How do you change the alternator on a 2000 Lincoln LS V6?

The Alternator is located on the bottom half of the engine next to the passenger side front wheelwell. Alternator is easy to locate if car is on lift or ramps. Alternator will have 3 bolts that must be removed. Also you will need to loosen the belt by using a rachet and putting the head in the belt tensioner and rotating. Belt tensioner is located in the front of the engine. You will need to remove the induction system (black plastic tube that connects your intake manifold to air box). After the bolts have been removed you should be able to lower the alternator through the bottom. Reverse the steps to install new alternator. Stock alternator is 110amps, if you have a stereo system or anything electrical hooked up you may want to go with 130amp aftermarket alternator.

How much should it cost to remove and replace alternator drive belt?

just the belt, should never cost more than 100 dollars. It is only a 10 or 20 dollar belt and the work to install it at most should take 30 minutes.

What are symptoms of an alternator going bad?

You may see the headlights and dash lights flicker at an idle. You may hear unusual noises coming from the alternator when the engine is running.

Alternator replaced now air conditioner won't work?

A/C Won't Work After Alternator Replacement

Either this is an unusual coincidence, OR the person changing the alternator inadvertently disconnected some of the A/C wiring [like a harness connector], OR damaged one the wires in the A/C circuit.

The A/C compressor has a wire to supply current to it to engage the A/C clutch, and if that wire is disconnected, cut or broken, then the A/C clutch cannot engage.

Replace the alternator on a 2006 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition?

Do yourself a favor. When buying a New Alternator have them check it before taking it home? I had a bad incident that I ended up with, 3 bad alternators in one day, 3 different stores. Last store check it before I took it home and everything was good. I ended up changing it 3 times. Make sure they also change the pulley.

Alternator

Removal & Installation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner away from the drive belt and remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley.

3. Detach the electrical harness connectors at the alternator assembly.

4. Disconnect the positive battery cable and remove the nut and washer.

5. Remove 2 front alternator bolts.

6. Remove the rear alternator support bracket retaining bolts and the support bracket.

7. Remove the alternator from the vehicle.

To install:

8. Place the alternator in position and loosely install 2 front alternator retaining bolts.

10. Tighten 2 front alternator retaining bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).

11. Connect 2 electrical hardness connectors to the alternator assembly.

12. Connect the positive battery cable and install the nut and washer. Tighten the nut to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

13. Rotate the drive belt tensioner away from the drive belt and install the drive belt on the alternator pulley.

14. Connect the negative battery cable.

15. Start the engine and check for proper charging system operation.

86 Lincoln mark Vii alternator not charging?

Well it could be the external regulator on the right side of the engine compartment or a bad alternator . First I would have the battery checked to verify the battery is good but only after fully charging it , then try replacing the regulator first because its cheapest and if the alternator is in fact bad it should be replaced with the alternator anyway. If the regulator doesn't help then It's probably safe to assume it would be the alternator. I've had a loose plug on the alternator also that would keep it from charging, you might wanna check that and all your connections first.
Hope this helps.

How much voltage will an alternator have to have before it will give 13 volts or more?

I'm not sure I understand your question. An alternator will have to produce 13 volts to charge a battery at 13 volts. Most alternators are able to produce 14+ volts but the range is 13.5 to about 15.5 volts.

Does a bad alternator make your car shake when idling?

It could if the battery was so weak as to not be providing enough voltage to run the engine. But if that were the case you could not rev the engine without it missing badly. Drive to your nearest auto parts store and they will be happy to check your charging system free of charge.

What is a pully used for?

A pully is used to lift heavy things you normally would have difficulty lifting with your bare hands.

Something is draining the battery. Check all lights. Glove box, trunk, etc. Also check the power window switch.

The alternator is good but it won't charge the battery?

I had the same problem. Try replace the cable/wires that lead from under the car to the positive and negative posts to the battery. This is a common problem for this car. Maybe defective wires were used when the cars were originally manufactured.

What would the labor cost be to replace an alternator belt and the PS belt on a Honda Prelude?

It depends what they charge per hour.It should not take longer than 60 min(even then I am giving a little extra time on that guess)Barring any unforeseen problems of course.

How do you wire a Dodge alternator?

On a dodge alternator the two small wires go to the voltage regulator . It doesn't matter which wire goes where, but the red or blue wire needs 12 volts when the key is on. The green wire goes directly to the regulator from the alternator. The large wire goes to the battery and it is important that you don't undersize this wire. The other wire is a ground wire and can be grounded to the block or not used as the case is grounded by the bolts that hold it on.

If the battery light has been coming on and off on a 1999 Ford Expedition does it need a new alternator or just a new serpentine belt?

I just had to replace my alternator and the battery light was coming on when I had slow engine speed (under 1000RPM)...It gave me little warning and completely failed after 20 miles, then the battery went dead and , of course, the engine stopped...

Replace the Alternator before you get stranded as what happened to myself...

How do you check if the alternator is working?

Get yourself a mulitmeter, start the car then attach the meter to the battery. If the alternator is working then the meter should say that there is 13.2 to 14.8 Volts. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you remove a battery cable while the engine is running. This could cause you to DESTROY THE COMPUTOR due to a voltage spike!

What would make your smoke detectors go off only at night in your new home if the batteries are new?

In some cases, new homes have a lot of dust in the air from construction (especially sanding). This should settle relatively fast. Alternatively, there could be a problem with the detectors themselves. You may wish to sweep the surfaces of the detector with a vacuum and then wipe them down with a lightly damp cloth. If problems persist, contact the manufacturer or, if the home is new, your contractor. Good luck,

How can you tell when an alternator is going bad?

Your alternator will need to put out about 13.5 volts to charge your battry. It will need to over come the voltage of the battery to charge it. Check it with a meter set to DC volts. It may be able to keep up with little draw on it, but not with heater blower and lights on. So check with things on and off while the car is running. If the volts keep up to about 13.5 than it is probably ok. Some parts stores will check your battery and alternator for free.

If the battery and the starter and the alternator test good why is the power dying?

Either the alternator/regulator has situation dependant problems such as opens with heat or vibrational malfunctions or there is a problem with an internal charging control in the engine computer

How do you know if your alternator is out in a 2004 Ford Freestar?

I just went through this with my Windstar - stopped by my favorite Autozone and they did a pretty thorough electrical test, including the alternator and battery.

Most of the auto parts stores offer free testing.

Easiest thing to do is remove the positive connection to your battery if you Freestar stalls....Alternator is no good(just happened to me)
