Alternators

remove the alternator, remove mounting bolts for steering pump and position aside, remove upper engine mount bolt/nut, support engine with sling, remove the upper engine mount bracket, then finally accessory bracket. whole job with proper tools and equipment takes approx. 5 hours to do. I would not attempt to do this as a driveway repair.

voltage regulator is internal part of alternator

Remove the passenger front wheel. You will have to take off 3 bolts that hold the passenger axle to the sub frame, slide the axel out. Remove the two bolts that mount the alternator and get the belt loose. Now wrestle with that sucker until you can fit it between the axel and the exhaust, its a real pain.

Make sure all wiring is secure Check with a voltmeter - a fully charged battery shoukld read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running With engine running voltage should read approx. 13.8-14.2 volts

I don't know how to repair it but in order to replace it you would have to take your inkate manifold off to take it out and the tire guard to get to the bolts and when you lossen the alternator you have to play around with it to get it through the top... it seems hard but it really isn't. I have a 99 dodge avenger with a 2.5 in it and i had to change mine like 2 times and wiat till you c what the price of it. I hope that answered ur question if it didn't sorry.

first you must loosen a 12mm bolt behind the pulley of the ac compressor, its a little tough to get to, but you can get it with an extended wrench, then loosen up the ac compressor bolt, pry it forward if it doesnt do it automatically, take your timing belt off, then go to your alternator bolt unerneath the alternator, loosen it rock it forward and pull off your belt, obviously reverse everything you just did to put it back together P.S. you can pretty much rebuild the geo storm engine with a 12mm wrench, lol

FIRST U Disconnect the NEGATIVE BATTERY Cable then U mark the wires if U have never done one-(with masking tape) the UNbolt the Old Alternator & install the NEW one & make SURE the BELT IS NOT 2 Tight(bearing failure) or 2 loose--- make sure the Battery is Charged UP so as NOT 2 BURN UP the NEW Alternator BY making the ALTERNATOR try & charge a DEAD Battery.

What kind of car? On an older car you just loosen the alternator and pull it until the belt is tight and then tighten the bolts back. On newer cars, there is a tensioner that pulls the slack out of the belt.

There are two bolts on the bottom of the alternator that you can't see but you can feel them, these are the pivot bolts, remove them. Then remove the adjustment bolt on top of the alternator. Remove wiring from back of alternator. Reverse instructions for install.

The voltage regulator is defective. It may be internal or external to the alternator. Any auto parts store can provide this information. Have them check the alternator for output.

This isn't much help, but mine has been on for about 9 yrs now. Never had the slightest problem with it. As a matter of fact I have had to take my car to a different mechanic on occasion, I don't mention the light to see how honest they are. Out of all these years only 1 time did someone try to tell me i needed something fixed because of it. My mechanic and I have come to the conclusion that it has something to do with the coating being cracked on some wiring. Nothing critical. It started after someone used my car to jump theirs off and put both cables on the battery and not the frame or block.

Take off the belt. If its a serpantine belt,you'll have to loosen it using a tentioner, if its a two part belt, just start removing your bolts that hold the alternator in place. If your not use to working on vehicles, tag your bolts with tape in order to remember what slots they go in. Good luck with your project.

how do you change an alternator on a 2003 chevrolet suburban?

Once the car is started if the alternator is working it will charge the battery, but the battery may not take the charge or may not hold it. Batteries don't last forever. There should be a sticker on the side of the battery or the top with a letter/number like A/7 which stand for January or 07. That will let you know how old the battery is. Most parts stores will check the battery for free to see if it will hold a charge.

If you were to push start a car with a completely dead battery (where the lights have been left on for two days), it won't start. With a boost though, it should start, if the alternator is good. This is because the alternator does not have magnets in it to create the magnetic field (like a generator) it needs to start charging. Normally a battery won't be completely dead, just dead enough to not start the car, but the little bit of power left in the battery is enough to give the alternator the field it needs to start charging. Normally it is always better to boost a battery than push start a car. When boosting a dead battery, the cables should be clamped on for 5 minutes with the boosting vehicle running before trying to start the dead one. This is to allow the dead battery to get partially charged to help with starting the vehicle. Before trying to start the vehicle being boosted, turn off the boosting vehicle (to avoid frying its computer), but leave the cables on, then start the dead one. Once it starts, remove the cables, and let it run (at least 15 minutes in the summer, 30 minutes in the winter) to charge the battery. Double that time if the heater or headlights are on. The reason the alternator was able to start charging was because it drew power from the boosting vehicle battery to create the field it needed even if the battery was completely dead.

If this is a persistent problem, it could be the battery, check the terminals to ensure a good connection. If they are good, have the battery load tested, this will tell you if you need a new one. Normally a battery is good for 5 years, less if it has been run dead too many times.

It is not so much the amps ,but the voltage being put out . try the old stand by and start the jeep and pull the negative feed off the battery,if it dies bad alt. If you want to know how well it is working if jeep stays running; take a voltmeter and check what you have coming off the wires . It should be charging the batteries at about 13.6 or so.

Now if you are looking to put on lights and bells and whistles ;you need to upgrade to a bigger output alt.The factory one will not hold up to fog lights, dommers, cb,air compressor,you get the idea.

How to remove and change an alternator in 2004 Ion

It means the alternator cannot handle running the vehicle alone. This is not a smart thing to do. First you put undue stress on your alternator, heating it up more trying to keep up with your car electrical requirements, and second disconnecting your battery while a vehicle is running is not recommended anymore as it damages sensitive electronic components. Take your vehicle to be checked by a professional before you damage it!

Most likely the alternator, run a volt meter on the battery while the engine is running. Should have 14.5 volts. Less than 13, replace the alt.

the rotor in your alternator causes north and south mag. poles, and the wires in the stator pick up the cutting of the mag. flux and this causes a voltage in the stator leads.
