Why does my Battery still drain on 2000 park ave after replacing battery and alternator?

You have a drain to ground which is unfused.....trace the (red) + battery cable from battery to where it crosses over the steel hydraulic lines....there are two held in place with a rubber insulated clamp.....the lines are clamped but the cable is not....therein lies the problem....abraided insulation on + cable making a connection to ground thur steel power hydraulic lines.....clean cable throughly....inspect with mirror and flashlight...should be able to feel place on underside of cable where it crosses lines. Tape up cable and slip a slit rubber hose over cable for added insulation.... Good Luck, C.E. Cecil

Alternator is good battery is new but keeps losing charge?

It sounds like you have a circuit staying hot all the time, like a bad switch or even a radio. Also might have a defective new alternator or battery or both. Start with the most obvious places first. Hope this helps

How do you know if your alternator is bad on your 97 Plymouth voyager?

When the battery light stays on or flickers. If you have a voltmeter, you can check voltage at the battery. With car off, should read 12 volts. Running, it should be 13 or 14 volts, unless there's a problem with wiring between the alternator and battery. You can check voltage between big wire, usually red, from back of alternator and frame while running, but watch out for belt, alternator fan blades, other moving parts.

What would cause the battery light to flash with a new battery and alternator that checks good on a 98 SL2?

Check your owners manual first for info. If the battery and what looks like a thermometer flash together there are 2 possible reasons. The first is that your coolant is low. The second is that the PCM has found a discrepency between two temperature sensors. The IAT (intake air temperature) and the ECTS (coolant temperature sensor).

      • Check your belt tensioner, I've heard that it is common that they go out in saturns...it will affect both your alternator and your water pump (the reason for your dummy lights going on) same thing happened to me...the part is around $100, but needs to be put in by a mechanic most likely.
      • Something I once found was that there was a short in the trunk lighting, so it wouldn't shut off, and drained the battery.

Your battery light does not flash It is your low coolant light Fill up coolant and you will be fine

actually the belt tensioner went on my car and i replaced it myself in an hr or so. i just had to take off the pass tire to get at it.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1998 VW Passat?

Not sure if it is exactly the same but generally speaking this may help. You can also look easily online for hands on instructions. FIRST as always disconnect the negative on your battery. On my 90 VW Passat there are a total of 4 bolts that hold the alternator in place. Two at the top left which are associated with the slotted metal bar and two at the bottom (right and left) which allow the alternator to pivot back and forth along the slotted bar. Loosen the bottom two bolts then slowly the top bolt, do not remove any yet. Now if necessary slowly rotate/pivot the alternator loose. Now remove belt then all three bolts, then all small connectors on back of alternator as well (usually 3, label them if neccesary). Note you will need some long box mm wrench's to reach the bottom bolts. Keep all bolts and nuts and first inspect new alternator to make sure the old and new are the same. To replace follow the steps in reverse, ensuring little slack in tension.

Is there a voltage regulator in a 1975 cadillac sedan deville The battery is new but won't charge The alternator is in good condition and looks like new Could it be a bad alternator?

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator. If you have used your vehicle to jump start another vehicle, even if it is the first time your auto has been started since the alternator was replace you risk blowing the new alternator. Always make sure that when connecting jumper cables that the red is connected to the positive of both autos and the black is connected to any metallic ground on the engine NOT the negative of the your battery. When the dead engine starts and the alternator fields are flashed in the dead car it causes a voltage spike that will eventually blow a good alternator. You might get by with it many times, but the law of averages will catch up with. Not IF but WHEN! Once you start you auto use a voltage tester and touch the battery cable ends, not the battery posts. You should get a reading of 13 volts or more. If not either the battery is defective or there is a short somewhere else. If you do not have a voltage tester just start the engine and disconnect one lead from the battery. If the engine dies the alternator is bad. A good battery should read no less than 10.89volts when fully discharged. If it reads less the battery is defective. A fully charged good battery should read 12.5 volts or slightly more.

If the belt is loose around the alternator will it cause the alternator not to work?

It depends on the type and year of vehicle. Most of the newer vehicles use serpentine belts that are kept tight with a self-tensioning pulley. If it's an older vehicle, the alternator tension needs to be adjusted to keep it tight. Send me an e-mail with specific information about the year/type of vehicle and I'll see if I can figure it out with you. a_d_kirkwood@excite.com The car is a 2003 ford escort zx2.

How do you put an alternator belt on a 1992 Geo Storm?

your belt tensioner is built in on the mounting bracket off the engine. you will only find two bolts that hold on the alternator to the engine, one is a pivot hinge, a long bolt that if loosened will allow the alternator to move away or closer to the engine, (tension). the other is on a sliding bracket on the front of the alternator that works with the pivot bolt. i can't remember whether its a 14 or 12 mm bolt. either way, just loosen both of the bolts, hammer or pry the alternator towards the engine, slip on the belt. make sure the belt fits into the grooves properly, then pry the alternator away from the engine. make sure the belt is extremely tight. i just replaced mine and i didn't pry hard enough and it slipped off halfway to a friends house, (not fun). anywas it's best to have someone pry the alternator and you tighten the bolts. in order to replace the alternator belt you have to remove the ac and power steering pump belt. both the ac compressor and the power steering pump work the same way as the alternator. loosen them bolts and hammer or pry them towards the engine to slip it off. good luck. i know i needed it. your belt tensioner is built in on the mounting bracket off the engine. you will only find two bolts that hold on the alternator to the engine, one is a pivot hinge, a long bolt that if loosened will allow the alternator to move away or closer to the engine, (tension). the other is on a sliding bracket on the front of the alternator that works with the pivot bolt. i can't remember whether its a 14 or 12 mm bolt. either way, just loosen both of the bolts, hammer or pry the alternator towards the engine, slip on the belt. make sure the belt fits into the grooves properly, then pry the alternator away from the engine. make sure the belt is extremely tight. i just replaced mine and i didn't pry hard enough and it slipped off halfway to a friends house, (not fun). anywas it's best to have someone pry the alternator and you tighten the bolts. in order to replace the alternator belt you have to remove the ac and power steering pump belt. both the ac compressor and the power steering pump work the same way as the alternator. loosen them bolts and hammer or pry them towards the engine to slip it off. good luck. i know i needed it.

What happens when you put a new starter alternator spark plugs and battery in and the car just clicks and the stereo lights and everything still work?

Check where your battery cables mount to the starter & engine. It sounds like you have a dirty/corroded connection.... Either that, or your motor is tied up.

How difficult is it to replace an alternator on a 1994 Oldsmobile 98?

Not that difficult - everything is on the top of the engine. Take the serpentine belt off first, disconnect the wires and attach them to the new alternator in order. Then take the bolts out (they are obvious) and change the alternator - put the belt back on - that's usually the hardest part and your done.

Why would battery go dead in an 1988 Mazda 323 but the alternator is good?

Could be an accessory that has been left on unnoticed i.e. glove box light trunk light etc. Could be an excessive parasytic load Could be a bad voltage regulator not opening when vehicle is shut down Could just be that the battery is worn out and cannot hold a charge

Ford F-250 Super Duty How do I replace the alternator?

On the 7.3 Litre Turbo Diesel (and for any engine) with the serpentine belt system, always remove the belt by removing the tension from the belt. Not doing so will probably result in one or both things happening. First you may be seriously injured (or worse) when the belt comes off and second, you will damage the exterior components of the engine.

Safety first and always!
