doing anything else. Push the switch that the boot causes to put the light out to see if it goes out.
Hope this helps

How to change alternator on BMW 525 tds?
Remove the T-cover on top of the engine - 4 socket-head screws. Slacken the fan belt - insert a large screwdriver as a lever. Remove the tensioning jockey wheel (13mm socket) to give clearance. Disconnect the battery. Undo the electrical connections to the alternator. Undo the top & bottom bolts on the alternator - 13mm socket + 2" extension. The alternator will squeeze between the radiator and the top rad hose by pushing on the rad hose to make the clearance. A note on how/where to refit the fan belt - it goes straight across at the top and bottom, and in & out at the sides.
How do you find voltage regulator on 94 dodge 1500 pickup look like?
The voltage regulator is on the alternator.
It is on the rear, within the alternator case.
Why do you need to use alternative fuels?
All the gasolene in the world will be used up in sixty years and reguler gas hurts the atmosphere so now there is a large hole above antarctica.
Check the battery with a vom meter while the engine is running. It should read about 14.5 volts and if so the alternator is working, than have the battery checked Now if the meter does not read 14.5 volts, have the battery, and the alternator checked. If they both check out okay, the problem is in the battery or the alternator circuit on the vehicle.
How can you know if your alternator is bad?
Check the voltage output at the battery posts with a multimeter set to DC voltage in the 20 volt range engine idling. You should get from 13.5 to 16 volts. Any more or less and the alternator is bad.
What is the procedure for checking alternator output current?
Use a digital volt meter set to the 20 volt DC scale. A good alternator will output 13.5 to 15.5 volts.
